Ok, you already floored me early this morning with the Memory Moog video... now the Jupiter 8. I knew them both already of course but... they still amaze me.
This is another great video! Thanks for talking about your synthesizers. I enjoy the stories about each synthesizer. Perhaps you should do a live interactive video, so your subscribers could ask questions while you discuss your synthesizers. Just a thought. I always enjoy Sonic Talk on Sonic State. Those guys are great. I look forward to your future videos. Take care and stay warm. :) Sam.
Thank you, Sam, yes, I plan on doing "live" youtube shows, I just need to figure out how to set it up. As a Generation Xer, I'm not as quick as I should be on the new technologies. Thankfully I hired three very good consultants to help me out, my three kids ;-D who are showing how to do social media ;) I might even get a Twitter lol Agree on SonicState, those guys are indeed great peeps providing superb content.
I'm a HUGE fan of JP8 strings, pads and synth brass too. I first gained access to them back in 1990, when I purchased the SN-U110-09 Guitar & Keyboards card for my Roland U-110 PCM rackmount unit, which is an underrated module and sells for peanuts nowadays, even though it offers the best sounds of the S5(5)0 library, but that's another story. Some of those JP patches on the U-110 were even dual ones that could be detuned. More recently, my JP-8080 did a great job at producing those sounds too. I now use a JP50, which has superb Jupiter patches galore among the presets.
Your loyal fan-base sure enjoys seeing a more intimate view into the life of Synthmania lately. Very soon, we are due for a Synthmania original composition. A slow and reflective version.
I may suffer a few slings and arrows for saying so, but I thought the sound of the sampled JP strings held up pretty well compared to the original patch played on the Jupiter.
That last Jupiter sound preset doesn't sound like Madonna, but it does have an extremely tight sound. It almost sounds like a gated effect is on it because the sample is so quick and tight.
You bought that Jupiter at the right time! Instead of buying expensive Virtual Analogs during that particular craze in the mid-late nineties, I should have been saving up for one of these (or at least a Rev 2 Prophet 5!) Good for you though for following your passion and curiosity, and seeking one out years after first hearing it as a sample on your W-30. :)
ok... ok...I want a jp8 it's beautiful. I've been in denial. and as for getting cold, I hold my ensoniq eps because Lord knows you can practically cook a turkey on that thing. lol. thank you for showing us Paolo how your interest began for the jp8 ( and I'm assuming, other earlier Synths) . enjoy your evening friend.
Mmm... fried turkey... yum -haha You're very welcome, one day I'll tell the story of how it all began for me, believe or not I was actually six years old when I started developing a love for music and synth, it's one of my first memories and I'll do a video about it on day - have a good one too
SynthMania you can call me Shane, if you'd like Paolo. yes,I would love to hear how your fascination came to be with Synths. If I were to impart a request, it would be a 101 on early 80s italo and mixing techniques. between 79-84. more of a verbal walkthrough on what"made" it sound the way it did and what it usually consisted of. I have garnered info from your italo videos but the more would be merrier. Italo is my obsession especially those years.have a good day buddy ; )
Have you tried out the JP-08 boutique? I wondered as a JP-8 owner, how it compares? I used to have a JP-6. I bought it because I thought it would sound like a JP-8. It did not. My Juno 60 came closer to the JP-8 in many sounds. I think it was the filter. Since the boutique JP-08 only has four voices, I have decided to stick to software. The Juno 106 boutique (JU-06) only has four voices as well. I always preferred the sound of my 60 to the 106 anyway. The software Junos get really close anyway. I have yet to hear a software Jupiter get even close, even Diva. Thanks for the walk down memory lane for the old synth guys.
I tried the boutique and I liked what I heard, although it was just a short tryout at the Guitar Center. I plan to get one and do a comparison / demo video
i love your videos so cool i really like 80s synthesizers sounds can software make 80s sound just as good as 80s synthesizer using small midi key bored?
Thank you! - yes, today's plugins are very good, you can get fairly close to the original gear, especially in a dense mix. But really, gear doesn't really matter too much, and I usually give the example of Trio's "Da, Da, Da", a number one hit - keyboard used, Casio VL-1. Kids today make hits on a laptop.
First of all, sir, I must say that I have seriously been digging your videos - I can't believe there are so many of them, and they're awesome! I've just been getting into electronic music over the last maybe 10 years and the things you share about and through your machines are from the heart rather than trying to sell something - so good! One thing I have to ask might sound like a weird question though - you have some really vintage gear but all of it looks pretty much like it just came out of the box. How do you keep these so clean? (Like I say - forgive me if it's a weird question.) Rock on!
The staccato heaven patch from D-50 is just a sample in W-30, the original is better because i can hear difference in attack time and in depth quality of the sample in comparison with the original.
That patch sounded SO much better on an actual Jupiter 8 it's not funny. The sampled version was OK I guess but it just lacks the richness of the actual Jupiter 8. Such a shame it's so hard to sample things like that and have it sound the way it should. I suppose that's one of the reasons I like VSTs so much. The mimic the hardware better than simple wave table devices like the W-30.
What a nice warm sounding synth, the Jupiter 8! Simply beautiful
I'm really digging these 'blast from the past' videos. Please keep making them!
Thank you for taking time out of your day to express your love for Synths!
Wow that mellow string pad on the JP8!!! heavenly!
It's nice to hear the synths plumbed straight into the PC audio input as opposed to mic-ing speakers. much appreciated.
I love how you are making yourself more prominent in your videos now! I like the peak behind the curtains.
Thank you very much
I agree, you're a great vlogger
Wow! those strings are euphoric!!
You make me cry! In a good way.
Ok, you already floored me early this morning with the Memory Moog video... now the Jupiter 8. I knew them both already of course but... they still amaze me.
Always enjoy your videos Paolo. Take care.
Thanks, you too!
This made me sleepy but not in a bad way, it's very relaxing
Love the new videos. Thank you!
Really enjoy your videos.
So iconic and beautiful sound..
Thanks for vid
Great demo, these are awesome videos.
Bravo Paolo! Video sempre molto belli ed interessanti!
Andrea, grazie!
Love my W-30 and S-330! Love those 12-bit samples.

enjoying your new style videos mate. cheers!
Che bel video. Adoro il Jupiter 8. Il re dei sintetizzatori
Twin peaks and Chill 😊

I like the oscillation that appears around 8:02.
I ♥️ your JP8 Paolo!!! 😳😳😳
superbe ! merci !
Je vous en prie!

it did tbh
good Sound

9:43 this reminds me of Van Halen - Jump!
Yes, similar, but the keyboard Van Halen used was a similar polysynth model, called Oberheim OB-Xa :)

tks.. like u mood. And i like jupiter 8 too :=
nice
Did Steve Winwood use a Jupiter 8 in the 80s? It sure sounds like it!
Can I live there? 😊
4:00 the beginning of the Myst soundtrack!!

3 : 03 Those pads sounds likes the start of Sade - make some room ( b side ) +SynthMania

now i wanna record music again :D

Thank you - I use electronic wipes and/or disinfecting wipes
Great sample disk... any way of getting these samples, as I cannot find them online?
Have a link to a recording of that HEAVEN preset song from your band?
Yes... JP8 power supply will heat up the entire room!
one of nick Rhoded famous keyboards.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Trying to do star trek next generation sh-30 sampler sounds
Ur jp8 could use new coldrunning powersupply for lonlivety
Can these Roland format samples be ported into kontakt ? If anyone knows how ?
The staccato heaven patch from D-50 is just a sample in W-30, the original is better because i can hear difference in attack time and in depth quality of the sample in comparison with the original.
Any chance you could share the disk image for the W-30? Thank you :)
where are you ?
share that floppy disk, it would be nice
which factory preset is for the metal strings in the Jupiter?
You probably just caused the price of a Roland W-30 to go up a couple hundred dollars on Ebay.. lol
Uh oh, I hope not!! :D
That patch sounded SO much better on an actual Jupiter 8 it's not funny. The sampled version was OK I guess but it just lacks the richness of the actual Jupiter 8. Paolo ciao ma se dovessi decidere tra Jupiter 8, OBXa e prophet 5 (rev3) quale è il tuo preferito?
What's a reasonably priced polysynth, preferably analog, preferably vintage? I've been looking at the JX-8P
Where is that?
I'm guessing Italy
chieftp, he sounds Midwest. I think Michigan are elsewhere.
Hi. Did I hear some Audio bleeding through the VCA after you played and Key-Off?
Hi, yes, there's a tiny bit of bleeding , only noticeable when not playing notes, but still I need to get it taken care of -
yes, mine doesn't have this, so I think you should do that somewhere in the near future. The JP-8 generally has a really low noise-floor.
Yep, it only developed this problem a few months ago
Is the Jupiter 8 analog or FM? The controls at the top imply analog but the sound says to me at least FM hybridization.
Tiffany Gabriel Jupiter is analogue, Dco digital controlled oscillator, Vcf and Vca. Nothing like FM.
Richie Sheath Nope, the JP8 features 2 VCOs per voice, 16 in total. That's the reason they have a tune button.
8:00 Those Jupiter pads remind me a lot of pads in th-cam.com/video/W1i1OtOP8PM/w-d-xo.html
Just saying... you should really do a cover of Shadilay by P.E.P.E....
Wow you have some very desirable synth in your man cave ! I can feel a bit GAS coming on lol
You probably just caused the price of a Roland W-30 go up a couple hundred dollars on Ebay.. lol
