think the 12th gen i7 really makes the difference if you already have a high refresh rate monitor 4770k is still very capable for gaming but if you need more than that then definitely upgrade
The thing is, the i7 12700k has more headroom for GPU upgrades without high bottlenecks (compared to the 4770) So if he used a different GPU it'd probably make a difference

And it obviously does because, in a lot of games, the GPU was below 90% usage even in 4K. I don't care for 1080p, I haven't played in 1080p since 2016. I have a 4k 144hz monitor and need to see if I should upgrade my CPU or if I also need a GPU.
Basically the 4770K gets rekt in massive open world games like Cyberpunk 2077 or strategy games. For the rest it's still a good gaming chip considering the age.

8 years and 2x to 3x times faster, years ago I've thought that after 7 years most consumers cpus would be around 5 or 10 times faster. At the end I'm thankful to Amd for pressuring Intel to increase its core count above 4c.

That 4770k could really benefit from some 2133+ Memory along with a nice OC. Kinda crazy that in CP while walking the performance was the same! I still run a 4790k @ 4.8 / 5700xt /1440p and I still don't see myself upgrading for another Year or two. Best PC part I ever bought was this 4790k! Especially at high resolutions- you can even pair it with a 4090 at 4k with little to no bottlenecking, which sounds ridiculous but the CPU is much less important with those higher resolutions! There's videos on YT that talk about it if you're curious.
it’s because at higher resolutions (1440p+) cyberpunk is almost entirely gpu bound. so it depends on what resolution you play. there is absolutely a different in the cpus. much much faster with the newer ones. i’d upgrade this christmas if i were you cuz my old build (ryzen 7 3700x + radeon rx 5700 xt + 32 gb ram, liquid cooled) is getting INCREDIBLY outdated for new games. please. invest now while prices are low before you regret it. buy a 4000 series with an intel i7-13700K/F

I have a 2070 super and really hoped that upgrading from 4770k to something newer would help, but it's obvious to me that it won't. I guess I'll have to wait for a couple of years until (reasonably priced) graphics cards will be bottlenecked by my CPU in 4K.

Great CPU when it's GPU bound games, in Esport games i7-4770k really sucks now. My i7-4770k overclocked and get same one core benchmark as r5-1600x back in the day and I am on r5-5600x now and is not enough for me, need something like r7-7800x3d or at last r7-5800x3d

This benchmark is a trick, it is a lie. For example, on cyberpunk, I have better results with an i7 4770k + a GTX1070 than this benchmark with an i7 4770k + RTX3080!
bro, in gaming... CPU has nothing to do with resolution, its about the calculating positions, collisions and math like that... So it's pointless to test that out, this is a pretty unfair comparison

actually the 3080 is bottlenecking the 12700, and the 4770 was bottlenecking the 3080.
If you think the 3080 was bottlenecked in all the games, you need to understand how to read the metrics.
