Hey the Vulcan death grip is real... You need to bend your thumb inwards some, but you can easily get people to drop to the ground and freeze in pain to the point they would probably eat dog $hit if you told them too. Once you release the grip the pain instantly goes away, but while doing it, its excruciating pain since there are a bunch of nerves there that you're mashing/pinching. If Vulcans had significantly stronger hands (and Vulcans were portrayed as extra strong compared to humans), it might actually work making people faint from the pain.

I’ve done martial arts for over 15 years and am a 2nd degree black belt. It’s important to remember especially when a weapon is in play wether it’s a knife gun stick whatever that u can and will die if u mess up. The saying in a knife fight is “one goes to the hospital the other goes to the morgue” same thing in a gunfight you will probably get hit at best it’s a 50/50 depending on ur training. The best advice I can give to people actively looking for defense against an armed attacker is if they want ur wallet just play along, ur debit card isn’t worth ur life. If they r trying to take u somewhere or hurt you raise your hands and SLOWLY try to close the gap between you and the attacker. Distance is not your friend if u r fighting against a gun while unarmed. Try to talk to them, act like you are complying until you are within arm range of the attacker. Once ur there fight like hell, rip claw punch kick it doesn’t matter your life is on the line and there r no rules. That being said as always if there’s an opportunity to run away safely take it. It’s not worth the risk otherwise. I could go super in depth but it’s not worth it on the comment section on a TH-cam video. Get training, carry concealed and please for the love of god don’t fall for this pathetic excuse for self defense

The guy in the video of which i saw like 10. clips and 2 full videos said the exact same thing
"if you attempt this be advised its a last resort and should only be done if you are about to be dead anyhow"
You can find real examples of disarms working in real life "Homeowner Turns the Tables on Intruder"
if you train disarms to be faster that scenario of last resort becomes more valuable to you, if you go for a grab before he pulls the trigger is basically his reaction speed(0,15-0,3s) x your hand movement and gun alignment you can be really fast and surprise him, tough its a risk that gets people killed more often then not.
if they attempt this without it being a last resort you are dumb yes.

    • @TheMonkeystick

I'm with ya. Violent criminals in rust belt cities come in 2 flavors: organized/professional, and desperate/opportunistic. The former know better and if you're being robbed by them you're in deep shit no matter what you do. The latter are doing it just for cash and will run away if you give it to them. Either way, they aren't gonna give you any advantage when they rob you.
Besides, it's not the guy walking down the street at 3PM wearing tacticool gear that gets jumped, it's the guy on his way to the subway station at 11pm with his guard down on a quiet, empty street. Crooks aren't dumb, and they're not planning on getting shot anymore than you are. And your best bet to not becoming a victim in a city has always been not being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Know the neighborhoods, and don't look like a tourist or out-of-towner depending on where you are.

    • @GeekOfAllness
      @GeekOfAllness 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The guy is actually pretty quick. If he could get his hands on the weapon, there's no way he'd get shot. Actions can be fast. Reactions can't. The problem is when you fail to control the weapon and the guy decides to take it out on you.
Of course, I'm not that fast, and I'd give off 17 tells before I even made up my mind I was gonna go for the gun. Like most people. So at least some of the stuff he's doing is a bad idea regardless of whether you can get hands on the gun, because you'd be way too slow to pull it off.
But fast hands at that distance can most certainly out-perform reaction times without the other guy being a zombie.

    • @Bacteriophagebs
      @Bacteriophagebs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

@@GeekOfAllness So IF you're super-fast AND you've practiced as much as this guy AND the person with the gun is not really nervous, quick, or just twitchy AND you don't give any tells...then you'll still get shot.
      8:04
You're trying to move your arm faster than the other guy moves his trigger finger. Not to mention that in some of those situations, even if you move your head out of the way, if the gun is that close when it goes off, it can stun or even blind or kill you with the muzzle blast. Unless the gun is a single-shot, you're definitely getting shot after that.
The only way these tactics will work is if the person with the gun wasn't planning to or able to use it (safety's on, unloaded, uncocked, whatever), or they're distracted. These sorts of tactics are taught to police officers (sometimes) so that they can disarm someone who has taken them hostage, but only while the suspect is distracted by negotiations or something, and even then they're only supposed to use them if they really think the suspect is going to kill them.

To your point about CPR, one of my BIGGEST pet peeves is the ol' "CPR can bring someone back from the dead" bs line, often seen in movies, bad medical tv shows and even spouted by some actual CPR instructors. As a licensed Paramedic for over a decade, I can tell you that ABSOLUTELY NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN BROUGHT BACK FROM ASYSTOLE (the medical definition of death) FROM CPR ALONE!!!!! EVER!!!!! All CPR does is keep the oxygenated blood that is already in your body moving around to your vital organs in order to keep them from cell death as long as possible, until someone, either me, the paramedic, or a nurse/Dr (most of the time a nurse, because Drs just stand there and don't do anything besides tell others what to do. Don't believe me, ask any ER nurse, they'll laugh very hard and then agree with me) to get there with ACTUAL DRUGS, that can correct the underlying condition causing the heart to stop. Sorry for the rant, hope it helps, probably won't, this is the internet.

My favorite "gun self-defense" video I ever saw was from a former Nave SEAL. I don't remember it exactly, but it went something like this:
Guy in the video: "Hi! I'm a former Navy SEAL, and this is the best way to defend yourself from an assailant with a gun." He then proceeds to run away and turn a corner.
The best "ain't got no choice" gun defense I ever learned in martial arts was to move out of the way of the "boom-stick" first, get closer to the assailant than the barrel of the boom-stick, then deal with the firearm in question.
To be fair to my instructor, he also said this should only ever be used if compliance and running away aren't options, like when you realize your gf is married and your in her husband's closet.

Well, Captain W.E. Fairbairn (of WW II Commando fame) in his book "Get Tough" describes some techniques that can be used for disarming somebody. However, those techniques presuppose several things. The first is that the person with the pistol simply wants to take you prisoner as opposed to killing you outright. The second is that the person with the pistol gets way too close to you for their own good. The third is that you have practiced the techniques ahead of time such that you can perform them in one rapid, smooth and fluid motion. All of them also necessarily presuppose that the person trying to perform the techniques is in excellent physical condition. None of them apply to situations where somebody is holding a rifle or other weapon in both hands. Last but not least I would argue that there is likely no doubt in anybody's mind that Fairbairn actually knew what he was talking about. Furthermore Fairbairn did not claim that the techniques were guaranteed to be 100% successful.

Another time he had a couple of new recruits buy some dope on the corner and partway through the deal he pulled up in a van and fake kidnapped his buddies in front of the dealers who took off and never came back. Pepper Spray? Nah, FUCK pepper spray. You want to carry something small for self-defense that isn't a gun? Try a tazer. Pepper Spray is too easily disappated with a strong wind, or worse, blown right back in your eyes, blinding YOU as the abductor gets away. As someone who carried both, and used both on consenting friends(Because we're all masochists and stupid), and yeah, the tazer was more effective every time. Especially when your not trying to be gentlemen about it and are willing to jam and practically punch with the fucking thing to make sure it makes solid contact.
If you REALLY want to take down an abductor like that, tazer in one hand, and tackle. Just, straight feral tackle to the ground and practically try to stab them with that tazer. You'll get enough pressure to shock the shit out of them through their clothes. Or you'll find your way under the clothes to shock the shit out of them. But pepper spray? Nah. That's just a good way to blind yourself and let them get away.

The thing is going unarmed against any weapon is inherently a crazy spot. One has to make the decision of what to do.
For my part I've trained boxing and jujitsu and have a brown belt in jujitsu. The reality of dealing with weapons seems to be that everyone loses. A drill we do sometimes is using chalked knives to practice disarms to see where the cuts and stabs would be and that is really eye opening.
On the gun disarms for practice of the basic technique well go light for the first few to learn. Than after that the aggressor will hold on to the training gun harder. It just shows that rarely does the first thing you try work. Also shows why in a real situation if you decide to go then you need to go all the way because there is no turning back.
As to the DUST training yeah it looks terrible.

    • @wesjones6370

These sort of guys are the epitome of scammers to me. His tactics are based on actual real ones. The pistol disarms that he showed in the beginning are essentially what we were trained in the Canadian infantry…but what these people never teach is the difference between practicing disarming tactics for warriors fighting to the death, and self defence cases, where the goal is to survive. Even in the former, you’re not going to use this unless there’s no other option.
The samurai Yagyu Munenori wrote “No Sword”, which was a part of the mastery of Japanese war fighting, when you are disarmed and fighting against an armed opponent. He opens it by prefacing that if you’re in a situation in which you have no arms yourself, and have to disarm your opponent with your bare hands, effectively making your hands more effective of a weapon than his weapon…then what wouldn’t be a deadly weapon in your hands? Thus, you practice these sort of disarms more for a mindset of how to utilize anything and everything to your advantage, and not just the king fu movie style antics. Use anything you can first. A coffee in your hands can be thrown to blind them, more effectively than trying to take their firearm. “Accidentally” dropping your wallet when mugged can give you distance to draw your own firearm if you carry…etc. or just giving a burner wallet with an expired credit card, etc., and a handful of bills, is a far more effective strategy. Only resort to even trying to disarm them if you don’t see any option for survival.

For those wondering, DUST changed his channel name and is commenting on here and other videos calling him out MONTHS after people have moved on. If you find his comments, you'll see things like "Brandon is spreading misinformation" even if his own advice WILL get you killed. Don't fall for his scam folks. Like Brandon showed, he'd be dead in a real situation but it's a "bad" student...

This man has dedicated his life to teaching the citizens of Detroit how to tactically defend themselves. With over 30 years experience, Detroit must now be one of the safest cities in America...oh..wait..

The video of the student retreating and shooting him... TWICE, and him denouncing the student is evidence enough that he not only gives bad advice, but he seriously stands behind his training as "real training". He should be careful, someone's family is gonna sue him if their loved one dies in an attempted disarming they know they learned and "mastered" in his class.

Detroit Urban Survival Tactics needs a disclaimer in every video: Technics in this video are performed by a "trained professional" on actors and should not be replicated ever. Might as well be taking a gun safety class from Alec Baldwin.
