Thanks for this videos! very helpful and clear. I am including in an org chart multiple information which is not self explanatory without a text describing it. How can I include such a "header" within each box for (instead of just showing "2" I would like to see "years in position: 2"). Thanks again!!

Rafael, thank you for watching! You could do that with Data Graphics, but Data Graphics appear outside the shapes. I do not know of a way to add labels into the Org Chart shapes like you asked. As a workaround, you could type the labels into the Excel data list. Instead of having a 2 in the Years in Position column, enter Years in Position: 2 into the cell. Or write a simple formula in another cell that joins the label to the value, like ="Years in Position: " & G2

What can I do if my names column contain duplicates? I can create a unique identifier for each row but I cant find a way to display the name as it is. It only works when i use "unique id" as the name but then it will not show the employee's name in the correct field. thanks!

Phoebe, that does not sound like how it is supposed to work. Your Excel sheet should definitely have a unique identifier column called something like Employee ID, and a "reports to" column called something like Supervisor ID. After that, make sure you are choosing the right fields as you answer the questions in the Org Chart Wizard. If your org chart still does not turn out properly, it may be that Visio is not performing as it should, and you may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

Thank you, very helpful content. How should we prepare the excel data in order to break into the pages? For example; we have 10 departments and I want to show each department in seperate pages in the visio, but we have different managers of different departments who has the same name. Is there any other ways to break the pages with names instead? Can we prepare each department data in seperate pages in Excel?

Ceren, thank you for watching, and for asking your question! I plan to create another video soon on handling page breaks in org charts. Until then, when you first create an org chart in Visio, the Organization Chart Wizard asks a series of questions. One of the last questions is how you want to manage page breaks. This question appears briefly in this video starting at 8 minutes 4 seconds. Instead of putting the org chart all on one page, you can click the Add Page button to create additional pages and specify which manager appears at the top of each page. Having managers with the same name should not cause problems if you have a unique identifier column. And no, you should not separate the Excel data onto separate sheets or lists; keep it all in one list in Excel. We manage page breaks in the org chart in Visio, not by anything we do in Excel.

@@AccelerateComputerTraining Hello. When I transfer the data .. I sometimes have senior specialist and leader reporting to a section head, even though they both report to the same person I want to have the leader slot up and the senior slot after it. Also, thank you so much for the videos

@@taev0005 Visio considers those two employees as being at the same level of importance because they both work for the same supervisor. It will place them on the org chart diagram in alphabetical order. You can drag them into different positions. Perhaps you could try this; I don't know if it will work. Try typing a space character at the beginning of the Leader's name in the Excel sheet and then either click the Re-Layout button, or build the diagram again.
