मेरी नज़र में, हम अपनी समझ, अपने हिसाब व अपने ज़ाएक़े के लिहाज़ से यहाँ इस poetry की प्रस्तुति से लुत़्फ़ अंदोज़ हो रहे हैं, पर अल्लामा इक़बाल का यह कलाम अपने आप में एक बहुत ही अक़ीदत, और ख़ुदाई जज़्बा लिए हुए है। अत: इसे इस तरह से नृत्य और गान के रूप में पेश करना, इसकी सरासर तौहीन है, अगर इसे सख़्त मेयार की कसौटी पर कसा जाए तो- भले ही इसके तैयार करने में अपनी अपनी फील्ड के कितने ही नामी गिरामी लोग क्यों न जुड़ हों।

@@ift3739 I think your response is quite logical and appropriate. The gentleman above has been too harsh in his comments. It was filmed in 1966. I probably heard it during that period that is more than half a century ago. I remember after listening it on the radio I looked for it in Allama Iqbal's book and read it with greater interest and pleasure when I was just in class 8th or so. So in my humble view the director didn't commit anything wrong by including it in the movie. The music is extremely beautiful and voice of great Singer is beyond any comments. I don't find anything objectionable to picturize it. The verse which is missing is included in the original sung by lata. I adore the poetry of Iqbal and hardly find any wrong done here. Yes agreed that dance is just like the dance and it can be ignored.

There was no country in the whole world named Pakistan even at the time of Iqbal's death. Iqbal died in 1938. Mohammed Iqbal had born in Siyalkot in a kashmiri pandit family who had embrased Islam and settled in Siyalkot. @@ift3739 I think your response is quite logical and appropriate. The gentleman above has been too harsh in his comments. It was filmed in 1966. I probably heard it during that period that is more than half a century ago. I remember after listening it on the radio I looked for it in Allama Iqbal's book and read it with greater interest and pleasure when I was just in class 8th or so. So in my humble view the director didn't commit anything wrong by including it in the movie. The music is extremely beautiful and voice of great Singer is beyond any comments. I don't find anything objectionable to picturize it. The verse which is missing is included in the original sung by lata. I adore the poetry of Iqbal and hardly find any wrong done here. Yes agreed that dance is just like the dance and it can be ignored.

I would hesitate “to call it / term it voluptuously enriched urdu “ without being disrespectful to rajinderji . I would call it CHASTE URDU with a PALPABLE & PERCEIVABLE innate message. However, it is a masterpiece from ALLAMA IQBAL and certainly LATAJI ‘s IMPECCABLE URDU DICTATION has left behind an INDELIBLE MARK for the future generations to enjoy it forever.

Whether it is performance of acts of worship or keeping off worldly desires/sins, one has to keep breaking (going against) his heart to make the Creator of that very heart happy!
ऐ इनसान, तू अपने दिल (आईने) को बचा-बचा-के न रख क्योंकि तेरा दिल (आईना) ऐसा आईना है के जब-जब भी ये ख़ुदा की फ़रमाबरदारी के लिये शिकस्ता किया (तोड़ा) जाता है तो वो इस के बनाने वाले (आइना-साज़/ख़ुदा) की नज़र में और भी ज़्यादा प्यारा (अज़ीज़-तर) होता जाता है।

Mohammed Iqbal had born in Siyalkot in a kashmiri pandit family who had embrased Islam and settled in Siyalkot. He is not only great poet of Urdu after Ghalib but also one of the greatest poet of India.

Ishq/ इश्क़ / عشق = Passionate Love; मुहब्बत;
Garmiyaan/ गर्मियां / گرمياں = Warmth

Shokhiyaan/ शोख़ियॉं / شوخياں = Playfulness, Coquetry
Today neither love has that warmth, nor the beauty has that playfulness. Neither that restlessness is there in Ghaznavi anymore; nor those curls in the hair locks of Ayaz are there anymore. The Muslim ummah is at its lowest point; and we have lost our real values somewhere in the past.
Sultaan Mahmood Ghaznavi had made Malik Ayaaz (once his slave) the Governor of Lahore in the year 1021 because of his calibre and loyalty. Sir Muhammad Iqbal laments that such examples of relationship between the master and the servant are no more to be seen nowadays!
“न वो ग़ज़नवी में तड़प रही; और न अयाज़ की ज़ुल्फ़ (बालों) में अब वो घूंगर (ख़म/Curls) रहे!” = आज के दौर में आशिक़ की मुहब्बत में न तो पैह्ले जैसी जज़बातों की गरमी है; न माशूक़ में पैह्ले जैसी शोख़ियॉं (चंचलता)। अब न तो मालिक (सुल्तान ग़ज़नवी) में अपने सेवक (अयाज़) के लिये तड़प है और ना सेवक (अयाज़) में मालिक के लिये वफ़ादारी.
सुल्तान मैह्मूद ग़ज़नवी ने अपने ग़ुलाम मलिक अयाज़ को उसकी क़ाबिलिय्यत और वफ़ादारी से खुश हो कर सन 1021 में लाहोर का हाकिम बना दिया था। अल्लामा इक़बाल यहाँ इस बात पर अफ़सोस ज़ाहिर करते हैं के इस ज़माने में मालिक और ग़ुलाम के रिश्ते की ऐसी कोई भी मिसाल नहीं मिलती।
