Richard, I've been following your channel for at least half-dozen years. THIS is definitely the pinnacle of the channel. Now all you need to do is install a few windows, fill-in the nail holes, and paint. Great job my friend! Hoo Rah!
Wow, thank you!
Congratulations 🎉 so happy to see this completed and know that your marriage was able to withstand this very long makeover. JK🤣. It s so beautiful and I am happy to have been along for the journey. Your work is stunning.
That would be 6 years.
I see and hear 'Brent Hull' language- you would be a good craftsman from 1870. Beautiful work. Few can build classically.@@FinishCarpentryTV
Beautiful craftsmanship, Rich! 100 years from now (or sooner), people will be saying “Who did this? Wow! What beautiful craftsmanship!” Kind of like: “Who was that masked man?”
Got to hand it to you, Richard, that's the coolest fireplace mantle I've ever seen! I'm an architecture buff and I've been to Greece and stood in front of the Parthenon and many other structures. You have faithfully re-created the architecture it in your living room. I'm sure you're proud of this one, as well you should be! Congratulations! Thanks also for the explanations along the way during the build.
Amazing! You're the only person on TH-cam who is doing trim on this level. What a great series!
Richard isn't just any old trim carpenter, he's an artist.
I've been in houses from 50k to 6.7m and i've never seen a fireplace this nice. Plenty of people who want to throw tacky amount of marble. This is elevated and was enjoyable to watch.
That is definitely a top 0.0001% mantle, especially for the DFW area. A masterpiece!! Must be making Brent proud to work with you!
From a retired trim carpenter, I am blown away with this project. A lot of head scratching but well worth the lost sleep. Well done.
I have followed along for this entire build. You Richard are an incredible craftsman. A true inspiration to the craft that many have left behind. Thank you for sharing this project with us. Nothing is more satisfying than sitting in your chair with a cold one saying to yourself "I did that"
Richard, I’ve been following your carpentry journey for a long time. This is by far the greatest carpentry project I have seen anyone document. Keep up the passion for craft!
Appreciate the kind words! Thank YOU!
You will never watch the tv again just spend hours staring at your masterpiece
I know I would. Its such a masterpiece who wouldn’t
Boy...I so agree!
No need to worry about talking to much about it or moving on, we hear your enthusiasm and know you put your heart into it. Everything looks spectacular! Please remember to show us after it’s painted as well. You really did a great job with this and rightfully so should be proud.
Richard I am in awe of what you did to that bare wall. My words don’t do it anywhere near the justice it merits. It is breathtaking to me. Take a bow sir!!! You did it!!!
By far the best fireplace mantel/ surround I have ever seen. Great work, true professional
After a crazy busy and stressful day at my company, there is nothing better than an Old Fashioned and DFW Crown. Thank you Richard, love the mantle, and always a thumbs up.
Brother I agree.
Richard, that's the most elegant wood working I've seen ! Be proud of your talent, God has blessed you with! That is just stunning!
I’ve watched you for years and learned so much. That mantle is incredible. You’ve worked for many years to perfect your profession, and it shows congrats!
I have very little interest in trim carpentry but I keep watching every video you make. I think it is your dedication and pride for your craft that makes it interesting to watch.
Absolutely amazing! You’ve been meticulous in every project I’ve seen you do for the few years I’ve been following so it’s no surprise you pulled something like this off! My brother was a master carpenter but I never got to see much of his work and he passed away in 2021 and your videos give me a glimpse of what I wasn’t able to see when he was alive. He was as meticulous, if not even more so than you. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! And much respect to your brother.
I’m a trim carpenter and watching you build that fire place mantle was amazing I watched all your videos on it wonderful job I also look to your videos on to install certain trim in the old historical houses and buildings I work in your a great inspiration and one hell of a master of your craft
Well done sir. The integrity that you and Brent bring to the craft is admirable.
I am of Greek heritage with a skill of hand making very exclusive high end jewellery, your level of craftsmanship is to be admired and respected, amazing skills and thank you for showing the world that you can bring back classic styles in a modern world and when you put passion into your level of execution you can achieve a high level of finish. Please show us more.
That is an amazing piece of craftsmanship. The eye doesn't get drawn to any one element of the build. Your eyes just take in the whole thing. Then, when you really start to look at the details of it. The shadow lines, the precise corners, the depth of the build up. This is going to be very hard to beat as far as both personal and professional achievement. Great job!
This project and the video format are perfect. It’s almost like watching New Yankee Workshop. You covered everything in enough detail to give me the confidence to attempt this project without going too deep. The collaboration with Brent Hull has really lifted your channel to the next level. I would love to see more video just like this. Brent’s “how to” videos always leave me wanting more, but his discussion videos are detail overload. The two of you make a great team and compliment each other very well.
Beautiful! I know what it's like to stare at a blank canvas with endless possibilities. Stunning result. Bravo sir.
Ashley, you have to be very proud of your incredibly talented perfectionist artist husband and his workmanship! What a beautiful finished product.
On a piece like this, you should get a small polished brass plaque abs install it out of the way, on the baseboard. That plaque should have something along the lines of 'designed and built by Richard circa 2024' with your company info. A living business card if you will. What would something like this ballpark for if a customer wanted something similar? l looks fantastic and I can't wait to see the finished windows.
Blown away by, not only how amazing this looks as a completed piece, but the level of craftsmanship you put into it. Don’t think there was a joint that you slid together that had a discernible gap. No “caulk and paint” for you! Very impressed throughout the entire series.
Richard you never cease to amaze me. You are not only an craftsman and an artist but most importantly a teacher! I have learned so much from you through the years. You have brought up my level of craftsmanship. I thank you for that. Godspeed to continued success.
You just made a grown man weep, absolute perfection, beautiful, classic design, hope you have the chance to build more like this.
Man, your smile at the end speaks volumes. It is neat having your family involved in a build of such grandeur.
Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks with everyone. Who knows how many craftsmen will be inspired to follow in your footsteps with your instruction.
Thank you Richard for sharing your passion for craftsmanship in carpentry with us. That build is truly a work of art. I look forward to your videos, hoping they come more frequently. I know it’s a lot of work to produce on top of what you are doing. Do you plan on showing any more of your work on “The Barn”? It’s like waiting for season 2 of your favorite series.
Thanks so much! The barn is pretty much wrapped up at this point. We built some bunkbeds up there in the 3rd floor. That took about a month. Which is why I haven’t posted much lately. Hoping to get back at it though! Thanks so much for the encouragement.
This is a credit to you Richard, following along was an extremely pleasurable experience..
You should be so proud of yourself and your achievement in this project, I absolutely love every inch of the design you decided on,
Inspiring is definitely a word i would use when i look at it and because I’ve followed your work for years now i can see the finished product like when its filled sanded and sprayed.. keep up the excellent work and the Amazing content..
once again, 👏👏 well done…
Over the top impressive and a real elegant result. You nailed it - literally and figuratively.
It is very important to teach young kids to use power tools safely and not be scared of power tools. I let my seven year old help me doing woodworking using the drill and small circular saw.
Its awesome watching your skills develop and kids grow up .
Happy Easter Richard and family.
God bless
Outstanding craftsmanship Richard I have followed you now for a number of years watched every video and most of them have left me bewildered by the standard of your craftsmanship but this latest series of videos is by far superior than anything you’ve done before absolutely loved every minute Richard. Well done a true craftsman.😊😊😊😊
Those angles! My 60 year memory of trigonometry class in HS reminds me that those extreme angles of 77 and 12.5 degrees come SO CLOSE to 90 degrees which suggests to me is not coincidence. Your center line on the pediment creates right triangles which when added to the extreme angles of your cuts creates angles, the sum of which is 180 degrees which defines a triangle, right triangle or not. I’m blown away by how all this comes together through your fabulous mantle. 🥹
Mate that looks sick, from research, sketches, set out, sourcing the material, install and finally standing back and looking at it come together…wow 👌🏻👍
I think this has been the best build series I have ever watched on TH-cam. Thanks for the great inspiration!
Richard - I’ve been checking nearly everyday to see if you posted another video featuring the mantle AND I must say that you absolutely exceeded my expectations!!! You’re quickly becoming my “go to” content provider for all things beautifully and skillfully constructed - your carpentry skills are amazing!! Thank you for the many hours of enjoyment and education. I can’t wait for your next video to post…
Such kind words! Thank you so much for the encouragement!
This is just awesome! It's fun seeing a craftsman excited about his work. It's weird, i guess, but I enjoy the satisfaction you get after a job well done. Been watching you since shortly after you began your channel. You're my fave, Richard. Thanks for inspiring me.
Top notch! It's great that you have an outlet creating something for posterity. Wondering if it's a personal record with the number of individual pieces flitted in a project of that size.
I have no words to describe what you've accomplished , simply put....... AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
I have been following along with the channel and the series for maybe 3-4 years and I am so impressed with the beauty of this stuff. Through the screen alone that mantle looks meticulously stunning. To accomplish that in video format is something special. Thank you for doing what you do. This work is art on the highest levels
Home Depot has these in aisle 31! 😂
Really nice Richard, way to stay focused on scale. Bravo👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Worth the wait . Beautiful. I forget there a tv there . What a work of art
Richard, what a pleasure watching your passion, and thoughts behind all the details, and of course the craftsmanship to bring it together so beautifully. Thank you for taking us all along on your journey.
This is so complicated and a real work of art, you are one of the best Richard, thanks for sharing this project!
Complicated, yes, absolutely. You have to admire the narrative he shared throughout this build. He not only explained each cut, he also explained why he’s doing it and never loses sight of the vision. Perfection!
Congratulations, I believe you have or will inspire other finish carpenters to go beyond the norm these days. Tremendous design and carpentry, I am in awe!
Rich, I have been with you for a while now, and this is by far your greatest series. You should be very proud of your craftsmanship.
Looks beautiful! I’ve been following your channel for about 4 years now. Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮
Followed your channel for years and watched your skills grow. Seeing this series finish with the results you got is amazing 👏 well done Richard! Ashley was a great apprentice
Wow I think I've just witnessed throughout this build the eight wonder of the world truly amazing take a bow
You should be so proud of what you built. It is done on such a high level. Watching everything you put into it is inspiring. It also makes me think of how this was done regularly hundreds of years ago without power tools.
I have been following since day one. Absolutely stunning I could look at that beauty for literally days. I couldn't have that in my house I would just sit there. Such amazing work Richard. I just went out on my own a year ago and you give me so much inspiration. There is magnificent things that can be created. Thank for for everything you do.
Beautiful work. Came out great. This level of attention to detail and knowledge of classic trim work is appreciated
I've been watching from the 1st video you made. Richard you did it again.I love watching your video.
Richard, what a journey, great job!!! The video and the segments lay out the laborious steps for a perfect completion of this project. Bravo!!!!
Beautiful work! I think my favorite are the triglyphs with the shadow behind it! Such amazing details all around!!
Absolutely amazing project, I watched this from it’s inception and thoroughly enjoyed it. You’re craftsmanship and attention to detail are second to none, and it’s great to see this level of work being carried out in this day and age.
Congrats on this!
You are no longer a trim carpenter, you have become an artiste. This really ups your game. By the way, I enjoyed your Academy Award speech at the end. Nice work from a long-time follower.
Thank you very much!
Stunning! I’ve been following your channel for a number of years and the progress in your craft is truly remarkable. Great job, Richard!
Epically Done!
I love everything about it, especially ALL of the shadow lines.
Richard, You are an amazing craftsman!
I've been following your channel for years. Amazing watching you grow as a carpenter and craftsman.
The best project/video series so far! Looks great! Everything about it...came out perfect!
I have been searching your channel wondering where the new video was. So worth the wait. Sadly its the final one in the series. This is your best series yet. Love your work Richard!
One of my favorite series. Great work!
Excellent work. I watched every episode for this build.
It’s wild to me how tight all your joints are even before painting or caulking.
Looks amazing Richard, I’m a third generation woodworker and been following your work for 6 years and you’re growth is a joy to watch. Paint prep will be fun 😂
First class Richard - the Fireplace setting is fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely wonderful example of skill and craftsmanship. 😮
I love how you had the family involved in some of the more notable steps, memories they'll never forget ! so awesome to watch this vision come to reality
Ive enjoyed your process. I really like how it looks different from different angles and the way light plays off it. Well done!
Wonderful work! A TRUE ARTIST, and master craftsman! You can see and feel the love and passion you have to your craft! Keep up the awesome work.
Hi Richard! Fantastic job on the mantle!! Being of Greek heritage, it’s great you appreciate the Greek architecture! I hope your wife appreciates all your hard work! Cheers mate!
You're a true artist, Richard. I'm so happy to see you teaching your son how to use your equipment. He may not follow in your shoes, but at least he will know tools and how to use them.
Thats beautiful.. Honestly I'd LOVE to see finish prep and painting.
Hi Richard, I have also followed your chanel since day one over here in Scotland.. the progress you have made over the years is inspirational .. looking forward to the progress cheers 🍻
Congrats! Wow it's been such a journey and I followed along with you. Now that's it done..I just want to stand and stare at it..follow the lines and intersections. Beautiful work!
Well done Rickard. I've been looking for to the next instalment. It looks great and your instruction was very helpful. I now feel educated enough to start planning this for my home.
Looks really amazing Richard. Keep the series going with prep and paint...would love to see this officially finished off.
Wow... no words can describe the sense of satisfaction this video brings. What an amazing build. This content will serve as inspiration for the generation to come.
It is fun just watching you smile like a proud father as you describe, then make and fit each part. Great build. Congrats
Dude you're an artist. I loved this series, a bit sad to see it end. But I'm truly I'm blown away at the finished result. Cheers!
Now try doing that same project like the Masters with only hand tools! Great job you have progressed a lot from “just” trimming houses.
That's absolutely beautiful, pride in what you do is a lost art.
You out did yourself with this project Richard. It looks amazing!
That is a home run! Beautiful work & amazing craftsmanship. I get the top being the best, it shows up in the closing shots.
True craftsmanship. Congrats on your stunning project.
Haven’t missed an episode in at least a couple years. I loved every second of this mantle build. Kind of bittersweet to know it’s done, honestly. lol. Amazing work, Sir, I am in absolute awe. Excited to see what’s next.
WOW! I have been following for a long time and have always loved your work. It has been amazing watching you grown and challenge yourself and see the fantastic work that you do, such an inspiration!

Great work! I know exactly what it’s like when you’re building/ designing something at the same time
How to try to envision the completed project and want absolute perfection in your work
Congrats
That is absolutely amazing work man! The thought, design and carpentry execution is just out of this world. Congratulations!
It’s amazing, absolutely stunning! You are very talented to be able to design and build something like this. Many have one or the other of those talents and skills, you have both. Thanks for sharing, I love watching your craftsmanship! 👌👏👍💕💕💕
Awesome trim carpentry at its best. What a wonderful creative mind you have and the skills to bring it to fruition! Very envious of your wife that she married such a talented guy, who always wants to push his limits. Keep videos coming and more often, please.
who else is doing this work and publishing on youtube? Thank you so much for sharing this! This is like getting a super high level education on trim carpentry for free! Thanks again!
Man I have been following you for a while it just seems like your work is just getting better and better and better thank you for taking the time to share it!! It looks perfect
Absolutely amazing craftsmanship on this mantle!!!
I’ve watched from the start and I’m grateful that I did!
Every journey you take us on is awesome.
soooooo freaking stunning!
pediment 77 (in honor of all those 77degree cuts! lol)
so tight and elegant, the room won't need furniture, because everyone will just stand and stare at that monument.
