Love this playlist. Since prof is actually teaching what is authoured by Karl Marx I have noticed ppl hardly ever teach Karl’s Marx books , they only talk about opinions about Marx .
Great to learm Das Kapital this way. This is a big effort and initiative at a very time Capitalism is stacked in its own trap. Marx unprecedented works have never been so useful than this era. Thank you Sir. From Ethiopia.
I never found the patience and mental strength to go past the first few pages of this great book. You have revived my interest after many decades. Will check out the series. Great work, Sir!
Thank you for this great service. 40 years back I purchased the book 5 volumes. I tried to read. But, I couldn't read it more than 2 or 3 pages. Even in that I could not understand a single sentence. Recently heard one great lady, name Sri Ranganayakmma, translated it in Telugu (my mother tongue). I am thinking of buying it. Today I heard your lecture and fully satisfied.Once Again thank you.
Again well done comrade Rahman ! So true to the text , which many seem so difficult ta understand, and so well n clearly explained. Yr a damned good teacher - we Reds are indeed lucky ta have yr kind in the ranks. Lotta Continue/Venceremos !!
You are a great teacher and far more intelligible to us in this subcontinent due to our common accent. Those interested in the book may profit greatly by listening to the lectures by Prof. David Harvey and many others, but there is no substitute to reading the book, in fact toggling between the reading and listening to such excellent lectures.
I tried reading Das Kapital twice but never managed to complete even a single chapter. It's too abstract to understand, especially for someone like me who hasn't completed higher studies. Thank you, Dr. Taimur, for starting this series. I’m looking forward to the next part.
Have you tried reading other Marx books? Das Kapital is a treatise on political economy, and being so, it is the most complex of his books. I suggest you read Das Kapital AFTER reading the other books.
Man labor becomes an abstraction in the capital system and the product becomes important. This abstraction has created alienation for the human beings where he feels himself as a worthless. This agromanic situation sows the seed of revolution in society.
I am an admirer of Karl Marx (1818-1881) and was a student of Marxism in my young adult Years. I parted with it because it simply don't clearly understand the "nature of human labor exploitation". I published my theory in a book titled "An alternative to Marxian Scientific Socialism; The Theory Reduction in working hours" in the year 1981, today I rename it as Zero Working Day. The essence of the theory in the following: Human labor is nature imposed necessity on man to to obtain his means of subsistence, is the root cause of exploitation which results in most of the evils in human society. Therefore, along with the technological progress, the working hours should be gradually reduce to Zero. I am also a strong proponent Universal Basic Income (UBI) today.
This seems like a chauvinist theory. You don't seem to see the tonnes and tonnes of production waste and consumption waste that unfortunately requires people to work. The Red Cross can't even handle it.
Your linen and coat equation would be better explained as "Substrate" and "Product" equation taught in chemistry. The "Labor" would then act as the "catalyst". Substrate + Catalyst = Product Relative product + Labor = Equivalent product
I recently procured a faithful reprint of the first edition of Marx's Kapital from a local secondhand bookstore. This reprint itself appears to be somewhat scarce now, with the potential for a price exceeding tenfold my original payment. Should the value of the item in question appreciate, a sale may be considered. Thanks.
Sir if we look at human life as a commodity what would be the value of it? Because there is a lot of labour that is put in for the growth and sustenance of human life and it is ultimately useful to us because he becomes the labourer
I have a friend whose dad is a multi millionaire private equity guy. One day, I was at my friend's house and saw this big book. It was an old copy of Das capital filled with annotation. My friend then said, "My dad says that book made him millions of dollars."

@@distortiontildeafness LTV isn't from Marx, it's from Ricardo. Marx did make mistakes, of course, and his opinions changed over the course of his lifetime. Varn Vlog does a good job of drilling down on all that.

@@TaimurRahman-English time is a convention to wich refer all rates of exchange. Time or unit of labour would substitute prices to get the system working. This means that the theory depends on the convention to measure the unit of labour, that's to say that prices/rate of exhange are not natural phenomena but agreement between men. what's matter is the jurisdiction not the economy.

Isn't "Das Capital " a synthesis of Hegel and Adam Smith? It is. Brilliant in deductive synthesis though not many in new ideas.
Not true. The theory of surplus value is neither in Hegel nor in Smith.
Karl is a philosopher, Das Kapital is a philosophical treatise.
Sir if we look at human life as a commodity what would be the value of it? Because there is a lot of labour that is put in for the growth and sustenance of human life and it is ultimately useful to us because he becomes the labourer
That is why wages for labour are just above the threshold at which labourer survives and is able to reproduce.
Trapped in this, proletariat will always remain proletariat.
