    I think the “character flaw” that Ginny corrected was getting to live her life. That sounds harsh, but hear me out. If my math is mathing, Lily was only 20 when she went into hiding and 19 when she became pregnant, so she only had 1-2 years of getting to live her post-school life and most of that was likely spent fighting Voldemort’s rising power, so she never really got to live. Ginny on the other hand got to play professional quidditch and gets to raise her children, the things Lily was denied, so while it’s not really correcting a flaw of Lily’s, it is a change for the next generation.

      I like that. One could also add that Ginny got to enjoy a much better relationship with her siblings than Lily did with Petunia. Again, this very obviously wasn't Lily's fault during her generation, but adds to the theme of nice things Ginny got to have that were denied Lily (that to be clear they both obviously deserved)

      Contrary to what some may believe, getting pregnant and becoming a parent is in fact absolutely not the end of your life, in fact it makes all your days living much much brighter and more meaningful.

    • @srayj
      @srayj 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      @@errolpeverell4000 you’ll notice I mentioned that Ginny getting to raise her children was in fact part of her living. My original post wasn’t disparaging Lily for having a baby, it was just to imply that she had another life to protect at that point, making it even more tragic that she didn’t get to live. She didn’t get to celebrate her pregnancy with her friends and family. She couldn’t take her child to a park like a normal parent because she was in hiding. That was all I meant by that.

    I think he was also the last remaining parental figure in Harry's life (Arthur and Molly, while certainly taking care of him and caring about him, always felt like his friend's parents than his own). His death seems to take away that last blanket of safety, right in the moments before Harry must face his ultimate challenge and make his most mature decision to sacrifice himself. It gives that sense of Harry not having anyone to go to for advice, and having to be truly grown up and making this decision for himself and wanting to live up to all his parental figures and idols who died for him to be there.

    Have you guys ever done a comparison video between the Dursleys and the Malfoys?
    Both happen to be high class/stuck-up families consisting of a father, mother, and spoiled son, and both give Harry grief; as time goes on, however, their once "perfect" lives end up going downhill, whether its the Dursleys having to leave their home because of the threat of Death Eaters, or the Malfoys living in fearful loyalty to Voldemort BECAUSE they're Death Eaters.
    I feel that Draco and Dudley mirror each other best: both are raised by their parents to be "the best", bully Harry, and happen to be full of themselves. However, both end up changing in different ways by the 6th and 7th books...
    Idk. I just think it would be interesting to discuss.

      They sort of did in another video… trying to remember which one, but they compared Dudley to Draco in the sense of being golden child, “can do no wrong” bullies who are just parroting their parents beliefs and once they experience more the world they start to change their behavior. They didn’t go into a super deep comparison though, so I think they could do a separate video about it for sure and still make it interesting!

    • @anna-racquelperez1500
      @anna-racquelperez1500 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      Yeah I personally think Snape is a better parallel for Malfoy, and their theory of a better generation still sticks. Like Sev and James, Harry and Draco are fast enemies and spend most of their school years berating and dueling (though Harry doesn't bully the way James does obviously, if anything, he's the one being bullied). Draco was also raised by a bad father and has a love for the dark arts. The difference is that when the time comes, it truly seems that Draco did not want to take the steps that he did. He was forced into the death eater position by his father. And after the war, he seems to change as a person, marrying and truly loving his son in a healthy way. Though he'll never be a saint, I don't think he's into the same dark arts that his dad was, which is very different than Snape. Though obviously Snape becomes a double agent, he does it only because of Lily, not because of the cause. I think Draco got his redemption off page and changed his way (especially if you take *shudders* cursed child into account)

    • @AvidAngelOfDeath
      @AvidAngelOfDeath 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @anna-racquelperez1500 except that Harry did bully Draco. He typically didn't start it but he did finish it on multiple occasions, especially when they were on the train. • @parkersmith7478
      @parkersmith7478 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      @AvidAngelOfDeath if Harry isn't the one who started the confrontation, then he isn't the bully, Draco is. Draco would start to bully Harry, and then Harry would defend himself. And when he used sectumsempra, he thought Draco was an enemy(or at least he was very mad with Draco), so it makes sense that he would use that spell, especially because he was not thinking clearly.

      @@jehousel6487Arthurs death was replaced with Sirius. If Sirius didn’t die in Order of the Phoenix either they would have died in Half Blood Prince or the beginning of Deathly Hallows or would have both survived.
      In my opinion all deaths where written perfekt and each death had a meaning. They are important for character growth and are important to not make the plot boring and unrealistic.
      Quirrell is obvious as a clean victory. He needed to die so that there is no further threat.
      Cedrik starts the war and the hole story changes. Harry was influenced in a traumatic way and it shows how evil Voldemort is. He needed to die so that he doesn’t outshine Harry next year and let the story move on.
      Sirius death shows that all actions have meaning and that harry makes mistakes. He needed to die because he would have been to big as a character in the future that restricts Harry from standing on his own feat. I cant see how he doesn’t join them hunting horcruxes which would have been bad for the story.
      Dumbledore was just op. You needed him to die so that Voldemort can actually take over and be a threat. As long as Dumbledore lives Voldemort is weak and has to hide.
      Hedwig was important to take all atachments from harry. It would have been weird if she would have been with them camping etc.
      Moody was important to show how big the Danger is that nobody is save anymore.
      Dobby was important to close his character development as he actually saved Harrys life for the first time. Beeing able to apparate anywhere would have been to op in the future.
      Battle of Hogwarts was important that some characters die as it would have been so unrealistic if not.

      So, the question then becomes whether the imperius curse can be used to compel someone to divulge information -- which would make this method of identity verification useless against it, or if Kingsley was actually checking for polyjuice, and also, whether Kingsley was being overcautious or not...

    I would argue the entire story is just very focused on Harry wanting and looking for a proper father figure. Like he always has a very special place in his heart for his mother and loves her like we all do our mothers, but he isn’t actively looking for a maternal figure throughout the story. Mrs. Weasley definitely tries to fill that role for him but it doesn’t seem to me like Harry ever views her that way.
    Then when it comes to father figures he has a ton, and it seems like he’s always very quick to try and find someone who can fill that role. He has his own dad, Hagrid, Dumbledore, Lupin, Moody (Barty Crouch Jr.), and of course Sirius. He’s just desperate for a a father figure to teach him how to become a better man himself.

    I personally think Snape is a better parallel for Malfoy, and your theory of a better generation still sticks.

Voldemort had no intention to kill Lilly. Because she sacrificed herself when she did not need to die, Harry was protected. If Snape did not plead for her life, Voldemort would have just killed all 3 without an issue.

    It wasn't until Harry scolded Remus, and then Remus seeing his son...holding his son...his own blood, that a parent's Love takes over. Remus Loves his son, and then decides to love Dora. But it is only the Love of his son that makes him love Dora.

      @@captainspaulding5963 Except it was Pettigrew who AKed Cedric, not Voldemort. Also, in the books Bellatrix didnt use Avada Kedavra, it was just artistic license by the film makers. AK instantly kills anyone it hits, regardless of how powerful the caster or the person it hits is.

    I love this so much. Specially bc HP teaches us, that death isn't the worst outcome and can even mean growth - as we see with Dumbledore f.e.
    It's really beautiful to see, how the next generation can learn from the last and improve apon that.

    As far as comparisons to the marauders. What if we drop Neville, and draco was meant to be the 4th of the group.
    “What if the golden trio had a misfit 4th?”
    I can picture Harry and draco being the best friends, while hermione is the smart one, and Ron becomes the unlikely hero

    I read somewhere that the reason Lupin was chosen to die over Arther was because Rowling’s husband pleaded for his safety as Arther Weasley was his favorite character.

    Because in order to make the Battle of Hogwarts have impact you have to kill off strong characters to demonstrate the threat level of the enemy.
    If nobody gets killed, that scene doesn't hit as hard

    But really? Luna? Are you kidding? 😅
    Piton's figure in the modern age is of course Draco.
    The big hated rival who in the end does the right choice and doesn't provide the killing of his "archenemy".
    I mean, I thought it was... _Pretty obvious!_

      Draco doesn't really have as many similarities with Snape as he does with James. Both James and Draco are purebloods with parents that spoiled them, play Quidditch, are rivals with a halfblood in the opposite house, and said that they would leave if they got Sorted into their least favorite house (Slytherin for James and Hufflepuff for Draco).

    Also while Hermione always stands up to bullying even if the people doing the bullying are people she cares about as far as i can tell Lupin never stood up against the bullying James and Sirius pull which is another way she improves on her sort of predecessor.

    I think Lupin was ashamed of his werewolf form and wanted to die so he wouldn't cause harm to anyone else and as sad as it was, died next to his beloved right by her side after overcoming his shame and finding peace.

    Lupin was actually meant to survive. JK said that she even wrote him alive at the end but had to rewrite his death, and I also think it made more sense. The reasons she gave was: she wanted all of Harry’s father figures dead, plus she wanted to show another orphan (Teddy Tonks), that like Harry lost his parents during a war against Voldemort. I also think it’s more fitting and sad to have all the Marauders gone. And also including his ghost walking Harry to the forest was a “good” change. I mean I loved the character and hated that he died on a side note.
