I was one of those .63% who watched the series during the original run. Then during the re-run. I have even watched the entire series multiple times on TH-cam. Love the Sarabhai family. :)

Ratna ji is 100% correct. Indian serials produce routine saas-bahu shit these days. I would love to see breaking bad, prison break, sherlock, person of interest etc type of serials in Indian television . I am dying to see sarabhai vs sarabhai season 2 . Great & honest interview. Have fun

Good heavens!! This was so pleasing. Love the Sarabhais. While growing up we watched the reruns also as they wouldn't come up with season 2. They were still funny. I knew nothing of all that Ratna Pathak Mam said. How can people not see the potential in a cult and how sad it is that they don't get the money from it...
N *special mention to this anchor*. Who's this girl! Haven't seen someone being so natural and genuine and actually taking a conversation forward so well in years! Such a delight and a perfect rhythm. It seemed like they did it in one take.

Ratna is so right on the state of quality of Indian television. Reflecting back on the shows like Buniyaad, for eg., there was a vision to reality and story telling. We need that back in Indian television. There are mostly, only average soaps with average artistes. We need to boom the NSD actors back in real work.

I liked the video even before watching it, I was sure it's gonna be a good interview coz of Ratna ji.... ma'm I was surprised to know the show had such low TRPs, unbelievable. Coz my entire family used to wait eagerly to watch it n we would watch the re-run with equal enthusiasm too. Sad that people didn't get the humor back then.

Low TRP .... It's because of weekly telecast I think . People are habituated to watch regular episodes . People can't wait for a week long for next episode. Otherwise I have never seen a show like Saravai vs Saravai ever. Best ever show Saravai vs Saravai 1st season. If TMKOC telecast weekly I think it's also not work on TRP

She was extra ordinary in a forgotten movie encounter ..
This interviewer was totally unqualified to interview Ratna Pathak Shah. Just look at her expression when Shah talks about Sarabhai having a .63 television rating point at 5:03. The interviewer had no idea what that number represented. And a few minutes later when Shah was talking about how angry she was that the show's producers were making money in syndication and the actors were getting nothing, the interviewer looked like she had no idea what to say. Next time, do your damn research. Being a fan of a show doesn't mean you just quote lines from the show ad infinitum. You need to know the production details as well. That's what investigative journalism is. Kudos to Shah for putting up with this farce with such dignity, although I wouldn't expect anything less from her, just as I now know to expect nothing more from this interviewer. Sheesh.

Like wow. This is called an interview. 28 mins flew by.
I As a Viewer Truly Apologize For Such A Low Initial Response And Reaction To Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Though As An Average Middle Class I Will Obviously Give An Excuse Which Is I As A Kid Was Only Allowed To Watch TV For An Hour From 1800 to 1900. Irrespective Of That This Must Be Really Disheartening For The Cast And Writers. It Was Not Just A Fun Show It Was One Of The Wittiest Like Ji Mantri Ji And Even That Was Inspired By Yes Minister. This Was Such An Original, Organic Fresh, Smart, Sassy, Witty Show Like Dekh Bhai Dekh. I Even Loved Filmy Chakkar And Gubbare And Hum Paanch Were So Original And Amazing. Thank You To The Writers And The Cast For Bringing Them Alive And Crew For Making It Possible. And Heartfelt Thanks For Bringing It Back.

4:55 RatnaJi, I am so sorry to know that. But mind you, I and my family watched the entire first season of Sarabhai during its first run, between 2004 and 2006. We loved it so much, and I looked so forward to it, and we hated the fact that it used to be telecast only on Monday at 8:30 pm on Star One. That was the only time slot in the week I used to look forward to (Instant Khichdi used to be telecast on Tuesday, and we watched that too).
I remember I used to go for science tuitions from a nearby tutor, and used to run home on Mondays so that I would not miss a single scene of Sarabhai. I was preparing for my first CBSE Board Exams in 2005-06, and I never ever skipped your show even during my pre-boards. I remember the show awkwardly ended in March 2006, during my board exams. I fared really badly in my Social Science exam, as I was gutted to know the show had ended.
I and my family have since watched all the episodes of the first season again, as well as watching the second season twice. There was a great connection between us and you, SatishJi, Sumeet, Rajesh and Roopa.
Came here after Tried&Refused Productions. Man, what an actor! Every word of hers on the present state of television entertainment is gold
Not only is she is a par excellent artiste, she nails the ugly creativity issues that they face perfectly! That's also another reason why I love her and Naseer; they call a spade, a spade! I can't wait to see her back as Maya Sarabhai; the best actor on the show closely followed by Roshesh aka Rajesh kumar.
I've worked with the Shah and designed costumes for their plays.. and they get it and give back so much as artists and inspirations and most importantly.. some hardcore perspective with substantial backing.

Sarabhai was such a great show and Ratna Pathak Shah is such a great actor and wonderful person. Setting the benchmark for fine acting since forever! absolutely love her. I hope they make a sarabhai v/s sarabhai season 2 soon!
television was such a pleasure to watch until the "Balaji Telefilms" was concieved. Just disaster.
I have installed Hotstar only because of Saravai vs Saravai 1st season. I used to seen it daily before sleeping after a hard/tired day ,,,, that 69 episodes n the missing one episode I found on TH-cam ( Rosesh poetry award ) each n every character OMG it's perfect.
I am totally amazed by Ratna Pathak Shah.. One of the fewest actresses on TV whom I truly admire.. Everything that she said, undoubtedly makes a lot of sense.. and now after 10 years of heartbreak I understood why Sarabhai vs Sarabhai had stopped..

She is absolutely right. Sarabhai vs Sarabhai is the ONLY comedy show on modern Indian TV that is well-made and has smart comedy. That show is legendary and comes in line with old classics like Dekh Bhai Dekh and Zabaan Sambhal Ke.
