My friends councils homeless team is avoiding stating at what stage her homeless app is at.. there’s no mention of Prevention/Relief/Full duty within any of the 2 emails received from the council and when she asks for confirmation of the duty the question is ignored. She has simply been told to find her own PRS accommodation. Great videos I’m working my way thru them!🙂

I think you're spot on about the homeless reduction act. It creates a lot of confusion, obfuscation and mostly useless paperwork and box ticking which takes valuable time away from actually helping people. Unnecessary stress for staff and homeless applicants.

Yeah it really annoys me when i hear politicians / charity CEOs saying how great it is when neither have ever had experience of it in practice.

In laymans terms what does this mean This is a Section 184 notification under the Housing Act 1996 Part 7 as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. It confirms our acceptance of a Section 189B (2) duty to help to secure that suitable accommodation does not cease to be available for an applicant’s occupation and explains what that duty is.

It's fancy talk to say that the council has accepted the relief duty.

Thank you very much mate for laying out what it means. I was residing in private sector as a tenant until I became homeless by council due to their inspection of the property I lived in and the property was condemned by fire department as fire risk and not having any scape exit in case fire broke out. So they handed a prohibition letter to my landlord saying the property must be empty of occupancy and it’s effective immediately. I have been considers by local council that I’m a homeless and have local connection and eligible for assistance. But now I’m giving a letter placing me under section 189B. But I’m not in priority for emergency accommodation. I want to be in main housing plan

Homeless Application submitted … triggers section of 184
Meet the condition for priority …. Triggers section 188
The only interim accommodation available is hotel…..if you decide to stay where you at like with friends/family sofa surfing…….. Does this make a difference? In other words does going into “interim accommodation” speed up getting offer

Hi, thank you for your video. I respect the way you deliver in your videos... very helpful. I have been served a section 21 no fault notice and I live in West MIdlands-single mum with 2 children. I am worried, that I will be left in temp accommodation if nothing is available (6 weeks left until eviction date.) Storage for our furniture has taken up most the savings and I just worry about "relief duty" happening to us. Does a housing officer/council still help and stay in touch after the 56 days, I have heard of people being in a 6 month temporary room or home privately/short-hold but by then the council feel no duty of care toward them. I saw a BBC TH-cam video of a mum saying she was told to leave her hotel room as the time was up and the council literally left her with no duty of care completed toward her and her children even though she had arrived before 4pm. I just want to know how long before people are completeley left on their own in a similar situation to mine and abandoned by the housing officer/council. I don't know how long the support from the housing officer will last.

Hypothetically speaking, following S21 if a council emails and tells a family to find their own PRS property and they (the council) will allow them to retain band 2 on the council waiting list whilst in the PRS property AND pay the upfront costs such as the deposit / first month's rent. Can the council be trusted? #toogoodtobetrue

Hi...I have a quesion...If my sister was given the key to emergency accommodation (she was pregnant and homeless) on the 29th Feb 2024 is that when the relief duty starts? Her homelessness prevention officer said that he didn't 'pull the trigger' until the 6th March 2024 and the relief duty didn't start until then. Is he just trying to gain more time? I spoke to him today and and he said the 56 day relief duty ended yesterday, but I believe it ended last Friday 26th April as that is 56 days from when she got her keys on the 29th Feb. When she spoke to him today he didn't even know who she was until he went through his notes and said that he had been very busy...doesn't fill her with much confidence!
