My friend expansion valve has nothing to do with Seasonal energy efficiency, As long as your coil is built for higher pressure above 450 psi. And you can convert 13 or 14 seer R. 22 to R 410 but if you are installing a 16 SEER system You will need a bigger body size coil and also Variable speed furnace
@ALL THING HVAC / Wais Heating and Air Condtioning - I have a Goodman 3.5 ton condenser with 407C freon. I am replacing it with Lennox XC16S048-230, 4 ton, 2 stage, 410A condenser. The evaporator coil says that it is good for 410a, R22, R12, R-500, R502. 350 PSI. A/c tech says that he will replace the piston and make it work. Should I ask him to install TXV valve instead or how best to handle it? Please advise.
Hi He is wrong, First make sure your coil is a high-pressure coil, above 450 psi , R410 is High pressure refrigerant , and it will not work good with piston and 2nd every Freon has their own expansion valve, special R410 A , and R22, so when you’re installing a 410A condenser you have to install expansion valve, and last when you say 2 stage condenser and you have a 80% standard furnace that will not give you more then 14 SEER , For 16 SEER or higher efficiency You need a variable speed furnace and also a big cabinet Coil, and minimum 18’’ return Duct Thanks
Why didn’t you just replace the flowrater (orifice/piston) with a 410a type I do it to dozens of units and carry all sizes to save time and money on a TXV? I have great success with straight q CL A/C or heatpump
Yes you can use piston too but The TXV can vary the amount of refrigerant flow through the evaporator by opening and closing in response to evaporator heat load. Compared to a fixed orifice, a TXV operates more efficiently in varying environmental conditions (theoretically, at least).
Just a word of advice. You seem knowledgeable enough. Perhaps the reason you weren't getting the views you wanted was poor production. A bunch of background music is annoying for most people. Especially the same old same old royalty free garbage. Also when you performed much of the work it was out of frame. You also keep putting tools and garbage in front of the camera blocking view. Just the few things I noticed. If you ever decide to get back after it, work on those items and you could possibly get better views.
Thank you brother for your advice. The only reason I put music so people don’t hear our Private conversations. Our videos are hours long and sometimes we take videos from the entire job, a lots of time the customers are talking or we are talking and also the back ground Noises are there so we have to cover all those conversation and noise with free music.
Of course I always check the psi on the coil. it has to be above 380 psi or I will change the coil completely all conversion will be Based on rating of Pressure on the coil, the video shows how to change or install a EXP valve, and on this video I am not Suggesting to install a R 410 condenser with our 22 coil,

I installed the Expansion valve and also Welded a service valve to connect with the expansion valve to it.
You don’t even need to do that just replace the piston/orifice that comes with the new condenser

Yes you can but please make sure your coil is above 380 psi

Hope the coil was rated for 250psi test pressure it's it's 150psi you can't do that .

Do you have to replace the evaporator?
You can change the evaporator coil or just replace the Expansion valve,
But I recommend to install a expansion valve it’s cheaper and a lot faster too
