    Just to clarify- an asymptomatic, vaccinated and boosted person that tests positive, does need need to isolate depending on their workplace-which Amy stated earlier. Testing is important because if healthcare providers are positive, we can’t work until negative, having a horrendous impact on staffing levels.

    Happy New Year. I have completed 2 doses of MRNa vaccine no booster as it is less than 6 months. Last week developed runny nose and random body aches. This week sudden loss of taste and smell. Drive thru PCR nasal swab found positive for SarsCov2. So that being said could I consider this my booster? And can I transmit it to my family since my viral load should be decreased due to vaccine?

    Earliest New Year - closest to date line - not sure, but possibly Republic of Kiribati?
    Wikipedia: Their spread straddles the equator and the 180th meridian, although the International Date Line goes around Kiribati and swings far to the east, almost reaching the 150° W meridian. This brings Kiribati's easternmost islands, the southern Line Islands south of Hawaii, into the same day as the Gilbert Islands and places them in the most advanced time zone on Earth: UTC+14. Kiribati is the only country in the world to be situated in all four cardinal hemispheres.

    1:16:04 The data (on severe cases and deaths) that proves that the booster is needed because the immune response after the first 2 doses wanes was available from Israel and the UK since July-August. By now it is clear that the responses after the booster don't wane at the same rate (97% effectiveness against severe disease and death is maintained for 4-5 months now). So it is not clear that the next doses would be needed. Apparently 3 doses of mRNA is the golden mean :-)

    • @rasmasyean
      @rasmasyean 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's actually "the vaccinated" that need to settle down and get back to normal life. The unvaccinated are already, or have always been leading an normal life because they are obviously not scared of "infection". But some people are so scared by infection statistics they just keep hiding and make a big deal about preventing exposure that they will just keep hiding until yet another boost.

    I have a question. My 13 year old step daughter is out of state visiting her father. The father has been sick and they all got tested today. They only had the rapid antigen test and he was positive (he is also the only one who has had symptoms) and my step daughter and her step mom were both negative (they are also fully vaccinated) My daughter really wants to come back home but we are concerned about the reliability of the test. Isn’t it quite possible that my daughter and the step mom just got false negative tests, since the father has been sick for a solid week and has had symptoms such as coughing. My wife and I are fully vaccinated but we have a 3 and a half year old at home. Should we wait to have a PRC test with our daughter before she returns? We are just concerned that the 13 year old is asymptotic and may bring covid into the home. Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

      Omg! Let her come home! Have her wear an N95, drive her home with the windows in the car wide open and wear your masks. Once home, have her stay in her room until she tests negative. My teenage granddaughter nevet got covid even tho her father, mother and two small siblings did. BRING YOUR KID HOME!!!

    • @eunicelcastilloeunicelarac9421
      @eunicelcastilloeunicelarac9421 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All these measures I attest to because we have had similar situations arise in our family. My friend had to drive her unvaxxed kid to the er. She had an N95, he had an N95, she drove with every window down and the a/c blasting. She never got it. This was repeated multiple times as Covid ripped thru her family. She was the only vaxxed person.

      @slashtrio 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eunicelcastilloeunicelarac9421 I appreciate you sharing your experience. My step daughter lives 13 hours away so driving the windows open and N95 masks would be tricky to maintain. She also has ADHD so attention to details is not her strength. She is getting a PRC test this week and I am meeting the father half way to pick her up next weekend. So even if she was positive she likely won’t be contagious by then anyway. It’s all going to work out ok. Thanks again

    ??Question??- I work in grocery in Western Maryland (thick in trump country). I'm vaxed with Pfizer & contracted covid 4 days after 2nd vax in April 2021, and just got my 3rd Pfizer Booster and am feeling sick but not from the booster (sore throat/sinus etc). Is there any information for strength of immunity for people fully (3x) vaxed *and already experienced full covid once and possibly twice? Thank you for any information and for all of the clear communication! 🙏

    • @skepticalbadger
      @skepticalbadger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vincent and Amy have often said that infection plus a vaccine dose gives you excellent immunity. Omicron is something of an unknown quantity however all evidence points to three doses being sufficient to prevent serious disease, so three doses plus prior infection (same as me incidentally) is about the best protection you can get. Exposure to the virus then might just boost your immunity or, if it does infect, is likely to be a case of the sniffles. You are good :)

    • @Bushxy
      @Bushxy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update- Well, i have COVID. Again. I went to go be seen for bacterial infection, but bc my symptoms aligned with covid I had to get tested first- which just came back positive. So this means 4 days after Pfizer vaccine #2 (in april) and now 4 days after Pfizer vaccine #3 (12/27) I've contracted covid both times. Is this weirdly coincidental, or am I missing something? I am definitely sick though. Thanks to all for any info! 😷✌

    I don't know if I buy this conclusion that the mRNA vaccines were timed "wrongly", and we are correcting it now by giving the 3rd shot after 6 months or so. You don't mean that literally, I'm sure? Because staying singly vaccinated for 6 months is a bad idea, especially with Delta. So was it really wrongly timed? Or is it rather, that in a theoretical ideal world, one would space it 6 months apart, to give ideal long term immunity, if one does not have to worry about infections during that time? While a single shot did fine with the ancestral virus, this wasn't the case any more with some of the dominant variants that came up. So all in all, while one could make the point that 6 months spaced apart would be ideal for the immune response theoretically, in reality, what was done was absolutely correct: get as many people fully protected as fast as possible. And then give the booster to complete it/ counteract the waning protection (also from severe illness and death). Am I missing something? Also, is there really good data around that two doses 6 months apart is as good as the 3 dose scheme? I'd be curious to know....

    • @rasmasyean
      @rasmasyean 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The whole point of the vaccines was to get you up to 95% or whatever as fast as possible and fully resume the economy as fasts as possible. Well, it didn't actually work out that way...but whatever. It had nothing to do with "optimal timing for long term immunity".

    • @rasmasyean
      @rasmasyean 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cg4806 The "booster effort" is also to get people to calm down and resume life. They beleive it will significantly reduce INFECTION. But that is false.
      I mean, arround me, you hear of vaccinated ppl infected all the time right now. This waiter says all this friends who got positive were all boosted. Just today 4 more positive ppl had to isolate from a supermarket after 7 "close" workers last week were sent home after a positive. 6 were negative, then positive the next day. They are vaccinated too. A karate dojo closed cuz a 4 hour class had all 12 participants positive. And you need to be vaxxed to do indoor activities accordinig to draconian nyc mayor.
      Yeah, so maybe it will take 30 minutes (vs 15) "close contact" to become positive, but that's irrelevant when working in a room for 8 hours and partying for 5 hours on Chrismas, let alone staying over for 5 days at parents. lol

    • @droneinthehood
      @droneinthehood 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rasmasyean i‘d be curious to know how fresh the booster was. We know the booster gives maybe 70-80% protection from infection with Omicron after 1-2 weeks and maybe for maximally 1 month, then wanes quickly again. I‘d also would love to know how many of the people you mentioned actually developed symptoms despite the booster, vs. staying asymptomatic. Do you know?
      But I agree. Boosting will likely help reduce infection for people who stay generally careful, but for most people who want to resume life, the latest 1-2 months after boosting or so, the protection from infection isn‘t high anymore. Still, I‘d rather catch Omikron tripply vaccinated than just 2x.

    I love you guys but sometimes you two are way too pedantic. Complaining about R0 is like complaining about LD50. A quick hand description of the transmissibility of a virus, in an average population in an average density in an average person, is worth measuring. Are there other factors that people need to be mindful of when looking at these numbers? Of course, however, you would never throw out the concept of LD50 because you don't know the species of mouse, the age of the mouse, the diet, and level of exercise of the animal. One would hope the factors are more are less controlled for, but you need to set a standard somewhere.
    Also viruses are alive, they replicate and are subject to evolution by natural selection, all these other factors for life are just fluff.
