    @vincent I applaud your immediate defense of Amy when a personal insult was hurled in her direction… and your clear and unhesitating removal (rather than suspension) of the perpetrator. It’s obvious that in addition to being a genuine intellectual and SME you are the kind of old-school class act that I respect and would love to know personally. Bravo.

      Protecting Amy… an important task as she reminds me so much of my mother-in-law and my 96 year old Grandma.
      (that didn’t sound so complimentary, but it was. I love and enjoy my mother-in-law AND being treated like a king by my Armenian grandmother…. First born male and all.. LOL)
      Thanks for the podcast episodes. I am only a mere paramedic, (acquired when we absorbed NYC-EMS), with an MS in structural engineering. So I understand about .01% of anything said. 😂. So I just pester the wife with my questions.

    Hi! As a non-virologist, non-scientist, just have to say I always love the podcast.
    Also wanted to give a shout out for non neuro-typical women, including those with autism. We aren’t idiots, we present differently than people with autism who identify as men, and you may be surprised how well some of us communicate/function.
    If you have a non-neurotypical person in your life, take a moment to ask them how you can support them. ❤️
    :::thank you for coming to my TED talk:::

Different from strong and persistent N-specific antibodies, S1-specific IgM responses, which evolved in asymptomatic individuals as early as the seventh day after exposure..."

    Just some thoughts on plastic particle pollution. Saltwater would kill or stunt normal terrestrial plants. Small microparticles in an apple would not have uptake from saltwater to terrestrial plants because the salt would be toxic to the plant.. Small micropartles in freshwater might or might not be up taken, but the particle size would have to be very, very small to cross from soil across the plants rigid cell wall. I think the microparticle would have to pass either in freshwater or tagging along with a mineral nutrient. I would suspect if there are microparticles of plastic in an apple it would be from rinsewater after the fruit was picked. Just an opinion, but in an animal such as a seal or a fish, larger plastic particles would have active digestion (which doesn't occur in a plant in the acidic manner of animals) and the active digestion could reduce plastic particles in such a manner as to either physically penetrate fatty tissue or possibly be taken up . We know that pollutants are taken up in fish (e.g. mercury) but that is through a long process of bioaccumulation from eating prey that had taken the pollutant and incorporated it into their flesh. The mercury is taken up at an elemental level, but plastics are not elemental and are instead quite long complex chains of petrochemical derived organic based compounds.

    • @queenofshred
      @queenofshred 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Microplastics are everywhere, not just in sea water. They are in the air that we breathe, as well as the water that we drink and the food that we eat. They get into the air mostly from wear and tear on our vehicle tyres, shoe soles (made from EVA plastics or similar, not natural rubber these days) and polyester clothing. We don't yet know the population level effects, but I personally have a hypersensitivity to certain plastics (I can't wear synthetic clothing, or anything stitched together with polyester thread without it destroying my skin and causing nerve pain). The ubiquity of environmental plastic pollution does make life difficult for me. I have to vacuum regularly to keep the plastic build-up in dust away from my skin and lungs.
