When I saw you were reacting to this song following your video about the issues you are going through with your family, I said out loud “oh dear”. I’m sure many people will comment about the situation that caused James Blunt to write this song, so I’ll skip that part. The part that hits me so hard is when James says “don’t be afraid. It’s my turn to chase the monsters away. As a child, my mom was hugs and kisses, but dad was the one I needed when I was scared. He looked under the bed and in the closet to make sure there was nothing there that could hurt me. Dad was security. He’s gone now, I only wish I’d had the chance to chase the monsters away for him. ❤

He drove a military vehicle into a war zone with his guitar strapped to the outside of the vehicle! This song was written because James’s Dad (who is sat next to him) was seriously ill with kidney disease and needed a transplant. They thought there was no hope, so this song was written and it was recorded in one take.
