Nice video. Someday I’m going to find where this creek is you are always doing your small rod reviews and comparisons on. It looks amazing and appears to have a good trout population. We were camped “off grid” in southern Colorado on the Cimarron River for the last 2 weeks. Right where they filmed the final scenes of the old version(John Wayne) of the movie True Grit. Finally got a chance to spend some time really fishing my Oni Style Coco rod for many, many hours on a smaller, brushy banked creek(East Fork & Middle Fork Cimarron Rivers. I’m a fan. Yes I wish the handle was a little thicker for my big mitts but at a weight of UNDER ONE OUNCE it’s not a “problem”. The only other “complaint” I have is it’s a baby blue colored rod. Well, baby blue is better than your other color choice: pink! Pretty sure Mr. Sakakibara let his wife “Coco” have a little more input on this rod than just the name! 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️😁 All that said it’s a sweet rod for sure! Only had a couple incidences when I hooked a couple trout above 12” and in some fast water. Exciting but still landed em. An amazingly smooth, light, capable rod for small to medium trout where the conditions call for a 9’6” rod. Did I mention I’m such a fan! 😅 Neil

Kris, may I just acknowledge all your work presenting the finest in up to date newly released Japanese and American Tenkara, Seiryu and Keiryu rods etc. on Tenkara on The Trail. Each video inspires, informs and educates so many of us contemporary Tenkara enthusiasts of the how, what, where, when and why of this wonderful sport. Retired and on a fixed budget yet undeterred each week you deliver a lot of laughter, smiles, and the best content in all the best places always 100% from the heart (and your wallet) never a complaint ( except when you lose a fish, snap a rod section or lose a fly) delivering to all us the rewarded viewer. So on behalf of the viewing audience, I take the liberty to speak the obvious here n' now!! Held in high regard, your of the counted few whose contributions to Tenkara has made the world a better place to cast a fly . Until the next Tenkara on The Trail episode; Thank you and best regards Sir.

Love this series. Both are designed by master Sakakibara yet one was manufacture by Nissiin and another one is directly comes from Mr.Sakakibara. Very interesting to hear your opinion next.

Thanks, that brings up a good question… I’m not sure what plant/manufacturer produces his own brand.

It’s a fun creek. I wish I had time to reach the upper stretches that day.

Kris, You kept mentioning the "bend in the (Coco) rod" so wish there had been more video showing the bend . . . Do you know why they colored it all blue . . . maybe it's Coco's favorite color?

Sorry, I wasn’t angling the camera up enough to see it. Sometimes it’s hard to know where it’s pointing from my chest. Interesting color choices, one pink and one blue. Definitely out of character for Oni but obviously has something to do with his wife.

According to Oni shop website, It is designed for beginner to intermediate. Maybe they think design it colorful blue and pink might attract younger anglers? In Japan since it is traditional way to fish, not many younger fishers are doing Tenkara. Fly and lure fishing are more popular among younger generation.

I was going to do it last week, but I have been out of town bird hunting, so probably next week. This Saturday will probably be the Wasabi 360 .

I’m not trying to be a disrespectful person here… my intentions are good Kris… I’d love to know more about your sub life and how they connect to your interest in Tenkara… my suspicion is that your technical expertise in the nuclear power systems and navigation would lend itself to your research into a Japanese water based sport such as Tenkara/Keiryu/Seiryu… because of the Germanic attention to detail that the Japanese have within the micro realm of materials management in manufacturing and pure focus on subtraction of noise within initial design concepts… in British Columbia where I reside there is a healthy respect for Craftsman Architecture that clearly derives from Japanese design in as much that it strips away elaborate French frills in favour or the fundamentals of the design structure and intention of the end result that the Rod provides when complimentary line(s) and fly are tantalising the fish’s instinct
So yes your direct path to these fishing, hunting and backpacking disciplines would be facilitating. I appreciate your perspective and shared excitement thus far Kris. You’re videos are a delight and packed with useful experiences

Thanks Curtis. I am a self proclaimed nerd and was attracted to nuclear power because it appeared demanding and required great attention to detail. I love the process of learning. I also have an appreciation for the rich history.
