Does the Can-Am Ryker 600 have enough power for you?

  • This past week I traveled to Idaho to become certified as an instructor for the 3-Wheel Basic Rider Course (3WBRC). While there, I had the chance to take a set of lengthy rides on a Can-Am Ryker 600. I took this opportunity to reflect on whether the Ryker 600 ACE is a worthy purchase or if potential owners are better off spending the additional money to purchase a Ryker model with the 900 ACE engine, such as the Ryker 900, Ryker Sport, and Ryker Rally.

    Just got the 600 this week! I love it! Traded in my Harley for a 3 wheeler. I am getting old and the stability of the 3 wheels and the automatic trans is a big deal for me. Not having to shift at every stop light is a game changer.

    My 21/600 has more than enough power to keep up with the various two and three wheel bikes in our club. Probably the most dangerous issue is to have too much power and think you can handle it. Better to use brakes to get out of a problem situation than the throttle.

    I've never ridden a 900 but I rode a 600 home 100 miles and was passing cars at 75 to 80 mph. I thought it had plenty of power. I don't do burn outs or play on a motorcycle, I did all that when I was young back in the 1960's. Now I'm OLD and am happy just to be riding.
    I own a Harley Daividson Tri Glide Ultra but the next time I trade it just might be for a Ruker 600. The Ryker handles way better than the Harley, or a Gold Wing trilke and even better than a CanAm Spyder. I can honestly say the Ryker is the best handling three wheeler I've ever ridden and more fun.
    Thanks for the video, ride safely and snjoy every journey.

    Great video. 👍 I got a 600ACE for many reasons.
    1st the price, if I decided the Ryker isn't right after all I didn't drop as much cash. Also would I miss the 900ACE for that price? Apparently not🤣
    2nd everything I've put on my 600ACE will fit on a 900ACE. I keep the OEM parts. So if I decide to upgrade I'm not buying that shit again.
    3rd the speed get me from 0-70 in the time it takes to say whiplash. 75mph on the highway all day and if I need to pass it rolls to 88mph. I'm riding to the hill country and this ride is great out there. The 900ACE I know myself and will ride 90-100 everywhere. Didn't want to die or go to jail so the 600ACE keeps me in check.
    4th the maintenance is cheaper. Less oil for the oil change and smaller filter means less $ on maintenance not much but every bit helps. Only two spark plugs to change instead of 3.
    5th as long as it's a Ryker you're going to have fun👍
    Edit that 600ACE exhaust sounds way better waiting at a yield under a bridge then the 900ACE in my opinion 🤷

I’m swaying to 900 because of the increased hp and it’s the same power as my current motorcycle. If anyone with a 600 feels uncertain on the interstate with quickly getting your speed up to pass vehicles, just invest in a pedal commander. They are 300 bux but they give discounts every other day. Even b4 my pedal commander I was zipping around on interstate but it has the take off of a 900 with the pedal. commander. It doesn't give actual power but it can have u at 70mph very quickly. Only thing the 600 is missing is sport mode.

    • @3WheelKhalil

    As a disabled rider, I've been chomping at the bit ever since I discovered these machines. I was riding a Chinese trike scooter for the past 3 years, since I started in 2019, but the appeal of these machines has caught my eye. Unfortunately, due to my lack of a driver's license, in the state of Michigan, I can't legally ride one at the present moment.
    Hoping my state representative will read the email I sent him and realize, even though I'm the one voicing the issue, that there are plenty of potential riders being gatekept from the joys of riding anything worth it, by unfair rules.

    I would just say try the 600 and the 900 to see what you like the best. I’ve owned about 20 motorcycles and 18 snowmobiles over 50 years. Every time I went with the cheaper ride, I was always disappointed. I thought buying the smaller cc unit would be easier to ride and certainly cheaper. After riding a season or two, I was bored and looking for more power. It also hurts when your buddies pass you up on the more powerful units. Learn from my mistakes! Save up a little longer and get the bigger rig.

    When I went to pick it up they wanted me to take the 600 so they could keep the 900 for their “sales days event”
    I refused and drove the 900 home.
    I would have gotten the rally but the didn’t have one. This was in 2019 and Rykers were hard to come by.

  • @MrBTRDAYZ
    @MrBTRDAYZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was a great video review, 3WK!!! I have a question, but first let me lay out my understandings, and you correct me if I'm wrong:
    - Ryker 600 have street tread pattern tires for better traction on asphalt. Rally has dirt tread pattern for better traction in the dirt. Both tires are same size though.
    - Rally rides 1" taller off the road surface than the 600.
    - A stock Rally weighs 64 pounds more than the stock 600.
    With my understanding, I'd expect the taller ride height of the Rally would give it a higher center of gravity. This combined with the extra weight and less grippy tires, should mean that the 600 may be able to outhandle the Rally when the asphalt road gets twisty. I'd expect the 600 would be able to turn left and then quickly transition and turn right more responsively than the Rally. In fact, I believe that if the road doesn't have enough straight-aways for the 900 Rally to exploit it's HP advantage, I think not only can the 600 keep up with the Rally, but may even be able to outrun it, assuming both riders are of the same weight and skill level.
    Would you agree?

    • @3WheelKhalil
      @3WheelKhalil  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a bad train of thought. Another variable to consider: The new Rally has advanced adjustable suspension, that could provide a cornering advantage if dialed in correctly. Regardless, I don’t think the the performance in the twistys would be vastly different on either model. Straight line that is a different story.

    I live in Ohio where the highest speed limit is 70mph. I drive a 600cc Ryker 100 miles home for our son right before Christmas at 70 mph and crack it open a couple of times and it seemed to pick up and go just fine. I never went over 80mph, Ohio has plenty of state patrol officers which like to write tickets at about $150 each. So I think for people who live in Ohio the 600cc Ryker is just fine, unless they want to do some hot rodding or want to pay fines, and maybe lose their license, they would want the 900cc.

      Thanks! I have so many good memories in Florida! My 2019 Ryker has been pretty dang reliable. The one issue I had was related to the coolant resovoir and it was handled under warranty. I recommend extending the factory 1yr warranty to at-least 2 or 3 years and then you will be pretty well covered. Ground clearance has never been an issue on road, and I wouldn't really do more offroading than a dirt/gravel road on a Ryker. I look forward to sharing some videos of me doing some North Georgia riding soon. Thanks again and stay safe!
