so how do you get used to on line auctions? that doesn’t look very fun, I used to go to alot of auctions with my dad when I was younger and it was all physical, buy a bidder’s number and do your thing when it was time to
place your bid on the item you wanted, you could see the guy bidding against you, you might scratch your head and it get accidentally counted as a bid, 😂this computer stuff looks intimidating, and not very exciting, I’d have to learn it.

15:22 that front winch is for a whole meriad of things, recovering yourself when you get stuck, recovering sth else thats stuck, positioning suspended pieces, also you can lift up on flipped vehicles with your boom then gently turn it upright and lower it down with the boom as opposed to yank it upright have it slam the suspension and possibly destroy something but also fixing yourself to a structure or big tree when you use the crane like a winch to recover something heavy like a truck that went all the way down a hillside

It’s for dewatering usually you put a media like carbon or whatever you’re using(in the big black tank) to filter the water you’re moving! There’s a valve at the bottom with a screen and the water usually runs from that to bag filters and then to a drainage.

The winch on the front of that Grove crane serves a few different purposes -
    1. Loading/unloading, Due to the ridiculous weight differential, paired with solid axles/no suspension and hydraulic breaks that struggle under tap and go operation, winch crawling the machine onto your transport is the only way to go...You learn that after driving it up the first time, hitting the break pedal, hearing the million dollar whine of death and watching your crane boom become your uninvited passenger in the cab of your rig after the hydraulic brakes actuated 2 seconds late and underpowered due to low rpm hydraulic pressure.
    2. Static tethering - if you are in a position where you are on a vertical or lateral offset to your load, you can rig your winches (dual front and rear, never singular) in conjunction with your outriggers to oppose each other under tension to achieve proper anchoring. This is incredibly meticulous and not advisable. Plenty of TH-cam videos showing it going wrong.
As far as load control, you never want to have two solid state articulating lines controlling one load, it may seem like a great way to prevent twisting or swaying, but this causes the load to be under constant preload tension In one direction and can cause the straps/chains to point load in one very small area leading to snapping/stretching.

I have thought about using some, or some Jersey barriers (those concrete barricades they put between interstate highway Lanes) to make a foundation/first floor wall for a shop/barn. A number of farmers around here use them as silage pits. They stack them up and dump the green chop in there. They then cover it with plastic tarps and weigh them down with old tires or railroad ties.

    • @GreenJimll
      @GreenJimll 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@kevinbaker6168 In the UK scrap concrete railway sleepers (railroad ties for US folk) are often used for rough foundations. Also great for retaining walls on slopes, track ways across boggy ground and to use as front/back mountings for shipping containers (put two at the front and you get a nice step too). Has the advantage that if needed you can shift them single handed with a pinch bar (slow but I've done it myself).

"The price of trucks is just astronomical right now."
Tell me about it. When you're looking at the 2500 and up range, It's often cheaper to pick up a used one and fix it up than it is to buy a new one. Buyer beware though, when you're picking up a used truck, with the exception of liquidation sales, it's almost always somebody else's problem (pickups, especially), and you'll be spending some time either under the hood, or ripping apart the transmission to replace the clutch packs because people don't know what the gears are for.

(Posted by Rick Pickell) The only competition that Ritchie Bros. Auction equipment has in the department of being wallered and worn out. Is a street Walker on fourth street in Sioux City, IA. But they are at such a neck and neck in that. You are basically buying someone else's headache.

Bought a 5 ton box truck from Ritchie Bros. and got a paid receipt. Instead of releasing the truck to me, they took my property and relisted it on their website. Said they didn't get enough money the first time around. Called the police and reported my truck as stolen. Ritchie kind of changed their attitude after they got a call from the police.

They had a pile of those Dillon tankers at the Atlanta auction a few weeks ago. A lot of them went for less than 300 bucks. I do wish their timed auction was more like ebay and once it ran out of time, then that's it. Adding time to an item gets really nerve racking.

Since I had to quit work at 51, denied disability and was just too tired and too much pain to fight I did NOT get a lawyer. BIG MISTAKE. Ended up spending my life’s savings of 29.5 years of long, hard, stressful work and savings it’s all gone. Just this past July got on SS Retirement so no longer needing intermittent help from our two really good grown and mature children. So I too sit in the cheaper seats and like you are now I used to be able to do all forms of work in equipments but relative novice to diesel engines which just need timing, compression, fuel and air to run at least on the older pre-electronics units.

11:07 my guess is its a mobile boiler. Seen them used to run steam heat systems in buildings while the onsite boiler is getting serviced. Wonder if the tankers are from a company that went out of business, a few have shut down. Detroits are good for two things, wasting fuel and making noise.

One thing about the rad being in the front, if you happen to be working in the middle of winter in an open cab, for some unknown reason, you can turn the fan around so it blows hot air back towards the cab, we did that on a little D4 and it worked great while clearing old firebreaks

I would like to see you get two good 40 foot containers cut off one side on each and make a great work shop. Your excavator could be replaced if the price is right. But what the heck are you going to do with a school bus? Love your channel watch them all. Any gator rims at the auction?

Oh man, would have loved that Dingo. Just the right size for the jobs I want to get done. Of course, because it's small heavy equipment, it's always more expensive than large and older.

for 750 bucks? Set up septic in your shop area, hook that thing up to it and you never have to build a bathroom into your final shop. You can turn one of the toilet areas into a shower stall.

Back in the 1960s I drove a Case W9 loader on a new tube line project in London UK. My other mount was a Matbro Mastiff loader similar to the Case with the new seat. I was told by Matbro's mechanic that they invented the articulated steering system, then either sold the patent or leased it to Cat in the US. Anyway comparing the two machines the Matbro came out on top.
Later I drove an Allen Grove, Allen being a UK company in partnership with Grove from the US, Later Grove took the majority share and the name swapped to Grove Allen and the Grove. It was a 7 ton lattice jib lorry mounted crane. Fitted with twin drums for bucket or drag line work, the second drum was very handy for pulling loads into warehouse's etc use a snatch block that earnt me some nice tips.
