Normally I don’t like it when people talk a lot, but I sat here and listened to him. I really liked the intro to the tutorial. I think it’s cause he looks so comfortable. Lol can’t wait to try this
I made this afghan for my mother-in-law. This was also a big hit with the girls in the office. Very simple pattern to follow, with a beautiful result in the end. Thank you Mikey for doing this!
Thank you for this tutorial. You made a difficult looking pattern so easy to follow. I made a beautiful shawl from it and got hooked on using this type of yarn. I used Turkish Himalaya yarn.
Hi Mikey, love how you make even the difficult pattern so easy! Can you please do Bernat Catherine wheel crochet afghan tutorial? The colours are so autumn! It will be perfect for the season. Thank you.
One more question please,I am making a baby blanket and need the stitch count I fear the 97 is gonna be to large,so I need the stitch count and any suggestion on how many for a baby blanket for this size yarn, thanks again,Kim
i finally finished the big wheel afghan it went pretty quickly - as this was my first attempt it turn out a bit lumpy - but my next one should be better thanks Mike for your clear instructions
I really like the colors used for the blanket shown in the beginning of the video. Can you tell me what doorways they are and if its bernat baby blanket or just been at blanket that you used for it?
This is a beautiful blanket, thank u Mikey, I love your videos, I cud listen to u all day lol. This might be a stupid question but wud it look just as nice in one colour with sparkles????
Hi I was just wondering if you could maybe do a tutorial on how to put a border on the edges of this blanket I really want to hide the yarn I have along the edges
Hello, I wish you would do the Rose in Winter Afphgan tutorial. Its so beautiful and the pattern is a little hard but you make everything look so easy. Please consider making this beautiful Afphan. Or at least the Motif to it.
i am making this blanket using bernat blanket yarn colors are Coal (black) vanilla & silver steel (tri color) it is beautiful so far.... vanilla then coal then vanilla then silver steel then vanilla (repeat) definatley not gonna show this off for fear that someone will want one made for them.. even though i am sure my dogs will steal this one as well...lol
Mikey, Thank you so much for this tutorial! Out of all the others that I have watched you are by far the easiest to follow. I've crocheted since I was about 7 watching my Grandma Birdie. I have so much trouble following a long with written patterns that I wouldn't even try. I just have one question though. I'm making my Granddaughter a afgan with this plan, but one of the colors I picked I couldn't find in the same gauge as the other 2 colors. 2 of the colors are in 6 gauge while the 3 rd color is only 4 gauge. Do I still follow the pattern fatefully or should I double the strands and do two stitches in each loop?
Mikey! Thank you for always being so thorough in these. one question, are we always working on the back loops of each st? Thanks for the clear instructions though! I am going to get started now and make these as Christmas gifts for each of my husband's bros and sister's families. I appreciate the inspiration!! I wish I had the money to go to the conventions. Maybe one day :) - cheers from Utah, USA
+Nicole B (Nikki) You're very welcome. Mikey has a terrific tutorial on the Catherine Wheel (more than one, actually) which you should watch. It's the only way I ever could learn the stitch because written instructions just weren't working. I watched it, and then I got yarn and a hook and watched it and crocheted along. He's also got a Catherine Wheel with triple instead of double crochet, and another one where the wheels are touching instead of spaced out with the three single crochets.
A lot of questions about how to make this bigger and multiples. I figured it out that the chain is in multiples of 5 + 2. A tip on this since there are 7 dc's going into one loop to make the wheel is to put a marker in the 4th loop from the wheel so you don't lose your chain count.
It should also be noted that when you do your chain you should add about 10 inches more than the width you want because this pattern pulls the chain shorter. I wanted a 60 inch width and did a chain of 70 inches to get it to a total of 61.
Paradox1 you said in the earlier post the multiples are 5+2 however u said in the post right after that you chained 70 to get a 61 inch width??? Which is it, just multiples of 5 or are we suppose to add that 2??
hey mikey..are you going to also do the bernat blanket pattern on the back of that book you were looking at in the beginning of this video? I'd love it if you did as I really rely on your wonderful videos to help me understand a pattern :) it's a waves style one that has teal in it..
Hi I am doing 122 stitches next can do 142 stitches for adults will fit both under then working on your way up haw tall you want. Hope its helps and I am not wrong. Will start mine next week.
Catherine Wheel looks spectacular but it's mind-numbing to do a big project. There's no automatic pilot--you have to count every stitch as you go. On the other hand, it's so "busy" that it's pretty easy to cover up mistakes.
Iam afraid we don't have much of a big selection of wool in AUS.......I have found that you have to do what he said at the beginning of the video.....double up on the wool......happy crocheting
+Molly Mayor When in doubt, check online. I've found multiple sellers of this yarn just on Amazon, so it shouldn't be that hard to find. Plus, it's probably cheaper to buy offline in Australia than to buy it from a Michael's or whatnot in the US. (Or my local craft store is attempting to rip us all off.)
+raposa realm thank you so much for your reply , I am searching and have found it online can't remember the site but I did eventually find it . Thank you so much

Sorry Sherri... I get over 1000 messages directed at me daily. I have more people asking me questions than I can physically answer. Don’t know what’s going on because he usually is thorough. I understand rewinding the video but am noticing incomplete tutorials. Often I have to search other tutorials to complete project. This took me an 8 hour car ride to Myrtle Beach to complete. It was a Valentines Day gift to my love. She loved it.
That I s really unusual and beautiful. Thank you for being here for us!

Mikey, I thought this was going to be so hard. It's really easy and moves along quickly!
My first name is Catherine so I definitely need to do this one!!
I made this Afghan using the same colors. It's thick, warm, and beautifully LUSH! It's my favorite.
Thank you SO much for this tutorial. I usually don't have any trouble reading a pattern, but this one took me for a loop.
Thank you for showing me how to change colors and I love your videos!
I want that blanket that you said basicly could smother you. sounds so nice and warm lol

Not the back loops; that's only for the first row after the chaining run.

hi i want to make these for a baby bed its about 1.20x90cm please can you tell me how many stitches i must put to start? thanks a lot niki
Can iorder yarns from you? Because apparently there are no bulky yarns over here in my country
Is this yarn stretching as time pasin by? I like it a lot, but I'am afraid of stretch.

Does anyone have an idea of what type of border to crochet to hide the yarn on the side?
A shell stitch would be good and it would mimic the wheel stitch in 1/2's.
You made a weighted blanket before it’s time! 😉😂

How can i make it much bigger how many stitches i have to add if i wanted it 60inch not 50 ?
Frumos model. Multumesc! Trebuie sa mi cumpar ata.
cele mai bune urări pentru tine. - Best wishes to you.
How would you do the color change if using 3 colors?
Thanks
Thank you
I'd love to make a full blanket rather than afghan size for my husband for Christmas. In what increments do we need to add extra chains to do this?
Hi I am doing 122 stitches next can do 142 stitches for adults will fit both under then working on your way up haw tall you want. Hope its helps and I am not wrong. Will start mine next week.
hello wonderful video thank you.
Mikey! If I wanted to made wider would I ADD in sections of 10????
+sherry ordoyne I believe it was add 10 CH for each part...hope it works out
+trexStagemanager thanks
i would ❤️ to make this afghan for my 89 year old Aunt where can i find the pattern?
Hi Mikey, what are the chain multiples? I want to make it bigger.
5 + 2 but don't forget that you will need to make the chain longer than your desired finished length, about 10" longer.
So what about the sides? I'd like to see this done in a regular/ less bulky yarn. I'm trying it now but struggling with it a bit.
I have other tutorials for this same stitch. Review Catherine Wheel Stitch on our tutorials. It's the same stitch. I show it in regular yarn.
Catherine Wheel looks spectacular but it's mind-numbing to do a big project. There's no automatic pilot--you have to count every stitch as you go.
On the other hand, it's so "busy" that it's pretty easy to cover up mistakes.

really cool pattern - I'm struggling so much on the edges though :(
I have tried making this, I have followed the pattern and the video and it is all lumpy, is that supposed to happen? Is there anyway to fix this?
Hey I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Why is it that when you make the half circles on the side they stick out bad an make the edges uneven?!
I want to make this for a new born size and the color I want is in the small ball size,do you know how many balls I'd need to buy
I would say 3 10.5oz balls should suffice ;)
Hi, anybody figure out how to make a scarf with this pattern? Mickey I know you are busy but if you see this please help and thanks for sharing.
sorry with the chain two and do that chain two count as one stitch
Is there a diagram for this pattern. Thank you
How would I make this queen size
Does anyone know what the multiples are for this pattern so I can make it bigger
5 + 2
I am following the pattern but always end up with 2 extra chains at the end of the first row......help
so frustrating
muito lindos seus trabalhos parabens. bjs. deus te abençoe. saudaçoes das crocheteiras brasileiras.
Thank u
I'm doing this with the Sonoma color (multi) will that matter for the wheel look? Has anyone tried this?
I'll do a test patch, i can always frog it if it doesn't look right....
I'd like to try a multicolor yarn too. Did you have any luck? Or did the pattern just get lost?
I like the patern but within the weels there are gaps that looks weird , it looks like its missing a spoke . Maybe a chain 2 instead of 3 may look better .😉
Try what you think is best... nothing wrong with adding a bit of your own flare to make it work for you! :D
it fit's in a matrimonial bed ?
....
I can not find the written pattern. Just the items needed and a picture of the afghan. Where is the written pattern?
I went directly to the Michael's website and typed Bernat blanket and then clicked the projects option.
+Sherry Downs If I could I would attached the pattern but I hope this link helps www.michaels.com/bernat-blanket-big-wheel/B_50591.html
Hi there! Can this be done with a size bigger crochet hook? Has anyone tried it?
liza Caro Yes Liza. You can use whatever size hook you wish. Just remember that you are going to alter the size slightly though by doing so.
for some reason I cannot get the video to play all the way thru.
Can you make a shark blanket
Am I stupid, or does the "Get the free pattern at" link not work?
+Tracy Whittle Were you able to get the Pattern? Make sure you click on the link, then on the website scroll down to the pattern details and it says Pattern click on that. Hope that helps
