  • Since 2013, numerous NJ Transit locomotives and coaches have been sitting on the Garwood Industrial awaiting their fate. Two years later, the deadline dwindled down to 6 locomotives and 1 Comet IV cab car that was damaged in an incident with a bus. On October 10, 2015, NJ Transit sent out X4105 ( with GP40PH-2 4105 ) to retrieve what was left of the deadline to bring it back to the Meadowlands Maintenance Complex. Shown in the video we get X4105 flying east in the 8th notch with 4105 leading the way long hood foward and NJT Comet IV 5025, AMT F40PH-2CAT 4118, NJT GP40PH-2 4111, NJT F40PH-2CAT 4129, 4114, GP40PH-2 4107, and F40 4127. Enjoy

    I miss that horn and engine sound so much. Sound of my childhood.

    Due to the fact that (for years) NJT has had almost NO "responsible adult cost control" many of these units were lavished with rather heavy late-life maintenance and are in fairly-decent shape, they were just sidelined because some folks at the top *insisted* that they be replaced by newer equipment (a lot of which is not nearly as reliable as the stuff it replaced!)

    • @ThePeejRR
      @ThePeejRR 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NjTransit is also a purchasing agent. They sold almost all the F40s even though they were reliable and better just to get some extra scratch and fuck over the Raritan Valley Line.

    Perhaps one of the greatest catches of all time. I wonder what happened to the rest of the locomotives that were not rescued. And I also wonder what happened to the locomotives and equipment that made it to the MMC.

      Hi, no one is sure what happened to all of those locomotives, but I do know that 4118 and 4107 are sitting in the MMC for all of these years. No one knows when they're going to be released or if they're going to be released but for now they have a lifetime subscription and warranty next to the remaining ALP-44s.

    0:23 pause there to see the comet IV, where it used to trail, you can see the orange stripes and the windows that the conductor’s use on the Comet V. Good memories man.

      All the F40PH-2CATs in the lineup were eventually put on an equipment rescue along with a Comet IV cab car. The rescue known as NJTR X4105 lead by NJ Transit GP40PH-2B 4105. All equipment in the maneuver is stored at the MMC, but the location of the Arrows are unknown. Soon 4119 and 4120 will visit their family at the MMC..and possibly become friends with the ALP-44s that are forsaken on the Lackawanna Cutoff. 4119 and 4120 were not in the lineup and were the emergency backups that were eventually put back into service in 2018. All engines in the lineup will not be put back into revenue service.

  • @RaisedLetter
    @RaisedLetter 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome catch. That may be the end of the line for those units though.
    Either ways, does Garwood see a lot of people in the morning?
    It seems like the least needed station around since most of the areas are nothing but stores and plaza's. Not to mention the same buses serve Cranford and Westfield, it just doesn't seem like a useful station anymore.

    • @WATWAREHD
      @WATWAREHD  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Bigmindcreator AKA Elliot There's no service on weekends, and considering the platform is so small that you can only spot 1 car on it..it's not really needed it looks like.

    • @RaisedLetter
      @RaisedLetter 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll be honest. That was with one look at the station and I instantly had my doubts. And they went farther when I looked around on Streetview.

    • @RaisedLetter
      @RaisedLetter 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even still. Who even boards from there?
      They should redo the station and make it more like Mt Pleasant Station on MTA Harlem Line.

    • @MontclairBoontonLineRailfan
      @MontclairBoontonLineRailfan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, all units in the lineup will never serve NJ Transit's revenue service lines. Garwood was a bad place to store them for the time being because the station was an easy way to get to the siding where the deadline was because it was very close to the deadline.
