    I have just started to collect knives, about 1 year ago, and i found this video very very helpful. yes it may seem like basic info to the seasoned collector, but it is very very handy to the beginners/intermediates. tried this with one of my knives and it really does help a whole heck of a lot. the only difference is i used rem oil instead haha, and it worked beautifully

    I absolutely love the way the blade looks... I've never really been into knives that much but the way this knife looks and judging by it's (seemingly) fantastic build quality and attractive price, I might just get this and start getting into knives. Thank you for posting this video Jeff, I wouldn't've ever known the knife existed without this video.

    2 things i noticed from your outtakes vid thatll help alot if you do this a bunch. a spent 22 casing to keep the washers in place while you line up everything before you put the screws back in, and, polish those washers with that paper too, it makes it just a tiny bit smoother. great vid man. i always enjoy seeing what you throw on here.

    Awesome video! I just recently bought a Buck Vantage Force Pro, and it has kinda bad blade centering, but gets too stiff to use the flipper if you adjust the pivot screw enough to align it right.
    This might be the fix I was looking for!
    Thanks for the great video, as always, Jeff! :D

    Do you have any tips on how to improve the action / clean a Victorinox knife or any other knife that can’t be taken apart like one of these? I personally have a Swiss Champ and Classic that I want to clean but I find it difficult to clean in the crevices of the knife.

    Would you recommend doing the sanding/polishing on the pivot area of the liners on a Bugout? I just got a 535-3 but I don't want to ruin the liners or the blade play. Thanks!

    What about a knife that can't be taken apart? It's an older knife that's fixed with pins that can't be taken out. I've tried using silicone oil but it's still tough to open and close smoothly. The main problem is the lock back mechanism which is so tight, you either need to use both hands or pliers to get it pushed in far enough to be able to collapse the knife.

    • @ipunchsquirrels

      Only advice I know is to leave the knife in a half open position lo loosen the lock. May not be enough 🤷🏽‍♂️

    One of my Co-workers asked me to sharpen his knife the other day since i have gotten the reputation as "the knife guy" at work. It was as dull as the back side of a butter knife! ( Frost cutlery, and still had the factory edge on it ). after putting a shaving sharp edge on it, I got bored, so i took it apart, polished the inside of the frame, and the blade and the bronze bushings with my strop, with black and green. It went from a two hand opener, to almost as smooth as my benchmade 940 Osborne

    Next time try to find fine sandpaper about the same thickness as the washers, make Yourself washers from that and put it together with some oil. After opening about 50 times take apart, clean and put together with normal washers! Works better as You don't scratch the parts You don't need to. Nice vid.

    Question: you had the Flitz right there in the video, why did you not polish the pivot areas with it after smoothing them with the 1000 grit. Would not this have made the action that much smoothar?

    Nice vid. I also polished the washers(dont think you mentioned doing that) . I used a piece of leather with some compound and rub them on (used it on all the metal in the end). Removes very little metal, and polishes them up nicely,
    Far as the tools go i'd stay away from the Kobalt (lowes). They have not performed as well as the husky (home depot) screw drivers. Kobalts have broken much easier, never seated as well or been as comfortable.

    Service announcement: Be super careful with oiling framelocks. Even the slightest amount on the lockface can make your lock stick horribly and freak you out. I suggest oiling it when its disassembled and then removing the excess. You need very little.

    Neither Scharade (polished vs. the good factory one) have nearly the smoothness in the close. Is this due to the AXIS lock or the quality of the knife? Can liner locks drop that smoothly?

    • @nintendontbutdo5507
      @nintendontbutdo5507 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No they cant because of the detent rubbing the blade as it closes. Can be made smoother but will never drop like an axis lock knife does

    Auto Zone sells a fine grit assortment pack, in which you get a a little sheet of 1000, 1500, 2000 (you actually get two 2000 grit papers, I don't know why), and a 2500 grit paper. It cost like $3 if I remember correctly. Pair that with a strop, and you've got insane shaving edges, and/or smooth actions.

    I have had that knife an just like most folders with tephlon pivot bushings the plastic tephlon deforms and then knife has play that can't be tightened out do you know of any knives under $50 that have bronze pivot bushings or bearing pivot ( just metal instead of junkie plastic)
    can't find very much info online any suggestions PLEASE

    • @ScottieG59
      @ScottieG59 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nanchi often, I replace the cheap plastic bushings with Phosphor Bronze. I keep a supply of various sizes and a micrometer to ensure I use the right size and thickness. Occasionally, I find the surfaces are not truly parallel between the blade and liner sides. The plastic helps keep the sloppy fit functional. If I feel motivated enough, I will smooth the unevenness to allow the Phosphor Bronze bushings to work better. Otherwise, the blade will have uneven tension as it opens or closes. The plastic bushings gives enough to hide the uneven finish.
