      SOG Flash II. It took me quite a while to get that flick opening mastered, and my wrist muscles ached from practicing, but now it’s very easy. We can have switchblades legally her in Texas now, but I honestly don’t think they would be much faster.

      My favorite EDC folding knife is a Benchmade Mini Freek, which flicks open easily without the need to flap one's wing. My favorite EDC fixed blade knife is a Bark River Mini Fox River, but, even though the blade is not quite 3-in long, ist verboten if I wander into the nearby big city (unless I'm going to or from hunting or fishing).

    It's amazing, these people commenting with negative remarks, real macho men, I must say. I didn't know this technique, I've used others, but this as I followed, suddenly opened my knife and I just said, "Holy Sh***", lol.
    Now I can't stop doing it, totally great instruction and I've developed a small adjustment.
    As for the "macho guys", not everyone can carry a gun. Carrying one in the chamber does what when a real macho man gets to your gun first? Carrying knives with assisted openings are not legal in every state.
    But, you just can't fix stupid, can you. Take the video for what it is, to some it's got value, and if none for you and you want to talk about guns and other things, get yourself a youtube channel ya' dopes.

    With all due respect (and I mean that), this was a Spyderco commercial. There are the Emerson Wave knives (which I don't care for) but they open as they are drawn out of the pocket by design. The other option (my preference) for true EDC when fine motor skills may be limited is an assisted (not automatic). If my dominant hand is out of action, my off hand has no issue whatsoever opening it in a jam. Off hand opening is as important as off hand firing your firearm. This demo was about dominant hand opening only. Thanks!

    The Cold Steel Ti Lite has a quillion that catches on the corner of the pants pocket to help it open itself up. It’s fast and smooth and most people think it’s a switch blade but it is not. That’s my defense carry. My edc is the benchmade bugout or the griptillian. Depending on mood. Just got the bailout from a friend but it cannot replace the cold steel as my defense simply for that near instant draw.

They are great for if someone trys to steal ur gun or grabs your firearm hand and u can grab it when you need it. You just draw it from the sheath and slice and stab at the person till they let go and you can draw you pistol and use it if you absolutely have to. Kershaw with Emerson wave. Can't beat it. Or even a real emerson.

    • @zZKableZz
      @zZKableZz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @What's Up? I mean this is "tips to open your pocket knife faster". With emerson wave it is deployed as its being pulled out of your pocket. Regardless you still have to pull a fixed blade out if a sheath or something. Takes pretty much the same time to have the blade ready for combat.

    • @zZKableZz
      @zZKableZz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @What's Up? Your still evading the purpose of this video. Its about opening folding pocket knives. My comment was directed toward this video. And you can easily get a deeper purchase on an emerson wave knife. I have used it as my daily for well over a year know and have 0 issues drawing it grip ready.

    • @zZKableZz
      @zZKableZz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @What's Up? The Kershaw cqc6k is not a deep pocket carry knife. Lol. And it is super easy to get a good purchase on the knife and draw it grip ready. Just because you may not have the capability of doing so doesn't mean no one can. I do it literally almost every day at work with no issues. Don't be so closed minded that you cant accept any other possibilities of drawing a knife quickly.

    • @zZKableZz
      @zZKableZz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @What's Up? You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. Im sorry you appear to not be capable of doing such. But I am very capable of doing so. You don't know me, or how i work and manipulate my knives. I've learned and adapted ways of using it. Like I said, it has been my daily driver for well over a year now. I very much so know how to use it.

    • @zZKableZz
      @zZKableZz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is exactly what I do. I carry a CRKT Sangrador appendix, IWB specifically because I found that deploying even folding knife I was very familiar with became nearly impossible with someone grappling with me. Having a small dagger set aside for defense in a position where I can get to it with both hands makes it much easier for me to get to my knife in a up close and personal conflict.

    I carried a CRKT M21 with the flipper and thought it was very fast and efficient. Then I had a friend lock up with me in a clinch and grapple with me as I tried to get my knife out. What I found was that it took very little effort for him to make successful deployment nearly impossible. If someone is contesting your draw, a folding knife becomes very impractical, in my experience. I was very familiar with this knife. But with someone batting at my hand, grabbing my arm, and making me struggle to keep your balance, it became very difficult to get into action. I now carry a CRKT Sangrador, a 5.5 in double edged dagger, appendix, in a sheath I made with a heat gun and some PVC pipe riveted together. It has a simple steel clip zip tied to it and a piece of 550 cord with a loop on one end. I thread my belt through the loop and stick the knife IWB with the clip on my pants holding it in place. I can grab the knife with either hand, and then drawing it is as simple as yanking my elbow back. The sheath pulls from my pants, but the cordage catches it and pops the knife from the sheath. It ends up in retention position, already coiled and ready to go to work. Because it is double edged, I always have cutting edge and a nasty spear point facing out. It only takes gross motor skills to deploy, and is much hard to contest drawing this blade. I highly recommend people who intend to carry a knife for defense have someone grapple with them as they try to deploy their folder. This experience will probably convince you that a fixed blade is best for defense, where legal, of course. I keep a Leatherman for utility work and the dagger for defense. Consider that using a knife for defense is probably going to be at extremely up close and personal distances where you are going to be engaged with someone at arms reach and your draw is likely going to be contested. No folding knife, not even an automatic, is going to be as fast or easy to deploy as a fixed blade knife.

      Great comment I realize that they didn't touch up on this subject either you can move it and then on your free time like like your house you can loosen up your knife by repeating the process of opening your knife quickly you will also learn how to do it more efficiently basically like withdrawing from a holster plus it would help where the knife in where it opens easier

    Many Cold Steel knives are made to open as you draw them from your pocket. Before I retired I used to carry the Cold Steel Rajah III. I could open that knife as fast or maybe even faster, than a switchblade and I am not a very skilled person. You would simply catch the thumb stud on the corner of your pocket as you drew the knife and by the time the knife had cleared your pocket it was open.

      I was wondering when someone was going to talk about carrying a cold steel knife
      I prefer carrying either a talwar, rajah 2 or an espada because of the way they can be opened in flash

    Or you could just carry a push dagger horizontally near your belt buckle. I suggest it be a heavy duty Shiv or similar. Their guts are on the ground before they know what happened. Do not put your life on the line with a folder. Always carry a fixed blade knife. Always. Good for 4 footed animals, too.

    Usually really enjoy your videos and learn something. However, this is just a Spyderco commercial for knives using opening technology that's been around for over 50yrs.
    How about a video using actual assisted opening knives that don't need all the elbow/arm/hand contortions? My inexpensive SOG Flash II have been serving me well for many years with much less effort involved.
    Mr Janich is an expert with his knife of choice and makes using it look much easier than the average person will find to be the case.
    And to be clear, Spyderco are excellent knives in certain situations. I carried a blunt tip rescue model for years as part of my diving and also kayaking gear. I still have that knife. 👍

    I'm making the assumption that Spyderco is a sponsor. I have one Spyderco knife, a Tenacious, that I will NEVER use. I have it just so I have a Spyderco in my collection. But I don't even like Spyderco Knives. It would have been much better, to have a dozen different manufacturers products, that the technique illustrated will work on and demonstrate with all of them. The technique employed may be sound but it gives the impression that it is only or best suited to that one particular brand. If that was not considered, then I get back to my opening statement for the explanation.

    Great information as usual but the bigger picture needs to be getting the word out concerning the pistol brace and 80% lower comment period with the ATF. We are running out of time to let our voices be heard. All gun owners need to take a minute to make a comment and anyone with a platform that reaches thousands should be reminding everyone daily.

    With all due respect, great presentation of the information. And if you carry a spyderco, This may hold more relevance. My current EDC is a zt308, Which opens with authority every time using the flipper. I've always carried flipper Folders, so I guess I have mastered my defensive opening technique. This technique seems no faster to me.

      Fastest Knives to Deploy (arranged from fastest to slowest) :
      1. Fixed Blade
      2. Snag Draw Folder (also called a Wave Opener) opens itself as it's drawn
      3. OTF Knife
      4. Auto Knife/Switchblade
      5. Assisted Opening Flipper
      6. Manual Flipper
      7. Thumb Stud/Thumb Hole Opener
      8. Old School Traditional Jackknife (Case, Buck, etc).
