For some context: Oli Sykes (the singer) used to do a lot of really heavy screaming vocals but he didn't do them very healthily and combined with his addiction issues, it really blew his vocal chords. They changed up their vocals to include cleaner vocals to relax his voice a bit. Since then, he has learnt to scream more healthily. you should check out their old and new stuff to see the difference.
I was going to say the same thing. As talented as Oli is (He truly does have an amazing vocal range) he unfortunately damaged his vocal cords a few years ago. But fair play to Oli he has gradually gained some if not all of it back with careful care and eased back into thing. Well done Oli.... from myself and every BMTH fan that has supported you through that difficult time ❤❤❤❤❤
@@BethRoars Tell you, would love to see you look at "The Horrible Crowes - "Blood Loss" Live at the Trobadour Brian Fallen (of Gaslight Anthem and his own solo work) has a magical voice he showcases in that one song!
They have a song with Sigrid. The song is so different on their normal style but you can appreciate more Oli's voice. The song is called "Bad life" Also I recommend you "one day the only..." With Amy Lee... Is a vocal masterpiece!!
Hi Beth, I’ve just discovered your channel completely by accident. I don’t know anything about singing or vocal coaching but watching you analyse the different songs has opened up a new world to me. I started with your Smiths video and now I’m hooked. It is so interesting to re listen to the artists and have their qualities exposed. Things I would never have noticed about them. Thanks for your great work. I’m about to go on a long binge now 😅.
Thank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot to me! It's always been a passion of mine to help people understand the technical aspects of singing and songwriting, so I'm glad that my videos have been helpful to you. I hope you enjoy your binge and discover even more amazing artists and songs. Thank you for watching and for your support!
Absolutely entrancing and soothing. This just does justice to the original and even stands on its own.I'm addicted to Dark by October Ends. Your cover would be the cherry on top!

The thing I think you'd find interesting about Oli given the amount of healthy technique you showcase is that in his early days, his technique was notably dangerous. The leaps and strides he's made in his technique, particularly with regard to protecting his voice, are remarkable. I think you'd find it really compelling.
Goin off similar vibes you gotta check out stuff by The Plot in You and Landon Tewers. “Take Me Away” “My Old Ways” “Left Behind” “Feel Nothing” really anything they’ve put out in the last decade. Really impressive vocals
This song means so much to me emotionally. The lyrics are what I associate with my ex-gf cuz she filled a hole in my heart that was missing all my life, then we broke up and this song makes me constantly thinks of her, but I still love it
Mat Nichols is an incredibly talented & underrated drummer He’s grown through the years but he was a complete newbie to drums when they started the band.
I wanna see some sort of reaction to the clean vocals on Sempiternal. In the words of the band, Oli couldn't sing back then, and he started taking vocal lessons and really worked hard and it's insane to see how good he is now. To be clear the clean singing in Sempiternal wasn't BAD, but it wasn't very great either. Definitely suited the vibe of the album. But now he's an amazing singer, he worked so hard and you can hear it.
If they'd gone from there is a hell to the Sigrid Collab, or even any from the Amo album, they'd be done for now I think. I mean that album didn't go down too well with ALOT of OG fans anyway. But the fact that they went into it steadily, made it work. And he's not technically singing in Sempiternal. He's doing gritty harsh vocals. Don't think it was bad in the slightest. it was oli's 1at attempt at "clean" vocals and I think it's just how he should have sounded. And he still sings with that rasp. Yeah he's perfected it. But there's absolutely nothing at all wrong with how he sang in that album. I watched the Jordan interview, and I don't think he meant that he couldn't sing in the Sempiternal album. He will have had lessons before that. Probably had to have it cleaned up a bit. But he has gone all out to achieve these great vocals he has now. He can sing any style of music. Did you hear the dancey track he did a few weeks ago, after LosT? It was with slander and blackbear. Wish I could forget. It's pretty basic lyrically. But Oli kills it, sounds so much better than blackbear. He has way too much production on his voice imo.
@@carolinecoy3164 There's a few instances of them saying 'he couldn't sing'. Not to say he was bad at all, he did a fair bit of soft singing and then the melodic screams which were fire. It was more that softer stuff where he didn't really have much control over his voice. Either way it sounded fantastic for the album as it was. And to hear how far he's come now and the amount of control he has over his vocals is so cool. And no I didn't hear that, I'll have to go check it out!
love the ambient start too. sounds like a washed out sound of the band maybe w/o drums + ambient vocals--huge reverb sounding. just discovered your channel thru the avenged sevenfold reactions. +1 sub!
Oli is also from Yorkshire and we say NAA instead of now. But i can hear him say now for the most part. The album version is better. Although theybsound great live, i don't think this audio does it justice. Coukd you react to Don't Go. Its a very emotional ad powerful song Because oys a true story. It ft an artist called lights. Look into the story about Terry Hurst. He was in oli's class at school. Horrible what happened to him. Would bw interesting to hear what you have to say about his, almost crying at times vocals in this song. Thanx
Late to the party, but he's northern. I myself are from Wigan. We say things like 'Na' instead of 'now. Ere mate what you up ter na wanna go listen to some fuckin tunes'
Unless she specifically said it's a happy song at some point, I assume you are referring to when she was mentioning the angelic like chorus in the background being uplifting. In music, uplifting sounding instrumentation in a more melancholy or sad song isn't all that uncommon. They compliment each other nicely, especially here.
@@EkkosUwU alright professor Mozart! I’m well adverse in music theory. I was suggesting that this isn’t her usual deep dive into vocals/lyrics etc. I felt her reaction was lacking depth. I was uncertain of if she was aware of the lyrics. That’s all. Oh and it’s not a happy song….
