    Warren there is a kit to address this issue depending on the serial number, it's a bearing support kit and helps to prevent it from happening again. -A Kubota Engineer :)

    This is actually a very common problem for is here in south Africa with all tractors the front drive shaft coupler wears off very fast due to the pivot bushings wearing out

    That's why you're a great mechanic.
    You were certain that it was the 4-wheel drive clutch pack, and everyone would have gotten tunnel vision and went forward on splitting that tractor and taking it all apart.
    But you... decide to jack it up and do some more checking.

    Assuming tractors use book times like automobile mechanics. Someone with access to book times should start adding together all the book times for each model. The total book time for each model and being able to see that across brands would be interesting, that's the easiest way I can think of to create a "ease of repair" metric. Would be interesting to see this on passenger vehicles as well.

    I think the rear coupler is splined and the pin just keeps it from sliding off. But I think the forward couple is splined to the front diff, but smooth to the shaft. The pin is what locks the shaft and coupler together, and acts as a sheer pin.. If the front and rear coupler are different part number I think it would confirm this. So I think it just sheered the sheer pin. If the end of the shaft broke off, then it would have fallen out in your lap when you pulled off the coupler. Unless of course someone else has been in there ahead of you which is always possible.

  • @richardcranium5839

    dont take the loader off unless you have to. you could have used that to lift the front end off the front axle to get that shaft out. kubotas are good machines it they are taken care of. every one i ever worked on that broke was a filthy muddy mess that never seen a good service.

  • @jordandavid1671
    @jordandavid1671 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would agree with you that Kubota's design for their mfwd on all the entire lineup is the worst design. I've taken so many apart with low hours and the front drive shaft has either stripped the splines off the shaft or the pinion. Or the roll pin that holds the couplers between the multi-piece drive shaft has broke or worn out and allowed the couplers to slide off the splines. Horrible design. I still love Kubota for most other things. For sure the best small diesel engines by a landslide. Good luck.

    eager to see, had one with stripped drive spline coupler. and yep, strippers! I replaced both couplers, roll pins and the intermediate shaft and greased the dickens out of it, ours goes ummm swimming now and again and it all rusted out and failed. I think the couplers are soft. If it gets run in 4wd a lot, that small geared front end seems to throw a lot of metal into the oil.

    If the shaft was broke at the roll pin wouldn’t the stub still be there? It couldn’t fall out of the coupler could it? How much end play when everything is in place? Hard to say how long it was just grinding away on those splines

  • @jeffkomplin2052
    @jeffkomplin2052 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    hello one thing you can do if the customer doesn't want to spend the money on a new shaft is when you install the new coupler put it on so the pin is cross wise to the worn groove. then at least the end play of the shaft would be back in spec. But i'm probably telling you something you have already thought of.

    So you customer has left the bi-speed turn engaged all the time while running the loader on dry surfaces and one of the couplers has proven to be the weak link ? I am pretty sure the owners manual specifically advises against that, Sad because even without the bi-speed it turns much sharper than the European designs. BTW how about commenting on the difference between U-joints and bevel gears ? Please do them a favor and disable the bi-speed

  • @sherrytop2591

    Check the front axle pivot bushings for excess clearance and also too much end play forward and backward. Haven't had a problem with Kubota, but Massey/White/Agco have the same basic setup = no u-joints and splined couplers. If the front axle pivot bushings go too far they create alignment issues for the front driveline and take out the splines. Too much end paly and the splines get filed off as the axle moves fore and aft under torque. I've had to do a front axle crown & pinion because the splines wore off the pinion, that got expensive. Rather have softer splines in the couplers. Hate to tell you but Case MXM manual details cab removal and split tractor to do the MFWD clutch. The cost of progress as engineers get further and further removed from reality.

      Up to CUTs, Kubota is about the best one out there. A bit overrated and overpriced like JD, but still good one. Then you have these underrated Korean brands, like LS, Kioti and Branson, that offer lots of goodies for much less money than the other big two.

    Yup, it's just about typical. You take the wants and needs of the end user, a few design and ergo ideas from the design boys, toss in a hand full of regulatory bull from the government(s) in which you want to sell them in, then hand it all to the "engineers" to lay it all out. And this is what you end up with for the poor service guys that have to fix what's been "professionally engineered".. Great if your a dealership, but if your the end user trying to keep the ends meeting to be profitable, your paying through the nose for servicing.. Hang in there Warren, least you got Blake to help with the grunting... Cheers!

    The same idiot engineer designed one of our big broach machines. All others use belview washers to hold the clamps together and need apply hydraulic pressure to release. Thank God we got rid of that piece of junk a while back.

    They seem to have major issues at 1200 hours that others have at 6000 hours. 10000 hour half ass maintained deere have less repair cost. Lol

    Not impress with Kubota or other foreign MFG , USA tractor are more expensive but more durable as well , Nothing lasts for ever, and eventually all will have issues. Come to think of it I don't think there's a tractor under 120 HP made in USA .
