- Season 04, Episode 125: yoyo! in today's episode, we head up big cottonwood canyon to check out solitude for the first time since opening weekend! today was also the grand opening of the "new" eagle express six pack lift, so we started the day with a few laps there before working our way on the rest of the mountain. we even got to shred a lap with a few solitude locals! stoked!

Hey Lucas. Where will you be skiing this week? Family has a mountain collective and will be skiing Snowbasin Alta and the bird. Probably just pick each day based on best weather. Would love to take a lap or two with you.

Your skiing was amazing with Dan and Griffin. I'm impressed you can whip around the ARV 106 in a 188cm in tight steep terrain. I've owned those skis and it's no easy chore, but you make it look easy. Loving the editing and music. Happy holidays Lucas to you and your family!

The Headwall Forest run was fun to watch. I can get down those runs but I aspire to rip like y’all were in that area.
I’m picking up some armada arv 116 stoke elks tomorrow, keep seeing them in your videos and want a new pow ski. I’m excited to try them out.
Thanks you for taking us along on your ski adventures. I enjoy seeing the different resorts in the canyons.....however I think Snowbird is the best because of the amount of snow

Nice vid! Always enjoy Solitude....really cool terrain all over the place there. Have been a bunch of times with A LOT of snow so it's weird to see it so thin but overall, looks like a good time. Headed to SLC Jan 9th

I’ve been skiing at Snowmass for that past few days and despite not having too much snow in the past month, there is tons of powder because there are no crowds. Great video btw

Skiing is the best thing to do. the only bad thing about it ,is the expenses
It can definitely be expensive but there are ways to lessen it.
The down part that lift freaks me out too. I always hold onto the chair during that part the ride.

Parking is free after 1 pm for all vehicles any day of the week. Your parking receipt said 12:58 pm. If that is when you purchased it, bad timing. At least it is most likely deductible to some degree when you file your 2023 return. If you don't have one already, get a business credit credit card with no annual fee for your business expenses. That is an easy to way to keep track of expenses and you can earn some rewards too.
That is not when I purchased it. If you look at the stats at the end, I started recording around 10:37 so I likely parked around 930. I write off all of my expenses, like parking, so it’s not a big deal. And I also have a business cc and separate account for the llc that this is all ran through.

Agreed that going down during a lift ride is not great and our least fav for those of us who don’t like heights yet we enjoy it for skiing! What a fun day of skiing at Solitude and looking forward to the collab (?) w Aspen to come. Merry Christmas!
Haha definitely! It’s just one of those lifts that make my stomach drop. And me too! Haven’t been there since ‘21-22!

Do you ever use the safety bar? It’s mandatory here in the east. That lift that goes downhill a little id definitely want it.
I would say 80% of the people out here don’t use the bar. Just never really a thing my whole life. If someone wants to put it down, absolutely it will go down but for the most part, you get on the lift and no one says anything about the bar. Wildcat at Alta for example doesn’t even have a safety bar. Nor does chair 2 at snowqualmie.
Hey Lucas, I work at a bike and ski shop and was wondering what kind of maintenance you do to your gear. Do you do your own maintenance? How often do you wax your gear and what is your preferred wax?
Hey man. I don’t do any maintenance to my skis. I couldn’t tell you the last time I ever got my skis waxed or tuned.
So I heard a new term.. Chicken Heads.. Those are the little trees that are poking through the snow..
Snakes.. That is when you catch an edge.. For me it is when I am on flats and cat tracks..
Sharks.. Rocks..

Aww you found some friends.. I have friends to ski with later season.. It looks like that one guy has Salomon QST 106s.. Great skis.. I broke my arm on those skis and I was using the 187 length.. I think the length for me is 180..
I could have went to BRECK today (12-22-2023) but I went on 12-19-2023 and there was a ton of kids on the hill.. Grade school kids have 2 weeks off and college kids have a month off.. I was able to get an hour or so in before the hill was packed.. I will probably try to go once Christmas Week and then try to go Mon or Tue of New Years week to see how packed it gets.. They still don't have the top of the Mountain open so I am limited..
I also went on 12-19-2023 and the rock hard groomers were amazing.. My Enforcer 104 Free were good for those conditions but my Stormrider 88s were the perfect ski for that day.. I used those 88s on 12-22-2023 and the snow was too icy/slushy/sticky for those skis.. Also those skis have a minimum speed limit so when there are a ton of people it gets sketchy..
