HEY! I used to have one of those fishers :( They are by no means accurate or even mid-range but they are extremely efficient. 20-50 watts could give you tons of bass, although muddy, it's better than nothing.
You probably don't recall the model but those Fishers look just like the pair of DS 177's I found. In stock form, muddy bass and weak mids. But with new capacitors and insulation added in the cabinets, they sound much better.
They were DS-178. Everything about them was shitty. Thin boxes, no insulation, cheap muddy woofers, fake ports, papercone tweeters, and single capacitor as a crossover. They'd need a lot of work to become decent speakers and I don't even think it'd be worth it unless you really wanted to do it

That means you get big cabinets, separate and functional drivers, and a 12 inch woofer. Modern low end stuff? Tiny plastic cabinets with drivers the size of mini CD's and that crappy PC/Bluetooth speaker "bass" that not even the little subwoofer can compensate for. Those can't be changed. There isn't much you can do to make those better. But 80's low end stuff? I have the cost of new capacitors and a roll of the cheapest fiberglass insulation I could find, so maybe $30 put into them and I could probably turn around and sell them for twice that easily. Of course I'd always be open to getting something higher end...
