    Hey Robot! I don't know if you remember me on my old channel it was called ROCKYBEST88, this was a blast from the past. I was probably only 12-15 year old when I was collecting but I loved every minute of it...completely forgot about it until I went into my mums garage and found all my old collectibles, then went straight into watching all the TH-camrs I used to watch. Was very cool watching you talk about some of the pieces I remember you reviewing brand new all them years ago...hope all is well mate!

    again I must say very informative info for collectors to understand the who , what , why etc,, of collecting a passion first but a selective passion we all have our focus and we all get caught up in the hype sometimes but its also important to understand what your buying learning about diff materials no matter how bad you want something you need to make sure that its worth investing your time and money. Educating yourself can make a big difference as to what your collection consists of and the best way to educate is to learn from our own experiences and others, so thank you for sharing another great video , thumbs up!

      Renz I think on the whole my collection is doing ok, in the scheme of things 10 or so years is not that long, the real test will be 30-40 years onwards. Thank you.

    Missed you man! I would always watch your videos back in the day and even tried to model my collection and display after yours. You have great informative content and are just an overall awesome guy. I hope all is well and that I’ll get to see more from you in the future. Cheers mate.

    the things we go through as collectors.. i agree with u their basic function is just to sit there but unfortunately get ruined over time! i guess we can just keep it in the box? lol i guess that takes away the purpose... lovely video as always

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The_ Loot_GaMer Well that's the thing we want to display them, not keep them boxed up. They really should last at these prices. Cheers

    You made a very good point with that old childhood digger. Have one similar from my childhood that still looks exactly how I left it all those years ago.
    Any collectibles with a lot of rubber or foam pieces I tend to be hesitant about. Some of these pieces can cost a lot of money, you shouldn't have to worry about their shelf life.

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just want my collection last to last for at least my lifetime without having to worry about such things. Companies need to consider this when choosing certain materials.

    Some fantastic points here! Loving these videos brother! Thank you so much for sharing! I have to say having seen numerous chromed pieces over the years I would never purchase one or get a custom chrome paint added to any piece!! Mad love

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Geo Man Yeah it's such a shame, the paint really shouldn't be failing after a relatively short time, especially in such a protected environment. Cheers

    This is an excellent subject and obviously one that is always on the mind of all high end collectors. I have a number of latex pieces that do concern me over time as the lifespan of the material is finite unlike resin pieces which in theory should out last us. The quality of latex today versus the 70's is considerably better and is supposed to last a lifetime but really who knows if this is the case for sure? Silicone pieces cost 1,000's and the jury seems to still be out on that material as well.

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simmon Mohan I think you are pretty safe with silicone it's a very durable material. Cheers Simmon

    Evening Kevin, another great topic, your knocking them out of the park at the moment. I`m really sad to see what has happened to your Endo Bust. It was the first piece I bought that got me into collecting along with your channel and seeing that bubble is really disappointing. I`ve not had that problem but I do every 2 years put Mer car wax polish on mine to protect it aswell as buff it up gently.

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      CHRISBLU007 At this stage I'm tempted to sell it and maybe upgrade to the newer version with torso, then again where would I put it lol

    • @CHRISBLU007
      @CHRISBLU007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont blame you, just be aware the new version the teeth dont look as nice and are all in one solid mould. I saw it in the Forbidden Planet shop in the window in London but the torso does add alot more to the design which is very nice. Price is not to bad also compared to items out there. Let me know what you do.

    Great video! Try to make a pinhole in the Terminator bubble and inject a small amount of thin superglue with a syringe applicator and rub it till the glue holds. That should fix it.

    After watching this I immediately checked my Sideshow Endosskull (same combat version as yours) and thankfully mine is still perfect. However, some of the rubber grips on my master replicas Lightsabers have started going sticky

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah unfortunately some rubber components tend do this, fortunately mine are ok at the moment.

  • @chevy-is-a-good-boy
    @chevy-is-a-good-boy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is why I (especially) avoid mixed media collectibles. The quality of plastic and rubber has gone downhill across the board, whether it be toys/collectibles or the vehicle parked in your garage. There's a glut of companies making collectibles of just about everything one could want, and longevity just isn't part of the DNA.
    I think traditional statues cast in resin/Polystone etc are the safest bet. Many of the products produced by Hot Toys and the like, are little time-bombs that won't make it beyond a decade.

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      L.A. November 2019 I think certainly rubber type materials are more susceptible but I haven't noticed any problems with plastic yet.

      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm more surprised about the rubber tracks, I mean after 40+ years! If a £15 toy can go the distance then why can't these very expensive collectibles.

    • @LeShark75
      @LeShark75 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just on the subject of the collectables, I have the Sideshow Fertility Idol here and over time the gold finish has started to crack like a scale effect.. Its not completely obvious but a bit worrying. Thanks for the reply and great to see some new content again.

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a similar thing happen to my old Vader PF, it was like a crazing effect on the top of the base.

  • @KeatonCar89
    @KeatonCar89 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Most people rave these days about Phicen seamless bodies, I've dealt with just one of them and at the time was impressed... But still wonder about lifespan of the body rubber...

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think certain rubbers can be quite durable and as long as you are mindful of how and where you display them (away from heat and windows) they should hold up reasonably well.

    Excellent topic! Interesting thing I’ve got a few pieces that seem to be deteriorating just sitting there. For example, I’ve got the Man of Steel Hot Toys 1/6 figure that is suffering; some of its decorative details are peeling off the suit. Also, my Hot Wheels Elite Ghostbusters Ecto One 1/18 scale is literally breaking apart, the windshield just pop off the other day when I simply touch it to move it and that’s when I notice other pieces where falling off too. My Neca ET looks like drying out has this weird white film on certain parts of him. There are others, too, maybe I should follow suit with you and make a video of this wear and tear. Again, great topic!

      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Max Power Sorry to hear about your problems, I think with how much these cost they should last a lot longer, after all they are meant to be "collectibles" but if they are already falling apart....

    • @MaxPowerHouse23
      @MaxPowerHouse23 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RobotOnLine
      Thanks RobotOnLine! After your video it just made me think of the shelf life of these collectibles, granted some will likely outlive a person but to be left for another generation maybe not. Anyway, I’ve checked out your channel before and you do some real nice work.

    Oh is it possible like with the rubber. Leather or plastic piece to condition those area keep them from cracking..

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rui Pereira plastic is quite robust so you shouldn't have too many issues, leather you can buy creams for but nothing really for rubber.

    Good Video. What do you think has more issues.. mixed media statues or fully . Sculpted? Also at what temperature u keep that room in.. and does temperature play a part in shrinkage of pieces? Thanks for any info

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rui Pereira I'm not exactly sure what temperature the room is. If you can keep these things away from sunlight it helps.
      Mixed media can be more troublesome if they include rubber type materials. We are not too bad here in the UK but warmer climates and aircon can cause rubber to dry out.

  • @sparkstron73
    @sparkstron73 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Havnt had any problems with rubber bodies and own about 5 rocky/first blood ones.The rambo pinker coloured bodies seemed to be the ones that had the rotting issue.Ed209 old and new versions both have shrinkage problems and so have chris redfield gamora etc etc.
    Not on for the money charged.
    Shame about the endo paint bubble, would love to stiill get one of those busts, but thats off putting.Never seen that before though is it common?
    Think toys of the 70s and 80s must have used more expensive chemicals and were made to last.
    Saying that alot of the rubber action man scuba sets and rubber space ranger suits are prone to rotting so depends on humidity,stress, thickness of rubber and moisture content in the rubber or just pot luck.
    All you can do is what youre doing alrwady, but I know having stuff sealed in boxs or airtight cabinets can be damaging, as the plastics and rubber sweats, so keeping things away from radiators or damp areas can only help.

    • @RobotOnLine
      @RobotOnLine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sparks Tron I'm not aware that it's a common problem with the Endo so I guess I'm just unlucky. You made a good point about old toys using better materials, I'm guessing that newer toys are probably using more environmentally friendly and the downside is that they don't last as long. Cheers.

  • @hdaviator9181

    You should see where that Tonka truck was made. You won't find "made in China". That is why it has lasted so long.
