It's so rare in this day and age that i was a bit surprised, honestly ! ;-) Yes, the high ego, complete disregard for the opinions of others and low empathy are also things that i saw but did not mention in my previous post. He's one of those aspergers that definitely get certain advantages from it, in his scientific field. But on a human level, it's easy to see/feel that things are missing. For instance, sometimes, during his talks, he tries to have deeper considerations about our reality, the meaning of life, etc... where he basically tries to bring it all back to his niche. He deals with what he has, and since he's cut off from some basic human characteristics, he only ends up with his typical scientific intellectualization.

They need next and maybe next-squared generation hardware on these vehicles, along with a standard for car-to-car communication and safety systems. They're approximating reality within their virtual world, but heavily relying on human backup to make up for the data holes in their model. It will be a long time before a "self driving" car will be able to lock eyes with a real driver at a 4-way stop and figure out who goes first. L5 automation in controlled environments - even certain metro environments - will come in a reasonable timeframe. Open environments - real world environments - hahahahaha - let's just say it will be a while before real cars are shipped without steering wheels. Closed environments basically means eliminating virtually all unstructured interaction between machines and humans. There's already a name for that environment, it's called a train system, and as long as you stay within that system, it will work just fine. I think the propagation of self-driving will pretty much be an exercise of extending these controlled environments, rather than extending real self driving capabilities.

I think the propagation of self-driving will pretty much be an exercise of extending these controlled environments, rather than extending real self driving capabilities.
this is one of the most honest channels i've seen on youtube
I never clicked a video faster in my life. Keep it up Lex!
Bib necklace is
Same here
Hahaha. Me too.
FALSE!
The best Lex Fridman interview. Or am my saying this for the second time..
Two smart guys talking about something their both interested in, rarely a bad time. I hope good things come your way you guys
For being a younger person, Lex has some great interviewing skills, well beyond his years so to speak.
This was so much fun Lex, thanks for doing it! Get George back on for a part 2 soon?
this guy's mind is chaotically beautiful
There are these videos of Feyman which are like gold right now -- I figure if we knew, every waking moment of the mans life should have been catalogued. I'm inclined to think the same with George because 'the errors of a great mind are still more interesting than the discoveries of a mediocre mind' - this entire thing was like watching two thoroughbreds!
You two are really good to listen to. Different approach but both intelligent, down to earth, insightful, enthusiastic and very open minded.
Would love to hear more of you two in the future. I'm sure we will. Keep on the good work.
Thank you for this interview. This channel is soooooooooooooo underrated. You got a subscriber.
Damn Lex, I dont know any other podcast that comes even close to being as interesting as yours
I feel like George is what Eminem would be like if he was born in San Jose rather than Detroit.
lmao
Em wasn't born in Detroit
GeoHotz the GOAT.
From Jailbreaking iPhones to self driving AI, have a ton of respect for the dude.
George was an excellent guest, his occasional maniacal laughter had me going lol
This is by far the best interview done with g.hotz, salute 💯💯💯
This is nuts. Big ups for George. smooth all the way!
THanks so much for interviewing George Hotz . He is so inspiring.
'I want to build the AlphaGo of driving' - George Hotz, 2019
He said that he would have it done in 2016
@@jootai Was there even AlphaGo in 2016?
If you understanding what George was referring to you knew he was going to mention Alpha Go.
@@UnbenutzerKanalname Early 2016 is when it beat everyone, I was literally taking my first (and phenomenal and world changing) reinforcement learning class AS THEY PROVED E2E DEEP RL TO THE WORLD. It was exhilarating.
He also promised he will second Tesla only by two years.
This was really a great chat and George is way downer on earth then he likes to show. Max respect for you guys and all the best!
Another great interview. Thank you for all the hard work you put in to this!
This would have to be one of the best insights into the self-driving world coming. Thanks, Lex, great work on this interview. George, thanks for the laymen break down. Great works gents!
1:04 Do you think we're living in a simulation?
me: okay let's go grab some coffee
Glad I wasn't drinking coffee. Laughed so hard at this.
Not to be missed podcast brilliant... .... Any one vaguely interested in autonomous driving must watch. What an interview.... You got George to explain at a level that we mortals could just understand,, many thanjs.. Please get Musk and Hotz interviewed together on the subject of autonomous driving algorithms would be so cool 😎
Cleared everything to watch this one!
This was one of the most amazing talks I've ever come across!
"autonomous driving is a human behavior problem; understanding what other drivers are going to do" brilliant! great discussion!
These guys are a blast to listen too. Just subscribed. Looking forward to more about A.I., autonomous driving.
A.I. girlfriends 👀 now that's got my attention haha
Two of my favorite AI people. Can't wait to see what Hotz comes up with in the next few years. Dude is brilliant.
The last ten minutes of this podcast are mindblowing, scary as hell and kind of iconic.
Thanks Lex for another amazing episode with your precious time! It made me laugh several times watching you two both 10X engineers from completely opposite spectrum of personalities having an intelligent conversation. George is definitely an incredible genius. Please also get some more sleep Lex with all your hard work! Much appreciated!
I am not a coder or CS person. I am first to admit that I was not able to comprehend a good 20-30% of this podcast. Nonetheless, I think this video is truly a work of art.
I'm an old mathematician/programmer, it was very educational, thank you! Спасибо, было очень интересно!
Lex Fridman is the only youtuber to win my subscription so far.
George is dope, I am using his comma.ai devices for a vehicle diagnostic tool that I wrote, Muchiniwam.
I may watch this whole interview again soon. One of the best I have ever listened to. Also the lighting makes it look like it was done in the 80's and regarding the 2020's. Like an interview with Flynn from the original Tron movie.
I like how Lex always starts the conversation from the deepest and most complex question.
- What's the meaning of life?
- Do we live in a simulation?
...
Then the conversation gradually comes down to earth.
Such different people but so similar in some ways, it’s really indescribable to explain the type of talk these two have. Truly amazing!
I haven't seen this interview yet but I can bet my ass this is going to be dope as hell.
Would love a repeat of you interviewing Hotz Lex. You guys are great together this is vunderbar
You're a super good interviewer
This was my best acid youtube binges. 💙 how this guy just disses everyone on his podcasts with a straight face.. 😂😂
51:45 - He definitely watched Sentdex's GTA self driving car streams
Ryan fuck ya dude
GH is one of the very few people who should get paid for giving interview, this was so exciting and inspiring to watch.
25:55 Lex(about JS/PHP) : Cockroaches never die . [He nailed it.]
One of the most fascinating conversations I've listened to - for longer than I can remember...
Yes, from among the thousands of useless stuff we see everyday, I’m so extremely happy to watch this nugget of gold. Very thankful for this channel.
42:23 "Head is good." George Hotz
Amazing interview! Every aspect of it was professional and enjoyable. Thank you for sharing this! And keep up your great works!
"I'm happy you exist."
Nice way to end an interview.
Thank you
I just discovered your channel, really pleasant interview, I like that you're making your point, it makes the conversation spicier.
That was good! Hotz is such an interesting person.
Absolutely love how it started with a question about if we are living in a simulation.
I love how Lex always takes the more skeptical approach and on the other side of the table is George who's coming up with a plan to take over the car insurance and "Reinforcement Learning the world" 🤣
Lol amazingly nuanced framing and priming throughout. Smooth comrade.
“ I want to win self driving... I want to build the Alfago of driving” 58:30 lol, Way to go George!...
- I am thoroughly impressed with technical depth shared so far, and philosophy behind it.. Fascinating and spot on.. I do wish you stayed on board working with Tesla ( I guess there’s only room for 1 brilliant and eccentric chief per company 🙂 ) ,.. My bets are still on Tesla first.. but I was starting to think no one else knew what the hell they were doing. Good work, and good luck. I hope Elon heard your opinion on driver monitoring and rethinks it.. and when legacy car makers (who seem hopeless) start buying your Fsd system.. go big 👍
.. now back to the show
Tesla is a closed system, even when they worked with him it was on a contract basis. He's a hacker and breaker of monopolies, the antithesis of Tesla/Apple
How haven't i found this podcast till now? Love both you guys! keep grinding Lex
my wife touches the lane line hundreds of times. At times all 4 tires touch. Help!!!
I have seen about ten of your videos so far and this one is the top of the list for me. The discussion related to the problems of full self driving were fascinating. Thanks Lex!!!!
I love it when Lex at 1:31:49 is like: "Some percentage of your brain has a madman in it which is a good feature" lol
George: *maniacal laugh in the background* "I spent my life trying to figure out this problem"
Starting at 1:57:25 George is talking about what he means by "wanting to win in this world". He mentions Schmidhuber and one of his publicatons. Does anybody know which publication George is talking about?
F-ING GREAT interview!!! Thanksw to both of you!
One of the best interviews on this channel.
this guy is so smart, he literally appears almost dumb or childish
A lot of people said that about their experience talking to Albert Einstein
just fascinating having him at least seem comfortable with your Lex
TH-cam User this guy has a lack of social experience. All it is.
He thinks so much faster than he talks that the lag is filled up with quirks. Many highly intelligent people have similar characteristics
@@fazalali2894 It's probably something like that. By the way, check out the stories about Niels Bohr. He was a legit 200 IQ autist physician genius
Best interview I've seen this year.
Best episode yet. George needs to come back.
It's like Quentin Tarantino took the genius drug from Limitless.
😄
And cut his own hair in the high
Lex Fridman is the man!
Hahaha. I had that same thought while watching. Then you add that stare in the camera
Wow, what an amazing interview. Not sure I was ready for that last 10 minutes though...
Great conversation guys, thanks Lex for your awesome podcast
