Your two card turning videos have made more sense to me than any of the other videos I've watched. Thank you so much! You've found the points that other instructions just don't hit upon, and you've helped me so much.
Glad you like the videos. There's a new one coming soon! I've changed the Link to Linda Henderickson's video. It now appears on her website and it looks like she has a DVD out! I do, indeed have two colors in each of the pattern cards. They are beside each other, not diagonally across from each other. That is A and B holes have the same color and C and B holes have the same color. One color becomes the background color one one side and the pattern color on the other. Thanks for writing.
Linda Hendrikson has a great video out on how to thread all the cards at once. If you type her name into the TH-cam site it should be easy to find. I can't seem to get the link to post here. Linda is a forerunner in the card weaving field and an inspiration to card weavers everywhere.
@coriolinum: The twist issue is probably the best reason there is for using heddles. But that wouldn't be card weaving, would it? Some weavers tie the threads for each of the selvedge cards to a fishing swivel. I've found the tension is not as tight as I like that way so I don't use it. I just keep the selvedge card threads tied separately from the pack so I can undo and untwist them when the twist builds to an unworkable level. I've convinced myself that combing out threads is meditative.
@mustelidmama Breaking it down into single moves helps a lot, doesn't it? Once I understood WHAT and WHY everything needed to happen a certain way it clicked into place quite nicely. Now I want to learn Pickup!
Your How the Cards Turns videos are fabulous. Thanks for posting them. The link to Linda's video in your video description here has changed, it has been removed by her [I think she posted a better one]. Also, can you say in your video description what colors go in what holes? I'd like to try this. Thanks again.
@Inisfail82 well without a scheme is still difficult to me to get into the "zen" of double-face card weaving (but it happens with the normal way of card weaving! XD ). My next step will be the understanding of the 3- colours method. I sow Guntram's work and...aahhh...I'd like to get familiar with all the thecniques he uses. Have you ever done a 3-colour work?
Marni, totally new to card weaving but knew I wanted free control over the pattern. Cool ... you did it for me! But with the selvedge how to you resolve the twists that build up?
Ah HA! I was looking at a card-weaving pattern like it was a cross-stitch pattern, not realizing that each row is two turns, rather than one. I think I may now understand why my attempt at a missing-hole weave was just producing stripes rather than pebbles. Thank you!
What Do you use to string the scarfs like what string? I. Really need to know because I'm starting to card weave and I really want to know what you use
I am a beginner eagle Weaver and I just have a question I cannot why didn't why didn't you answer my question but my question is above your cards your thread do the twist when I turn my card my threads at the top or twisting and it doesn't let me go no farther what am I doing wrong
She uses crochet cotton. It's a number 10 weight, but as long as all the threads are the same weight it will be fine. You can get it at most Walmart stores but some of the colors are strange.
nö mach ich nicht The 'business ' ends of the loom easily move from board to board depending on how long my warp is. You can find better pictures of it at NellaBellaspot (dot) blogspot.ca Scroll down to the Sunday June 20, 2010 entry. The gear is from a loom I salvaged from a garage sale one but you can a whole website that designs them if you do a search. Oh, and use thin cardboard between layers of warp when you wind it on the feed reel. It makes it easier to keep tension. I only use the take up reel when I have to use a short board; like when I am traveling. A board just a little shorter then the warp is better. Hope this helps.
CeNadraz sigh. That is the heartbreak of card weaving. The twist that builds up has to either be combed out or worked out by turning the cards another direction. that's why a lot of patterns are 'xx' forward then 'xx' back. The twist builds up the most in the selvage because those cards only turn one direction.
what is selvedge used for , like why is it needed ? I'm new to dubble face so Iv not manage it yet, Iv not tried it so far couse I don't understand selvedge?
CeNadraz selvage is really just the edge of the weaving along its' length. Any number of threads can be designated for it depending in the width of your band. It looks nicer of the cards that hold the selvage threads all turn the same direction to make an uninterrupted design.. The pattern cards go turn directions to create the design. Hope that helps.
You're not doing anything wrong. The twisting is just something that happens. It's part of the process. Every once in a while You're going to have to put a big pin through all the cards (just in one corner) and then wrap a cord around them all so they Don't move or get mixed up. Then undo the end that's all tangled, untangle it and the it up again.

Even since I got to give this a try last summer I have been wanting to do this. This was a great video that was very clear! Thank you for posting it!

Really great video and very very clear for a new doble-face card weaver like me!!! Thank you sooo much!!

Thank you for this tutorial... it is great. Ive always wondered how the double face worked and you make it click for me now too!

@Inisfail82 Glad you liked it! Hope it speeds up the learning curve for you so you can get into the 'zen' of card weaving a.s.a.p!

Glad it helped! I'm working on more videos but they'll have to wait until the spring gardening is done. There's always something, isn't there? ;)

THANKS SOO MUCH! i really needed that because i like card weaving and i needed to know what to use cause im going shoping tommorow
@Pasadenabronco Glad you liked it!

Omg. Never in a million years could I do this!
I thought that at first too. it takes a concentration to learn but once that 'a ha!' moment hits you'll be fine. It's such a joy to do!

@rigidheddleweaving Looks like you have 2 green and 2 white in each of the pattern cards, is this correct?
@ladyarwynn Glad It helped!
Have fun!
Nice and Clear. Thanks

What loom are you using for this? It looks homemade and like it would not restrict the length of the band you weave.

You're welcome!
