I just saw your video, “I am Divorced.” I’m so very sorry dear 😢 You’ve helped me so much!! And I think you’re amazing 🥰 Love your Channel and will be watching. I am praying for you and your family sweetheart 🙏🙏
I want to thank you for your supportive and encouraging videos-they are helping me so much. Yesterday I went into our spare bedroom, also known as The Storage Room, armed with two large black bags and determination. I started filling the bags with things to donate-yes, all perfectly good items that I had spent money on-while literally saying out loud “things are meant to be USED” over and over. 😂 I’m going to do a brief Time Will Tell with both full bags but I will take them to the donation center soon. Thank you again for giving me the permission and support to finally say goodbye to these items.
#1 rule never toss Husband items. His closet side of over flowing. Him purge, no. I grouped same color shirts together. Grey, Blue, Black. Turned the hangers backwards. After 4 weeks. Moved one shirt from each color, hanger still backwards. Moved it to other side of his coats. After 6 months he commented that I threw his shirt away. Nope. They are right here and you haven’t been shirtless. Welcomed him to return the shirts to the other side. He didn’t. Then the shirts were in the donation bin - 18 shirts. Not placed by me.
I marked our closet rod at the halfway point. He can keep as much as can fit on his side. Love your idea though! I’ve just been hoping him seeing the ease of my closet and the breathing room my clothes have would be inspiring.
Were the shirts you moved ones that you know not to be worn often? I’m m just imagining if someone relocated my things, I’d be searching for it and wondering where it was. Obviously what you did here didn’t seem to bother him though and eventually he decluttered it himself. Congrats on that.
Love your videos. You have no idea how many times I have your voice telling me "permission to let it go" It's helped so much on my journey to declutter my home. Thanks for all you do.
I anxiously wait for new videos! You are a rockstar, thank you!!! My oldest now says when he moves out he wants to be a minimalist. He loves how efficient our home has become. I think my younger two will only remember a simplified home. ❤
Decluttering win last week -- I had "two" matching china cabinets that sat next to each other. They were always very helpful in storing wine glasses, serving dishes and platters, Xmas dishes, etc. I was really not happy with how they looked and wanted to downsize but avoided it as I knew I would have to make hard downsizing decisions. Finally cut all the "stuff" in half and donated a ton, AND then got rid of one of the entire china cabinets. Feels soooo good to have addressed a hard layer and to get rid of a major piece of furniture. After all, how many wine glasses does one really need? In counting, I still have about 24 in the remaining cabinet -- MORE than I will ever need at one time! Same with serving platters. I was able to move the remaining china cabinet to a more inconspicuous location and opened up a ton of room! Thanks for all your inspiring motivation, Dawn!
I'm embracing the 'every day is a special occasion' concept and am using all the 'special' things. If they get broken, that makes them easy to get rid of, and meannwhile we're using all the nicest things. My kids LOVE using the cut crystal glasses!
I absolutely love the feeling of decluttering and letting go. In the past, I have gotten too crazy with it and removed items from the home that I thought other family members were not using, but later found out they were hurt by my actions. So I try to encourage now by leading by example and offering gentle suggestions, but ultimately letting others make their own choices. I have had to work hard on not taking it personally or pushing too hard when others are resistant. ❤
I've been decluttering/organizing my house for months, I lack motivation most times. I'm really proud of myself for getting rid of 500lbs of crap to the dump and around 200lbs to donate. I love having less stuff, there's still more I realize along the way that I don't need. I wish I found you sooner! Started watching yesterday, probably watched 10 videos by now! Thank you so much for your advice and encouragement!
Thank you, Dawn. Your positive message and practical methods truly made a huge difference in my life. Even living with grief, now more opportunities open up since I am not managing (so many) things! Thank you!
Oh now you've inspired me! Have the paint, all needed supplies and still haven't started the bathroom or hallway! Kind of nice to think we'll both be doing it...body doubling from afar!
Thanks Dawn!! I body doubled during this video and I swapped my Tupperware shelves with my pots and pans shelves. I think the kitchen will function much better this way. Thank you so much for the motivation!!
Wow, I can really relate to loading your kid up with stuff when they leave home! I realized I had given my son way too much when he decided to move south with just what fit in his car....we took load after load to the thrift shop, plus multiple car loads to the dump, literally kicking furniture apart to fit in my trunk! I took home presents with tags still on them. His new apartment is minimal, light and cheerful, and I KNOW he is happier and more relaxed. Lesson learned!!
Really liked this longer format! Stopped on and off to to tasks but listened to the end! Resounding YES on restaurant kitchens! If you've ever worked opening or closing shifts you know exactly what the benefits of stream lining are! I also wanted to mention that us "baby boomers" were likely raised by "depression babies" who passed on their scarcity mindset on to us. I moved past that decades ago and it was a challenge to get those messages out of my head, though some proved very practical and useful to this day. I say declutter those messages, keep what works and toss the rest! Fabulous presentation today Dawn and I really appreciated where you gave us environmentalists permission to literally just bag it, get it out of your life, and move on! We can always do better as we move forward with a mind that is refreshed!
Dawn, thank you for opening up your heart & sharing such hard / emotional news. I'm so sorry to hear that you 2 split, that's a real bummer 😢! So sorry, Dawn 💔. I'll be praying for you both & the family!
Hi Dawn, love all your videos and podcasts, thanks for being you so down to earth and relatable, I’m almost 71, widowed and moving into an apartment for the first time in over 50 years, please prayers. Have been decluttering since I found you, Cass and Dana. For the single sink use an over the sink hanging rack, there are lots of sizes and store under the sink when not using
Sharpies for the win! When I go to Costco and get bulk foods, duplicates go in the basement. I write on everything, either ‘more in basement’ or ‘buy more’ on things so I remember when I NEED more or when I just need to walk to the basement
This is super smart! Especially when notating for husbands, etc. we have downstairs and upstairs bathroom closets and I have extra shampoo in both spots in case of guests, but we only shower upstairs and are more likely to need it there.
I enjoyed the section with your brother!! He works all hours, just hasn't got around to a clear out. And his lovely sister helped him out 😊 all the best, from the UK 🇬🇧🏴
I simplified my kitchen this year, and it's just SO much easier - in EVERY way.... I got rid of two shelves of cookbooks that I never use anymore, 1/2 my plates, 1/2 my mugs, LOTS of randomness and excess.. Although I like to bake, because nothing was together and easy to assemble, baking was a chore and cleaning up was a chore... Now, all the baking and spices are in one big cabinet. I SEE what I have. I'm not buying duplicates. I know where to find everything and more importantly, where it goes when I'm done..... Thank you for the inspiration, Dawn!
I had 4 cookbooks. Only used a handful of recipes. I cut those pages out and put em in a slim binder. Only regret: forgot to keep fave Cole slaw recipe. Guess what: I wanted to take Cole slaw to a gathering... So I bought 2 larges from KFC. I BOUGHT MYSELF AN HOUR OF me time!
1:15:47 So wonderful to see the continued joy you get from decluttering and organizing! People who don’t like to organize should declutter, declutter, declutter first. Then you barely have to organize or organizing becomes soooo much easier. “Oh baby, we are winning.” 😂❤ 1:15:56 ❤️❤️ Thanks for the video!
I just decluttered most of the house, just my son’s room and conservatory to go! Once my husband saw how lovely everything was he immediately started on his wardrobe and things! We had 2 bags for donation and a bag of trash! It’s contagious once you start because now my son is wanting to do his room at the weekend 😮 he is 16 so I don’t feel it’s appropriate for me to do that so I’m pleased he is willing to! My husband and myself will be doing the conservatory at the weekend because it’s becoming a dumping ground over the last year! I was delighted how quickly this year’s declutter went after having done it the same time last year! I’m planning on doing it again in 6 months this time and I think then I will have cupboards and drawers and wardrobes down to 50% full and I’m so happy with that and will be easily able to maintain it 😊
The best thing about donating… I love the apple peeler and use mine all the time. I would love to snag one at thrift store prices for my adult daughter. Keep donating things you don’t use!
You've inspired me once again. I promoted facial cleaning supplies I don't like for my face into hand care products. Creamy moisturizing cleanser promoted to hand soap, and facial moisturizer became hand cream. I also decanted a hand scrub that was a fight to get out of the bottle into a jar so I am using it more
I do the same thing with products because a moisturizer is a moisturizer and soap is soap. I also use moisturizer/lotion on the ends of my hair and as a smoothing cream to smooth out frizz for hair styling. Also olive oil to cleanse my face and remove makeup or lotion if I’m temporarily out of oil. I use lanolin nipple cream I got for free from the hospital as a chapstick it’s the best chapstick I’ve used!
My husband and I are on a break from doing a declutter of his office. I just saw your video. We used a heavy duty black trash bag that needed the two of us to carry to the trash bin. We are fellow Minnesotans and making the most of an indoor day on this super cold Minnesota January day. We have a very small home and so it feels good to say bye bye to stuff we don't use or just in case items. Thank you.
Dawn I just love your smile and laughter! It’s so genuine.❤. Also love your channel thank you for helping us make our living spaces more comfortable and a happy place be! I love hearing you while I work on decluttering my home.
Yay, a Dawn video! I'm keeping a fall/winter perfume and a spring/summer. I buy them small, in season and try to use them up in six months. I don't intend to repeat the process of decluttering expensive perfume ever again.
You tip on limiting pots and pans to number of burners plus one was a game changer for me!! Baolitley no regrets. I also kept one larger cast iron on. So much easier!!!!
Thank you for all your help over the years! Praying that you, your husband, and children have a wonderful New Year and that God blesses everything you do!!
I'm glad you're not apologetic about throwing things away. I hate it when influencers are careful to appease their audience by being careful to explain how they are being responsible with decluttering...donating and recycling. Whether they do or don't...who really knows anyway? I appreciate that you see the need to stop the overwhelm of clutter as an emergency. I feel it's an honest approach.
Listened with appreciation!!! As I decluttered my home. Headphones in. And around 1:27:00 I started cracking up out loud. Thank you dawn. And when you said, "if you are not useful to me, you're dead to me, you're clutter!" 😆 👏
I came to the realization recently that it's OK if i run out of something. As costco-trained Americans i think we are scandalized to think we may not have something we need- especially if we may not have cash to buy it before the next paycheck. But really, if it turns out I ran out of something, i can figure something else out or do without for a little while. It will really be OK.
Omg! I didn't know about the time after opening icon. I'm throwing stuff away that I know has been opened for way over the recommended time. Thankyou Dawn.
for weeks, i kept seeing people rave about the book Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane in the comments of different videos. it felt like every time i scrolled, someone was talking about how it changed their life. i finally gave in and read it, and honestly, i’m glad i did. it’s not just hype-it’s a practical guide to shifting your mindset and energy in a way that actually works. i’ve already noticed small changes in my life, and it’s making me rethink how i approach everything. now i get why so many people couldn’t stop talking about it.
I have used my Pampered Chef apple/peeler/corer/slicer for years. I don’t use it often, but it’s handy when you want to throw slices in the dehydrator or are making a breakfast casserole. It’s quirky and fun-I don’t like slicing anything! Haha
Prompted by having plumbing issues fixed, this week I pulled out everything under my 3 sinks. Then after fixes done and putting contact paper to line the bottoms, I only put back the items we use everyday and a spare of each! Combined 3 extra liquid soaps into one. Tossed the extra containers Looks so good now. The weekly used and other items stayed in the bin and will be in the basement, and in a month and will toss the excess! Talk about a dose of dopamine, I love the results! I was thinking… I know what a dangerous move lol….making a rule to declutter an area before you buy what’s in your cart would help many people avoid overbuying!
My mom and dad were moving into a new home in another state. While packing, my dad, came across some make up he had confiscated from me at the age of 13. He politely asked me if I wanted it back...I was 47 at the time🤯
I love putting an open date on my cosmetics and more importantly my kids cosmetics (i put their initials too so no arguments about who stole whose). I can't tell you how many old chapsticks i find *everywhere*!
Love the Corell dinner bowls and they do come in two sizes! When we upgraded after 15+ years to these and love the compact space they provide compared to my old chipped and incomplete ceramic heavy set. The bowls are great for pasta night and Budda bowls.
About throwing stuff away in landfills: For me, I threw a few black trash bags’ worth of stuff away that maybe could have been recycled or payed forward, but I didn’t have the bandwidth to deal with those items at the time. BUT, because that felt yucky, it makes me so much more aware of what I bring into my home now. In the long run, throwing that stuff away in the past is helping me evaluate my consumerism now. Going forward, I buy less, so I don’t have as much to throw away now and in the future. If I hadn’t given myself permission to throw that stuff away, my progress would have been stalled, and I wouldn’t be where I am now in my minimalist journey. Dawn, thanks for helping me give myself permission to throw good things away from time to time so I don’t stall out.
For hand washing dishes in a single sink a dish pan works well with a drainer on the side - the trick is to wash dishes often so there aren’t many dirty at the same time.
I cut cut up Christmas cards into gift tags for next year. Use a hole punch and add recycled ribbon. Kids like doing this or do while you have your coffee
I put Christmas cards in a basket and pray for person who sent them and each day I move the card to the back and pray for the next person. That way I remember them throughout the year. Toss them after Thanksgiving and start again as the new year's cards start.
We have those generic corelle from ikea pretty affordable and I never worried if it breaks when my girls (8&12yrs old) doing dishes. Easy to clean &put it up👍🏽
I got rid of my robo vac because I hated that it had to charge sitting on the floor behind a chair. And since it always needed babysitting as it'd get hung up on things, that made the decision to get rid of it a lot easier. I got a cordless vacuum instead which gets the job done faster and can be stored on a hook in the closet. Keep those floors clear!! :)
Absolutely, we put lids on our reusable containers. It saves us time in the kitchen from having to do an extra task looking for correct size lids. A big game changer for us. Thanks for your helpful videos.
I have been on the decluttering journey for years, but still own things that I never use. You have just given my permission to get rid of my 50+ yr old Betty Crocker ring bound cookbook that is falling apart and not touched since I discovered the internet! I also have three overstuffed recipe boxes that were my mother’s. I’m 77, I don’t do that much cooking, and neither do my grown daughters…..Definitely black trash bag bound. I’m sure there are other things in my storage/clothes closet that I have not looked at in years that can join it. With that said, then there are the fantasy self things, I bought a food processor when I retired, used it twice, but struggle with letting it go. Working on that! So you know, thanks to you, my pantry, kitchen cabinets and counters are pintrest worthy, and so easy to maintain. 😊 I have a small set of white Correll plates and bowls and love them.
A.LL your videos are wonderful and you've completely inspired me! There is one extra category for people who live outside the US. "Time will Tell" has a subcategory (I guess you could call it), which is how long it took to ship the item to me in the first place. It's maybe I a special "just in case" sort of thing. Ordering it again could take months. This is especially true for me when it comes to fabric or other unique sorts of things from the US and sometimes western Europe. You are great -- don't ever stop!! paula
Was not able to watch the day this was posted but funny enough before watching this i got "the bug" to organize the bath simply because i was already cleaning it and had the few extra minutes to straight and declutter it. Felt so good and accomplished after.
Bread can be kept in the freezer :) We have been buying bread and baking for years now and always kept it in the freezer. Then we just pull what we need and it goes frozen in the toaster/george foreman and comes out perfect!😊
My daughter just created her own time will tell bin while we listened to this and worked around the house today! This body doubling is tripling in this house today!
Instead of contact paper especially for rentals, you can use hard plastic placements (cut to size if need be). Also nice to take out to clean. Works great in drawers too.
I absolutely loved listening and decluttering along side today! I managed to purge TWO trash bags full of expired makeup, skin care, and hair care products! I am embarrassed to admit I still have a long way to go. 😢 I am really interested in your Membership group and working up the courage to click "Join now". I am confident I would benefit and I am talking myself out of it at the same time.
I am really loving the benefits I'm already seeing from simplifying my kitchen. I made homemade yogurt in the IP for the first time ever (had the IP for eons lol) & i even had the bandwidth to have my kids join in the process. Right now I'm focusing on getting my zones better defined & assessing the prime real estate better. We had the kitchen remodeled, so still figuring out where I want & use it all ❤
I use cupboard riser shelves to use vertical space - I keep my Corelle and hang my coffee cups from my favorite shelf with mug hooks. I also keep 2 flat platters right above my Corelle. I love being able to have all my things within my reach - I’m short LOL
Love watching this Dawn. Had you thought of putting the baking sheets, roasting tin etc in the drawer under the oven? Works for me and frees up cupboard space in my limited kitchen
I have held onto a bag of stuff to take to donate. Just realized most of it can go in the garbage. Not sure why I even thought to donate some of it. Will donate the other stuff, but my goodness, your video really gets me thinking.
BTW, your Mom going to a "stamping thing" reminds me to enjoy invites to crafting. I have been looking at mosaics and stained glass for pots. I just rewatched one of your gardening clips and would LOVE to see your parents farm in action this year!!! Many good things ahead! Thanks for sharing! I have Spring on the brain and all those things we can do outdoors too!!!
I decluttered the guest bedroom listening to this! Amazingly helpful! 😊stuff I will never wear again. And who need 5 winter coats? Apparently me! 😂❤God bless
I write the "opened date" on food that is not completely used immediately. Condiments, sauces, boxed dried goods, etc. There's only 2 of us in our home and we don't go through certain things very quickly so is helpful to know when I opened something, e.g. mayonnaise, instead of relying on the expiration date on the product itself.
Dawn, I just watched your divorce video. I am so, so sorry and so grateful that you have supportive people--and your faith--to help you through it. Please know that we love you, too, and we're praying for you. Every blessing, Susanne
1:23:13 Sarah: fight the urge to deep clean by doing a quick sweep or wipe down ONLY. Concentrate on decluttering FIRST at that point and once you’re done for that area, if you still have the capacity, THEN deep clean. The worse is if you try to clean and then get pulled away or get tired and everything is everywhere and you never got to declutter. (Check out Decluttering at the Speed of Life book) Dawn is right, after you declutter, you can clean anytime and it is so much easier to clean. Once you declutter, you get to enjoy that quicker cleaning session every time.
Nail polish has dates too but I use them indefinitely. I have a thinner if needed but mine rarely dry up like older polish from 80's. Better formulas now.
Hi Dawn, enjoying this super long video at your mom’s house, I see that me as well not too sure about the open shelves, however I think if you group like colors together for example the pink items make three of them and the mint green plate and the green tea pot and another green or white item another three and display them where they flow together and then eliminate what doesn’t go and is not a set then will be more settling to the eyes, have a super nice weekend!!!

1:15:47 So wonderful to see the continued joy you get from decluttering and organizing!
People who don’t like to organize should declutter, declutter, declutter first. Then you barely have to organize or organizing becomes soooo much easier. “Oh baby, we are winning.” 😂❤ 1:15:56 ❤️❤️
Thanks for the video!
Thank you for another 2 hour video. I have listened to the other one approx 8 times. I have a two hour drive twice a week so I listen to you!!!🎉🎉🎉
I just decluttered most of the house, just my son’s room and conservatory to go!
I’m planning on doing it again in 6 months this time and I think then I will have cupboards and drawers and wardrobes down to 50% full and I’m so happy with that and will be easily able to maintain it 😊
The best thing about donating…
I love the apple peeler and use mine all the time.
Your brother is great! Kudos to him to being brave and, honest and funny
Thank you.
I'm originally from Minnesota. We're in the deep freeze here in Missouri too.
From ND and woke up to -46 windchill!! Good day to declutter with Dawn. ❤
Dawn I just love your smile and laughter! It’s so genuine.❤. Also love your channel thank you for helping us make our living spaces more comfortable and a happy place be! I love hearing you while I work on decluttering my home.
Dawn, your energy is so good & I really appreciate your enthusiasm, really working on Decluttering ❤
Yay, a Dawn video! I'm keeping a fall/winter perfume and a spring/summer. I buy them small, in season and try to use them up in six months. I don't intend to repeat the process of decluttering expensive perfume ever again.
Wishing you the best. May you be surrounded by love during this season.
Everyone in your family is so sweet!!
You tip on limiting pots and pans to number of burners plus one was a game changer for me!! Baolitley no regrets. I also kept one larger cast iron on. So much easier!!!!
Such a sweet brother. 🥰
Thank you dawn love your videos. Keep up good work making content to help others.
Your brother is so great!!❤
I came to the realization recently that it's OK if i run out of something. As costco-trained Americans i think we are scandalized to think we may not have something we need- especially if we may not have cash to buy it before the next paycheck. But really, if it turns out I ran out of something, i can figure something else out or do without for a little while. It will really be OK.
I’m commenting b4 I even watch this 😂 I’m stuck in the house with -5 degree weather, so this will be super helpful
I adore your brother, you're such an awesome family. Thanks for the continued inspo and motivation watching from the UK
I LOVE when you say, "Meh, they'll be fine." About your future self. I lol'ed! Thanks for the mega video! We love you too!! ❤
Haha
"My goal is never to embarrass my sister" 🤣🤣 yeah right, said no brother ever. Great video Dawn!
Five minutes matters...
has made my home gone from...omg, don't answer the door, to how cool I have company ! Thank you Dawn 🙏
Thank you Dawn! You are such an encouragement!❤
He politely asked me if I wanted it back...I was 47 at the time🤯
😂😂😂
that is kind of sweet 😀
Hilarious! And heartwarming ☺️
I have declutterred a lot over the years, but I worked along with you in the bathroom, and I found some items.❤
I cut cut up Christmas cards into gift tags for next year. Use a hole punch and add recycled ribbon. Kids like doing this or do while you have your coffee
That’s such a good idea!
I put Christmas cards in a basket and pray for person who sent them and each day I move the card to the back and pray for the next person. That way I remember them throughout the year. Toss them after Thanksgiving and start again as the new year's cards start.
Love your thoughts on "should" and being "behind." So helpful.
We love you Dawn. Stay strong. x
You are great -- don't ever stop!! paula
I live in a place inside the US where it is difficult to get supplies and I have this same subcategory
Was not able to watch the day this was posted but funny enough before watching this i got "the bug" to organize the bath simply because i was already cleaning it and had the few extra minutes to straight and declutter it. Felt so good and accomplished after.
Im still decluttering. But it's slowly looking a bit better each day. Takes time around family duties and everyones stuff.
I just love how your brother participating this ❤
Instead of contact paper especially for rentals, you can use hard plastic placements (cut to size if need be). Also nice to take out to clean. Works great in drawers too.
When I got them cheaply I used self stick vinyl tiles to line cabinets under sinks.
I use to always use Clinique as well :)
I also like working best when everyone is out of the house! :) Way to go Dawn!!
You are loved!!❤
I absolutely loved listening and decluttering along side today! I managed to purge TWO trash bags full of expired makeup, skin care, and hair care products! I am embarrassed to admit I still have a long way to go. 😢
I am really interested in your Membership group and working up the courage to click "Join now".
We had the kitchen remodeled, so still figuring out where I want & use it all ❤
I am so not surprised 🎉🎉🎉 the whole family is FANTASTIC 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Praying for your parents as this change is happening to them. I'm sure you will be considerate of their feelings and wishes, but don't forget ❤️
Exactly what I do. But not all ovens have this drawer believe it or not. I once had an oven where that drawer is where the broiler was.
Oh Dawn, listening to this after your video about you and Tom. So so much makes sense! You seem lifted 😊xxx
Hi Dawn! I'd love to hear your opinion/thoughts on Project Pan 2025. Love your videos, they helped me let go of so much!❤️
I decluttered the guest bedroom listening to this! Amazingly helpful! 😊stuff I will never wear again. And who need 5 winter coats? Apparently me! 😂❤God bless
I'm looking forward to bin day mine are full, absolutely loving making my life easier, feeling 5 momentum is on 🎉
Your brother is awesome. Funny and seems like a really nice guy.
I do the same!
Dawn, I just watched your divorce video. I am so, so sorry and so grateful that you have supportive people--and your faith--to help you through it. Please know that we love you, too, and we're praying for you. Every blessing, Susanne
Your hair and makeup look amazing!🎉❤. And jewelry too! 😊
(Check out Decluttering at the Speed of Life book)
Dawn is right, after you declutter, you can clean anytime and it is so much easier to clean. Once you declutter, you get to enjoy that quicker cleaning session every time.
You can use perfumes you don’t use to spray in toilet or to spray on bugs. Can use soaps/shampoos you don’t like to clean floors, car, etc.
That's what I do too! You can use any soap like shampoo to clean the toilet or sink.
You guys are too funny 😂. Love your videos. You've helped me get down to business and stop keeping things for - ever!
Love watching your videos and love your advice ❤
