I'm 200 away from expert 2 and it's starting to irk me whenever I get 2nd place and a +1..
Know how to stabilize your mental.
What worked for me is to remind myself that it’s always better than a 3rd place. (Costing me another 1st place to just recover)
Sometimes if I lost by 200 points, at least it was an exciting game and enjoyed it.
If it really put me off, then sometimes just walk away and don’t play.
Above are just what work for me, and might not work for you.
You need to find what works best for you. (Tyler1, just grind even more lol)
This still holds true to any game where you try to climb rankings (league, valorant, cs go, etc.)

When you count all gains and losses together, those points from 2nd place are quite important. Imagine an Expert 3 with 35% 1st place rate (50000 average) and 26% 3rd place rate (20000 average). Per one game, one gets 0.35 * (+135) = 47.25 from 1st and 0.26 * (-150) = --39 from 3rd. That's +8.25 points per game total. In this case, 1000 points difference changes your rating climb rate by 12%.
What about master in 4player? Would love to see
