  • Well, it didn't take us long to get our 2021 #Mustang #Mach1 out on the track! In this video, we hit the 1320 for a few baseline passes in our bone stock, Twister Orange Mach 1. Scott takes a break from breaking records in our Steeda Silver Bullet to chase a low time in the South Georgia heat!
This car won't stay in stock form for long. We have huge plans for this build, and you can stay up to date with it here:

Moved down to South Florida as a teenager in the early 90's and Steeda was always a fixture in the car scene. The best Mustangs around were Steedas. I remember when my big brother bought a gorgeous '94 Cobra the first thing I did was drive over to your shop and buy one of your tri-ax shifters to install for him. Awesome to see you guys still going strong.

When it comes to modern automotive electronics, Fords PCM is one of the best in the business. The 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe that I’ve owned since new, uses Fords EEC-4 PCM that also earned the highest reputation for being the best around back in the day.
But even with its blazing fast adaptive functions, it still takes a few moments to adjust for optimal performance using the factory tune specifications to keep the 2.3 liter, turbo/inter-cooled, 5-speed manual drivetrain happy.
A good example would be the times I ran the Turbo Coupe at Atlanta Dragway. Keep in mind that the T-Bird engine is the original 1987 version of Fords 2.3 liter four cylinder that first appeared in the early seventies as the 140 cubic inch Pinto powerhouse. In the mid-eighties, Ford added forged internals along with the inter-cooled turbo and installed it in the SVO Mustang and T-Bird Turbo Coupe.
Even though the description sounds like the current Ecoboost Mustang 2.3 liter engine, the two engines have nothing in common. When I ran my old school 2.3 liter Turbo Coupe at the strip, I would buy a tank full of 100 octane unleaded race fuel. The PCM loved it and responded by keeping the waste gate closed longer and adding a little more timing advance.
The power gained from the 100 octane fuel wasn’t noticeable until all of the 93 octane that’s required for daily driving had been completely purged from the injection system and replaced by the race fuel. At that point the engine clearly had much better throttle response and for the next two or three passes down the quarter mile the PCM didn’t have to deal with fuel related issues like knock retard and the elapsed times dropped on average of a tenth with each subsequent quarter mile pass.
Bracket racing isn’t always about winning the big trophy and kissing the Drag Strip Dolls. There’s plenty of satisfaction from setting new performance goals and tossing back a few cold brews on Saturday night….and taking a doll home with me 😉.

@@StefBelgium super lucky! Congratulations on your future purchase of an even more amazing vehicle than we already have. I ended up going with a 10R80 because of all the shift fork and synchronizer problems, are you planning on going with the Tremec? I have grown fond of the 10R80 but this is the first auto sports car I've owned. If they would have had the Tremec in the GT I would certainly have gone with a manual. I now want to get a Mach 1 six speed so bad its driving me nuts 😫 to be honest I feel like they really knocked it out of the park with this one. I would genuinely rather the Mach 1 over a GT350 because of the tried and true Coyote engine. Don't get me wrong I think the 350 is a fantastic car but the Voodoo 5.2 seems to have some issues and I believe that this new Mach 1 really has the best of both worlds. Reliability of the Coyote and the capability of a really great track car!

Scott did a superb job with demonstrating the magnificent new Mach 1.
As far as break-in procedures are concerned, if Ford recommends a specific way then by all means , go for it. The first oil change for a brand new engine is the most important. The machining required for new engines always leaves abrasive junk behind. An engines longevity depends on frequent oil and filter changes and the first is the most important. So what are you waiting for ??? 😉

I had the ford performance power pack intake/throttle bodys/tune on my 2018 GT 10speed which is essentially what is on the mach 1 to give it 480hp. I ran 11.9 at 120mph in 85 degree weather and a pretty warm engine with 1.9 60fts like this car in the vid. I think the mach one's issue is it's weight, and the fact that a lot of it's extra weight is in the fat wheels it rides on. The worst weight is weight at the wheel. But awesome car nonetheless, 12.0 and 11.9 isnt much of a difference. I was also at sea level so that may have helped.

@@steedaautosports break in is pretty much a non issue anymore, the only areas where it’ll be a problem is real high performance stuff like high end bikes and stuff with super high redlines like the old n/a Ferraris, stuff where it has to be spot on point, the old gt500s has some mild break in requirements as well
Like my Ducati streetfighter V4 had a requirement for break in and a limiter at 9000rpm after you do it’s first service you can take it all the way to it’s 14,500rpm all day long
Brands like ford are not going to do this to something like the mach 1 or mustang GT. They do a pre break in at the factory by using pressurized air to run the engine, not only to break the engine in but too also check for leaks and QC. That doesn’t mean this mach 1 won’t get faster over a few thousand miles, you’ll still have some sort of break in but the days of old are long over

Well, for one, DON'T drag race a new car until it is broken in. It will always have slower times. Secondly, most likely the Stang has 3.55 gearing. Great for road racing, not drag racing. Throw in some 3.73's or even 4.11 gearing (if you can get them) and you will reach low 11's if not 10's respectively without any mods.
Example, try and ride your mountain bike with small sprockets up-hill. It works for a minute at low speed. But if you increase sprocket size, you will go much faster, but will need more effort in energy. Same with the car! Physics.... Or, you can put high alcohol TNT in the gas tank and do 6's... But it will blow the motor and trans every time. LoL.

The 301A package gives you selectable drive modes on the base model. It knocks about 1.5 to 2 tenths off your 1/4 mile when you put it in drag mode with the 10-Speed auto. You can usually pick up a base GT for under MSRP by a few thousand. A friend got one for $34K. The Mach 1 is going to run you $55-60 K easy and dealers won't go down to anywhere near MSRP on a Mach 1. They're marking them up quite a bit right now.
I know you get a lot of extras with the Mach 1 but if straight line speed is all you want in a Mustang the base GT will run with and maybe outrun the heavier Mach 1.
