My belief is that God only spared Lot and his family because of their relation to Abraham. I believe that Lot and his daughters were no better then the angry Mob that tried to have sex with the Angels at Lot’s home. Lot is willing to give up his own daughters to the mob to subdue their anger. And as a consequence Lot’s daughters later impregnate themselves by taking advantage of Lot. To me this is a karmic consequence of Lot allowing his daughters to get raped by the Mob, thus he is later raped by his own daughters. Originally Lot pleaded with the Angels to retreat to a nearby city rather then the cave once Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed. The Angels allowed Lot’s request, yet he heads to the cave anyways, despite wanting to go to the city.

Agreed, if Abraham had been allowed to continue pleading and got God down to 1, the same would have happened. If God killed even one righteous person that would have been murder, and God couldn't have done it.

God was going to send judgment upon Sodom and Gomorrah (S&G) but Abraham bargained with God that if 10 righteous folks were found in S&G, then God would not destroy the cities. So, according to what is written, God sent his angels, not to save Lot, but to see if 10 righteous were there, and if so, God would not destroy the cities.
    Genesis 18:
32 And he (ABRAHAM) said, Oh let not the Lord (GOD) be angry, and I (ABRAHAM) will speak yet but this once: Peradventure TEN SHALL BE FOUND THERE. And he (GOD) said, I (GOD) will not destroy it (the cities) for ten's sake.
33 And the Lord (GOD) went his way, as soon as he (GOD) had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.
So, the bargain was that the cities would be spared if 10 righteous folks were found there, i.e., even though the cities were inhospitable, the cities would still be spared if 10 righteous folks were there. That means that inhospitality was not why God destroyed the cities - the cities would have not been destroyed, although inhospitable, IF 10 RIGHTEOUS FOLKS COULD BE FOUND THERE.
So, the angels did not go down to S&G to save Lot, but instead, they went there SPECIFICALLY to find at least 10 righteous folks. How do we know this to be true?
Genesis 19:2 And he (LOT) said, Behold now, my lords (THE ANGELS), turn in, I pray you, into your servant's (LOT'S) house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they (THE ANGELS) said, Nay; but we (THE ANGELS) will abide in the street all night.
In other words, the angels were there to find 10 righteous folks, that was their mission from GOD, not to stay with Lot all night. Ten righteous folks and the cities were to be spared, less than 10 righteous folks and the cities were to be destroyed.
That let's the reader know that it was not the inhospitality of the cities that caused the destruction of the cities, but something else. What was the something else?
    Genesis 19:
4 But before they lay (THE ANGELS) down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
5 And they (THE MEN OF THE CITY) called unto Lot, and said unto him (LOT), Where are the men (THE ANGELS) which came in to thee (LOT) this night? bring them (THE ANGELS) out unto us (THE MEN OF THE CITY), THAT WE (THE MEN OF THE CITY) MAY KNOW THEM (THE ANGELS).
6 And Lot went out at the door unto them (THE MEN OF THE CITY), and shut the door after him,
7 And said, I pray you, BRETHREN (MEN OF THE CITY), DO NOT SO WICKEDLY.
What were THE MEN OF THE CITY going to do that was considered to be so WICKED? Was it gang r*pe?
Well, Lot offered his daughters to THE MEN OF THE CITY for their sexual pleasure. So, the wicked behavior that Lot was concerned about was not gang r*pe. It must have been the type of gang r*pe.
    Genesis 19:
8 Behold now, I (LOT) have two daughters which have not known man; let me (LOT), I (LOT) pray you, bring them out unto you (THE MEN OF THE CITY), AND DO YE (MEN OF THE CITY) TO THEM (LOT'S DAUGHTERS) AS IS GOOD IN YOUR EYES: only unto these MEN (THE ANGELS) do nothing.
Lot understood that the men of the city wanted intimacy with men. Lot is a man. Why not offer himself? The men would have likely accepted that deal, too.
9 And they (THE MEN OF THE CITY) said ... now will we (THE MEN OF THE CITY) deal worse with thee (LOT), than with them (THE ANGELS). And they (THE MEN OF THE CITY) pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
That verse informs the reader that Lot (a man) was also on their intimacy menu, but not Lot's daughters.
12 And the men (THE ANGELS) said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
13 For WE WILL DESTROY THIS PLACE, BECAUSE the cry of them (THE MEN OF THE CITY) is waxen great BEFORE the face of the LORD; and the LORD HATH SENT US TO DESTROY IT.
Notice, the angels never had a chance to check to see if 10 righteous folks abided in the cities. All of the men of the city were there at Lot's house, but there is no indication that any women were present. In other words, there could have been at least 10 righteous women in S&G which would have led to the cities not being destroyed. However, we never got to find this out because "the cry of them (THE MEN OF THE CITY) is waxen great BEFORE the face of the LORD; and the LORD HATH SENT US TO DESTROY IT."
In summary, the bargain was for at least 10 righteous folks, it does not say whether or not the 10 be all male, all female, or a mixture of the two sexes. This is not specified. From the reading, just 10 righteous folks were necessary for the cities not to be destroyed.
Yes, inhospitality, and a few other things, brought the LORD'S attention to the city. But the LORD was willing to spare the city, although inhospitable, if at least 10 righteous folks resided there.
We find that the angels never got the opportunity to look for 10 righteous folks because of the wicked SEXUAL behavior of the men of the city. Thus, "the cry of them (THE MEN OF THE CITY) is waxen great BEFORE the face of the LORD; and the LORD HATH SENT US TO DESTROY IT."
That is the BUT FOR or the THE ACTUAL CAUSE or THE REASON WHY the decision was made to destroy S&G.
Again, "the cry of them (THE MEN OF THE CITY) is waxen great BEFORE the face of the LORD; and the LORD HATH SENT US TO DESTROY IT."

The New Testament says that homosexuality is a “shameful lust” (Romans 1:26), a “shameful act,” an abandonment of “natural relations” (Romans 1:27), a “wrongdoing” (1 Corinthians 6:9), and “sexual immorality and perversion” (Jude 1:7). Homosexuality carries a “due penalty” (Romans 1:27), “is contrary to the sound doctrine” (1 Timothy 1:10), and is listed among the sins that bar people from the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9). Despite the attempts of some to downplay these verses, the Bible could not be clearer that homosexuality is a sin against God.

Hi, Daughter of Zion. You're right. Lot wasn't inherently righteous. But he was called righteous in Scripture ("...and if He rescued righteous Lot..." (2 Peter 2:7). Also, looking through Genesis, Abraham, out of love for his nephew, negotiated with God to spare the "righteous" in the city. Lot was a drunkard but I don't think he practiced incest with his daughters. The Bible clearly states that "...he did not know when she lay down or when she arose" (Genesis 19:33,35). He was grossly taken advantage of by his daughters, though he is to blame for his drunkenness.

@@DoulosPodcast I know that the word righteous in the Torah meant something totally different for that culture back then. I can go feed the homeless and I would be called a righteous person. Doing the right thing all the time why living amongst wickedness is why Noah was called righteous. Per Lot in my opinion he wasn't all that righteous it was only because of Abraham that he was spared per the angel who said so.
Lot was disobedient, Lot was greedy, Lot was a drunk, and no telling what else Lot was about when he tried to judge the men of Sodom and they reminded him how dare you live amongst us and yet you try and be our judge. Lots character is very much displayed in the type of man he was. And if he was sooooo righteous according to your opinion that he even was willing to sacrifice his daughters. So do your home work some more on the story. Islam can never understand this because their beliefs are anti Christ, they don't believe in salvation, the Holy Ghost nor that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has a son called his name Jesus born of the Virgin Mary.
Oh yeah and keep in mind that Abraham's negotiations was for God to spare the cities if he could find 5 righteous. Ummm the inhabitants failed the test that would include Lot as well. He was spared only because of Abraham. True believers of the Christ remember some family members can be spared through God mercy because of your obedience to him. “Righteous” doesn’t always mean “perfect” in the Bible. Obviously, the gross immoral acts that Lot and his daughters did were not righteous acts. However, compared to God’s perfect holiness, the sins you and I have committed aren’t all that different. Since God is God, He can save whom He wants by His mercy and He can damn whom He wants by His justice. Genesis 19:4-5 says, "...the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young...and they called unto Lot, and said unto him, 'Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them." Did they intend to rape the angels? Yes, but they were men seeking to do that with other men--old and young men alike showing how pervasive homosexuality was in Sodom.

The town was destroyed because it was full of wickedness as Genesis 18:20 says. Lot was never praised for offering his daughters up to sexual deviants. He was considered just not because of his good deeds or his sins but because God showed him mercy. Woman are image bearers of God so they have equal worth in the eyes of God. However, men and women have different roles. God is the Creator of us all so He determines what is right in the family and society.

What we know about Lot peace be upon him, that he spent a lot of time and years trying to bring his village people to right path (as much as like any other prophet and messenger sent from God), but they didn’t until the last moments when the angels came to Lots to tell him what God Almighty sent them to do… and told him to take the believers only with him from his family and other villagers, except his wife that she is not one of the (cause she tolerated and accepted what their sinners do and she was the one who went to the villagers to tell them about the new visitors so she betrayed Lot)
And when they knew they came to Lot wanting to get to the strangers visitors to do what they want to do with them insisting on their ways and corrupted mentally/mortalities and beliefs
They have had A lot of sins, the main big sin is their homosexuality
If just for that they got the wrath God put them to
Homosexuality is one of the BIG SINs
And we believe in that as muslims

Hi, @Phoenixica. Thanks for the comments. Although the Bible doesn't give us any indication that Lot nor his wife engaged in preaching against the wickedness of the city, it does tell us that Lot tried to warn his sons-in-law (Genesis 19:14, KJV). Sodom and Gomorrah were wicked cities and God decided to destroy them for their sin. Homosexuality is definitely a pronounced sin--as Paul writes in Romans, it is against nature. Ultimately, though, every sin deserves the judgment Sodom and Gomorrah received, which is why our only hope of escape is in God's Son, Jesus Christ.

@@DoulosPodcast thank you for your reply,
Yes it is a sin indeed, from Quran it tells us a lot of details, about what their main sin (homosexuality etc) and that their wicked acts and beliefs and Lot pbuh was sent with a message from God, even in the time when the wrath is about to begin the two angels sent from God went first to Abraham to give him the news about that he will have a son and the other news was that they are heading to Lots village to do what God sent them to do.
So yes its fascinating to read and hear these stories from reliable sources
To take notes and knowledge from them

Well, simply, yes. The central issue is sin-we’re all guilty of breaking God’s law (lying, stealing, lusting, gossiping, dishonoring parents, etc.) so we deserve death (Romans 6:23). God is perfectly holy, righteous and just-He must punish sin. Even the “little” sins.

    • @DoulosPodcast

Hi, Rares. We have to start with what the Bible says because God tells us who He is in the Bible. The Bible says He's holy (Isaiah 6) and He will by no means clear the guilty (Exodus 34:6-7). He drowned the entire world for the great evil of people except for Noah and his family (Genesis 6:5-8). So, God does solve the sin issue by killing people because all sinners are worthy of death (Romans 6:23). God only hears the prayers of those who have repented and trust Christ for salvation (Proverbs 28:9, Romans 8:15). God even put to death His own Son, Jesus Christ, that you and I could be spared from His eternal wrath in the lake of fire (1 John 4:10).
