  • On July 4th 1776 America declared its independence. Think of this, the United States declares its independence from Britain but that didn’t mean shit because King George, King George wasn’t going to just give it up. Our war of independence is a perfect metaphor for your divorce. The fighting began in 1775, the 13 colonies said enough is enough and declared independence a year later. But Britain fought on and the United States was officially recognized in the treaty of Paris on September 3rd 1783, that’s when your divorce papers were signed but the independence is July 4th. Your divorce began way before your divorce papers were signed.
We celebrate our independence on the day we made the decision to leave the marriage not the date the papers were signed. It didn't come out of nowhere. There were many skirmishes fought until finally one of you had enough and said you’re done. Waiting for the courts to sign is now a mere formality because it's gonna happen
So this 4th, remember that despite the loss, it's a date of celebration and despite the wars between the U.S. and Great Britain, we got over the growing pains, we grew closer and became not just friends but allies.
    Happy Independence day
