Glad you enjoyed it. I think accidentally leaving your rod in the boot is a must when heading to Torquay :) It throws up a number of different species and its such a nice place to fish. Have a great time away.
Cheers 👍 Glad you enjoyed the video. Its amazing how many different species are right at your feet on these piers. I cannot actually remember if we did take the squid home, I can't see us turning down a bit of calamari 😋
Its a lovely coastline down that way. Thanks for your suggestion, just been looking at long quarry point and its now added to the "go to" list, looks very fishy 👍
Enjoyed the video and learnt quite a lot so big thanks. PS next time I'm there I will try for squid as I saw a fairly large one down there the other day. Mark.
Hi matey I will be coming down Torquay in 2 weeks I am taking my lrf rod and gear. I will be in a hotel next to the harbour and pier. I would appreciate it if you could give me any tips tia matey tight lines🎣
Hi mate. So we fished off of Haldon Pier, if you walk right to the end then you can hop over the wall on the left hand side. Be careful of the bottom step/ledge as its really slippery in parts. I normally use a size 16 to 14 hook on the dropshot rig with a 2g weight. Fishing straight down the side of the wall will pick up most of the species. If you're planning on using bait then rag worm or tiny strips of squid will do you well. Isome in pink or brown also seem to work well here. Have a great time and tight lines. If you need any more help then just let me know 👍
I generally try and keep it as light as I can when LRFing for smaller species. Wind picked up a bit so couldn't connect with bottom properly. If you're just fishing down the side on a calm day then 1 or 2 gram will be fine. Size 16 or 14 hook with some isome and you can't go wrong. If its slow then a bit of rag worm or thin strips of squid will do the trick 👍
Hi, how heavy is the light rod? I‘m going to south Norway in a few weeks and want to try out light fishing. Because the fish there are similar to those you caught i decided to ask you. So I‘m searching for a new rod right now and I want orientate to your tackle. I would be happy about an answer because don‘t have an idea of such light fishing normaly I fish heavier.
Hi Florian, You will have a great time in Norway on the light tackle I am sure. So the rod that I was using in this video was a ultralight 0.5 to 5g HTO Urban Finesse. This was paired with a 1000 size reel. We were using 6lb braid going down to a 4ln fluorocarbon leader and a size 16 to 14 hook. Our other rod was a HTO Nebula Rock Rover. They have a casting weight of about 1-7g but they're great for travel as its a 5 piece rod and will packdown to just 62cm. Also comes with 2 tip sections, one tubular and one solid tip. Again could be paired with a 1000 size reel or a 2000 size. Hope this helps and have a great time in Norway.
You should be absolutley fine. The water temperature is still moderate so you will be able to get In amongst the wrasse, pout, Pollock, gobies and blennies plus all the other little bits that are about! Don't overlook the squid either... make sure you have a a few jigs in your armoury! Good luck and let us know how you get on!
Thanks for subscribing. It is very much appreciated 👍. The LRF style of fishing becomes so addictive. It's amazing how many different species live right at our feet along harbour walls and in rock pools etc. Using light rods and a light line can make it feel like you've hooked into a double figure fish. So that little fish with the teeth is a type of Wrasse called a Goldshinny.
At first I thought,Why? But seeing the beautiful variety of colourful little fish, I began to understand. Nice one, Cheers lads. Liked and subbed.
Great video chaps. That squid was cool 😎
Cheers mate. Can't beat a bit of squid 👍
Loved this one. Heading here next week for the wife’s birthday…. The rod might make its way in to the boot.

Going to Torquay next month can’t wait! Any tips? Larger drop shot weights you think? 4-5 gram?

Hi, thank you very much. It helped me by picking the right gear. 😀
Not a problem, happy to help. Let us know how it goes out there 👍
Heading down that way for the weekend, is there still much worth catching this time of year?
