    It's a little disapointing how divided so called UFO fans are regarding the guitar players that have been in this band. I am a HUGE Michael Schenker fan, one of the best of alltime. No one on earth can fill Michaels shoe's. But I tip my hat to Paul Champman and the contribution he made to this band. They were still making great albums during his run. Thanks Paul!

      Can't fault Tonka in the studio, live, he was terrible, started getting his act together around '83, but by then the end was nigh.

      I disagree, after Schenker left they were making good albums, but not great. The closest they came to a great album was
      The Wild, The Willing and The Innocent, but that was brought down by a couple of duds.

    I remember going to see them at Hammersmith on the Strangers in the Night tour, and no one was sure if Schenker was going to walk out on stage or not. There was a physical sense of disappointment when he didn't, but by the end of the night, Tonka had one them over, A great player in his own right. Sadly fighting his own demons, but hugely underrated.

    My heros ! When I was12 my dad bought me a toy guitar in a paper box package (made out of hollow-hard plastic and was 1/2 size of it ) .... on front of the package there was an excellent picture of the UFO band which was belong to their LIVE show in Germany in 1973 and at first glance I fell in love with UFO Hard rock band ! 2 years later when I was 14 my brother's best friend came by to see us and he showed me a cassette of the UFO ! !! He said here you are, I've got what you were looking for since you were 14 and he put the music on for a few song, andI was speechless in a different loving world !
    I am 53 now and I have almost every album so far ! I still love the band and even more !

Awesome 👍😎👍 (The cherry 8mm vid, is the only film I've seen of UFO that day. It's so grainy, it looks like a fucked up day, but it was Beautiful..... lol, on the other hand Aerosmith the headliner" tyler came out drunk as f"....it was like hearing a piglet squeal.... It was so bad, We bailed to the opposite end of the field. Sorry Steve, refer to the tapes..you owe me a sober show.... 👍.lol, of course Van Halen Rocked" Toto= Unbelievably Flawless, Smooth.... Very Nice!!! 👍 My hats off to the boomtown rats. Some punk hurled a can filled with dirt, almost"""Hit him, then the drummer..." they stopped the show, & told the stadium to F off...After he took a few pics of The 👍 in the air, They resumed. NICE SHOW! Eddie money came out , when a warm breeze crossed the arena, The stars & stripes wafting in the wind, what a beautiful set. If you closed your eyes, you'd swear it's radio. Eddie money was Great that way. The songs you loved on radio, were before you live. Toto as well, but to see a band that large play together so flawlessly, is beautiful. "
      UFO cherry, Live @ the Coliseum" Best I've seen yet.....Can't match those vocals, my overall Fave.
      Lol #1 Led Zeppelin
      #2 UFO

    • @SpeedKingHighwayStar
      @SpeedKingHighwayStar 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ilton White Splitting hairs aren't you? That's like saying Gillan & Glover weren't original members of Purple. While a significant minority will cite Evans and Simper as "original" members of Purple, and Bolton as an "original" member of UFO (and in both cases technically correct), by far and away the vast majority will cite Mk2 Purple as being the "original" band and in a similar way (no pun intended) the 70's Schenker years as being the "original" UFO line-up. When one is playing the Force It album or Obsession at full blast who cares about the previous incarnation which in the overall scheme of things turned out to be a pre-cursor to the main show, same goes for when In Rock and Machine Head are blasted at full pelt, who cares about the pre-cursor to the main show that in effect was the Evans and Simper non-event. For me huge credit also goes to "Tonka" Chapman, the run of studio albums with him is up there too. And WOW and Covenant also colossal. Sharks competent but seems to lack a spark for me and 'dark' production, then YAH crunchy & crispy production but personally not keen on the albums with Moore, especially those after YAH and I personally rate Bolton ahead of Moore but the albums from 74' onwards I feel eclipse those before.

Yeah I know he wasn't Michael Schenker, but he had some chops and he was melodic and had an old school feel to playing solos meaning play for the song with feeling and heart and less technical and flash🙂!!!! I 🤔 think Paul Chapman had more of a blues like feel in his guitar playing kind of like Angus Young of AC/DC!!!! RIP Paul!!!! Will miss ya! I loved his guitar playing on the "No Place To Run" album!!! Brilliant performance!!!! Plus! He played on a Waysted record "Save Your Prayers" with Pete Way in 1987!!!!!👍👍👍👍🙂😃😀😊😄

    I saw UFO at The Checkerdome in St Louis 🤔 I'm thinking 1980 or 1981, I was maybe 13 or 14 y/o. I think it was Chapman on guitar, and there were only a few hundred people who attended but it was a great concert. I would have given anything to have seen them with Schenker though. He's on the short list of my top 5 guitarists of all time. Also Terry Kath of Chicago. Both are totally underrated

    Tonka absolutely a beast in his own right. Unfortunately just had the misfortune to follow Michael. And to correct the guy below The Wild Willing & Innocent isn't just the best Chapman album it's one of the best UFO records period. The solo on Profession of Violence is absolutely Schenker-worthy. Mechanix was good but TWW&I was classic.

Michael, Herman Rarebell, Francis B., Ted McKenna, Rob M., and Gary Burden, Graham Bonnet... These guys are lucky to have the grace and harmony of Michael as far as touring is concerned.

    • @imacmadman22
      @imacmadman22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually Paul Raymond on (left-handed) rhythm guitar and keyboards, Neil Carter made his debut with the band in 1980 with the album 'The Wild, the Willing and the Innocent' and Carter is right-handed, that's the easiest way to tell them apart. I've been a fan of UFO since 1979, thanks to my older sister.
