I'm a veteran. This song always hits hard. 4 times to Afghanistan, once to Haiti, and once to Iraq. My job was to clear landmines. I was also Master Breacher. I lost so many brothers. We aren't monsters or murderers. Just guys that wanted to make the world a better place. I just wanted to help.

I'm a British Army veteran and I have PTSD but I work as a welfare officer helping other veterans so I can give back and help others through my experiences. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago and though there is more help out there it's still not enough. I also believe that we need to educate people that the military aren't the one's who make the orders and decisions to fight so don't hate them hate the politicians who give the orders.

Once I saw the tears, I knew you got it. This is why our military, our anthem, and our flag means so much to us Patriots. We understand the sacrifice that was made by these people who volunteered to fight so we don't have to. And it's not appreciated by so many Americans that choose to call us a racist country. It's unbelievable. Thank you for reacting to this, and understanding the importance.

As the son of a CAF 🇨🇦 veteran I appreciate you leaving the help stuff run at the end as well as your perspective on how we are failing veterans. My dad did a tour in Bosnia in 93 and still suffers all these years later. When he did his tour is was long before any governments really started to recognize PTSD so he suffered in silence for 14 years before getting any true help. It makes me happy the 5FDP did this and continues to do stuff like this for veterans.

I am a British army vet and yeah sometimes it feels like we are discarded after doing what we were ordered to do. We had do things that we didn't agree with but had to be done and I personally live with that everyday. I'm not afraid to admit I done things and turned to drink and drugs to combat those memories it took me 9 years to finally get the help I needed and I'm still waiting but the song is right we don't see ourselves as heroes I saw myself as a monster because of what happened but people thank me and I'm sad about it because they don't know what I did

I wasn't wounded but I was injured during a mission over Laos and to this this day I still have remember every minute of that sortie and occasionally have nightmares. I am lucky and blessed that I I had a successful 22 year Air Force career and a long civilian career afterwards. I thank you so much for your caring, thoughtful words and your support of veterans from any country. As someone who worked for veterans, daughter of WWII veteran, niece of decorated WWII veteran, and aunt of Air Force reserve member lost in 2018 - thank you for bringing this song and story to more eyes and ears. The social services for our vets are inadequate and a disgrace. They perform a duty that most people would run from - and they return forever changed by the insanity and inherent trauma of war. God bless everyone of them. I pray we find a better way as a country to resolve conflict. 🙏😔 Always love your sensitivity and genuineness 💕

Thank you for letting the whole video play before saying anything, great response, our Vets deserve much better from the Government. They serve with honor and come back to a system that has unlimited resources for the welfare system but very limited for our Vets. The private sector has charities and organizations that try and pick up the slack that our Government leaves, it's vile, disgusting and shameful. I LOVE my country but despise the sham our Government has become.

  • @Pecos1

Thank you for your words at the end. I'm 49 now, my 1st deployment I was 32. The command I was in was evil in many ways. They sent me to Baghdad with NO combat training or SERE, embedded with a Tier One unit, then sent another guy out to "watch" me. A week after he arrived, he pulled me aside and told me what he was told. First they said I was going to do a bunch of stupid things, but what he saw was 180 degrees different, so he felt the need to inform me. They also told him they expected, and intended, for me to not return. How do you react to being told your (immediate) chain of command planned your death. The awards I received upon my return only passed them off more. Unfortunately, for them, I did my job despite them telling me to do the wrong things. I went through three years of hell, and very nearly didn't make it out of that command. So yeah, I have nightmares to this day. I made some good, strong friends in the Tier One community, which only proved to solidify the hatred thrust upon me. And why, you ask? Because I refused to be a 'yesman'. They had a "good ol' boys club" going, but I refused to play. One of my battle buddies called me a year after I left the command to tell me some fun news: that command was kicked out of the entire AOR and banned from returning. A small piece of satisfaction, but not enough to alleviate the torturous memories.

I’m a combat veteran of Afghanistan and Somalia while in the Rangers and I also did 2 missions in Colombia South America. I understand most civilians don’t know what we went through and that’s ok, y’all shouldn’t. I’ve been out 20 years now and I can’t even believe what we did to this day. Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day is a way for people to show some love back to those that have everything and to those that have to much. Coming back with less than we left with will always hurt my heart. Those families will be damaged for ever. Thank u to all those that have served, are serving and to those that will serve.

I had never seen that video or heard the song until tonight.
That one hit pretty deep. Brought back a lot of memories.
22 years…. Everything from Deaert Shield through New Dawn…
    I’ve watched my buddies spiral… I’ve buried some….
    22 a day
For some… the battle never ends
Gonna need some quiet time tonight after that one.

8 year vet ..this song is hard go listen to but it opens thr discussion which was the purpose of this song ..
22 veterans a day at minimum take their own life's. Due to ptsd and other problems .. these men and women saw no politics only freedom for others ..
    Love and respect

Thank you for your reaction. USMC 0311 vet really effin struggling with shite between too many surgeries and no more pain meds, poss terminal diagnosis last week at 38yo, Lesko Brandon, Milley and Marxism attempting an all or nothing global takeover. I wish I could have traded places with any one of my brothers who didn't come home...

I have seen this video and reactions to this video probably more than a hundred times and my reaction is always the same. The message hurts. I am one of the lucky ones. I never had ptsd or had to deal with homelessness or divorce due to my military service but I see it daily. Thank you for your kind words and reaction to this video. We all need to do better. 22 a day is 22 too many.

I tried hard, I Was in Afghanistan in 09. Lost a buddy there, I got home, went to school, became a medical professional. I thought that I could help myself by helping others. I descended into madness, lying to myself. I eventually lost my job and my apartment, nearly lost my life to my own hand. I was on a waiting list for the VA for months until the police got involved because I tried to kill myself. I can no longer work and am fully disabled, even though I look fine on the outside. Counselling and medication keeps me functional, but just barely. There are not enough resources out there to help all the vets that need it and I know there are guys and girls much worse off than me.
And we are also part of the problem, because someone who is a warrior, who is willing to die for others and sees themselves as a protector feels weak and powerless when asking for help. It takes more strength than we ever showed in battle to admit that we can't beat something, when all our lives we've been beating the odds, overcoming impossible obstacles, doing things that normal people would never attempt. But even we can't fight the demons in our head alone. Nobody can.

I appreciate your showing this and understanding. I was part of the lead invasion into Afghanistan back in late September 2001. Little did I know that when I was at Walter Reed Hospital for 3 months, my wife, at the time, was planning a divorce because she got herself a boyfriend while I was gone. So, as you can imagine, because I was involved in 2 wars during this, my 6 children were taken out of my life. And why?... because I was gone so much? I really appreciated that from our own citizens.

I GAVE EVERYTHING! for all of you. I was not forced to do it. In fact i jumped at the opportunity to do it without hesitation, and do not want praise. I am not a hero, i am not a saint. What i do want is for you all to realize (the next time you meet a veteran) that man or woman is suppose to be dead, they are a walking ghost. They willingly gave their life in the fight for your freedom. I am homeless, and attempted suicide twice. Both times i could not do it, because of my loved ones.

I genuinely hope things can get progressively better for you as time moves on. I thank you for your service, my father served during Vietnam. He was a combat engineer and served 21 1/2 years, sadly he passed away from COPD and other complications in 2018.
I was unable to serve due to medical things which is extremely unfortunate, all of my being wanted to serve as my father did. 'It's in my blood.'
Can you get into contact with any of the veteran helping organizations to maybe get a permanent place to live? There was a person on the Free Range American podcast recently who operates an organization that helps home veterans. I'm on mobile so it's a little tough trying to find it while typing this message.
      Edit:
It was with Daniel Vargas, he heads Operation Triage which mainly helps Wounded veterans with financial, home remodeling and advocacy to help veterans be productive in their communities. This organization may not apply to your situation, but I just mentioned it as an example.
