Nah she's very celebrated and rated accordingly. 15 Grammys and Billboard's #5 artist of the 00s and 2nd biggest female artist of the 00s. She ruled the 00s alongside Beyonce, Eminem and Usher and most legends don't even have a single Grammy. Most artists don't stay relevant for this long, she's done pretty well for herself still staying sort of relevant today.
Alicia Keys is not underrated. Look up the meaning. She’s one of the greatest singer songwriters of her generation.

This song is a freaking classic. So much so that back in 2001 when it first came out my Mexican mum that spoke no English at the time looooooved this song. She would always make 11 year old me play it for her lolol.
She's the youngest person to write and produce her own album (songs in A Minor) . She was found by Clive Davis the same person who discovered Whitney and so many other soul and R&B singers. Her introduction to the world was orchestrated by Clive on the Oprah show in 2001.

will never forget the first time i heard this song and saw this video. mesmerised. totally captivated. i had just started secondary school....i also remember her and aaliyahs final (self titled) album were both fighting for the number one spot and i think Alicia just got it. both deserved it but alicia crossed genres, borders, broke boundaries and is multifaceted which made the world hooked. her song empire state of mind with Jay actually gave me the courage to get on a plane to new york (from london) all alone at age 18 which ultimately contributed to having one of the most fulling travel experiences of my life :)
