The way they are going the enviroment adjusts to the player so it would be essentially a timewalking dungeon. I doubt it would happen though for the simple reason the current developers are shit scared of going up against ten-year old content and potentially losing.
TommyDaGreatest They keep saying stuff like that but it patently isn't true. The code is still around. And, seriously, a billion-dollar corporation doesn't back up its content?
Been binging Hayven again, and man this is some quality content. Holds up so good and don't even know what to compare it to nowadays on the WoW-side of youtube. Just so hard watching the outros though, telling us you'll be back soon. Rest in peace Hayven.
joshua garner Same man. I remember my very VERY first toon, a Human Male Rogue. I remember spending so much time running Deadmines over and over till I got all the blue leather pieces and Dual Cruel Barbs.
As an old time WoW player who hasn't really felt in it since TBC this brought back fond memories. It reminded me of how doing the dungeon was an adventure every time due to the fact you physically had to travel there, fight your way through the mine before getting into the actual dungeon and, of course, a time when you could actually fail dungeons even if you were well geared but poorly attentive. I think what it reminded me most of all though was the fact that dungeons were there for finishing quest lines for great experience and for the loot, loot that would last you ten levels(which was like a week of decent amounts of hours played) and had meaning even at low levels. Now everything is automated. How you get there(teleported), who you're with, what spec you are and there is no planning or challenge what so ever despite gear or knowledge of the dungeon. You finish the dungeon in ten minutes and mob 10 enemies at a time, bursting them down with AoE without a care for loot or enjoyment, just looking forward to that dangling XP reward at the end of the dungeon.
I really wish heroic revamps would keep the Normal difficulty the original dungeon while making the Heroic the new one. I miss the old DM so much, I would do anything to be able to play it again like back in the day.
I don't see how it would matter, when mobs die in 2 seconds anyway. Them revamping Naxx should have been an obvious example that it doesn't matter if they bring it back or not, Blizzard has changed so their work will be different (worse).
Questionable Object Do you get nostalgia every time you fly over the wetlands? What people have nostalgia for is the experience, I personally don't see any point in bringing the old version back currently. If you want further proof, look at timewalking dungeons. For wotlk and later the experience is somewhat more similar to the timewalking dungeons, but when the only way that I find them enjoyable is to pull half the dungeon in each pull then it just won't give you the same experience. This especially affects the bc dungeons, which I have the fondest memories of, the experience just isn't the same and so the environment doesn't enhance my experience in any way. It's a completely different thing that you're experiencing, because it's a completely different game.
Seems to be just your opinion, is it not? In any case, people expected it to be a mere mob level scale, but what they got was a somewhat unexpected revamp. I don't know about nostalgia or whatever, but I do know that it would have been cool to see the same old dungeon, just with higher level mobs and not a silly one shot electrical obstacle course at the end. All people wanted was simple reminder that, "Hey this was cool back in the day, glad we can do it again without steamrolling it!". With Timewalkers maybe we can run it again in its former glory? Why shouldn't we be allowed to relish in the the fun of the old times?
Martin W True, but I don't see any reason as to why my nostalgia would work differently than others. My argument is simple, if you have the same location but the feeling is completely different then it won't invoke nostalgia, and if it serves no purpose outside that then I don't see an argument that could be made for bringing it back.
Really wish I had found your channel years ago, loving the content and so sad watching knowing that the end is truely going to be the end. You had such a talent, sorry I wasn't in time to share my appreciation for it.
Fun fact: the reason Vanessa somehow survived blowing herself up is because she didn't actually do it. The poison she used to make you face your nightmares caused you to hallucinate and think she blew up, when in reality she escaped.
in dead mines if you have the hyacincth macaw summon it and talk to a goblin on a ledge near the ship. a bird will bring you up to a vendor that sells a Boe defies set.
Thank you for your wonderful videos - they are by far my favourite to watch, especially when I get home from work! I found this incredibly relaxing. I hope you are managing to cope with your health issues, my friend. My thoughts are with you.
lol they havent shut down any servers except WoWscape and i guess you can say "nost" though all blizzard did was send them a letter and they shit their pants >.> You have servers like warmane who get over 30k players in the day playing on their realms and they have been around for YEARS! so the statement about blizzard shutting servers down is just plain wrong lol
Another excellent video ! Btw Hayven, i wanted to add there is a small nod to the old DM in the revamp version, in the way to the foundry there are 2 yellow elite mobs with the name defias overseer if i remember correctly, They do not aggro if you walk next to them, but they say some funny things. Also, i wanna say this: I think one of the reazons Deadmines is so dear to so many players, is not just the dungeon, but the whole story around the defias brotherhood, and the continuation of it. After killing VC you would get a letter that would lead you to Stormwind, where you learn about the reazons behind the rise of the brotherhood and the betrayal they did suffer from the nobles from SW. And THIS is, at least i think so, why VanCleef is one of the most beloved Villians of wow. He was just a regular man that saw his people got betrayed, that claimed for justice and that after had been trown away, the only way he found to exact his revenge, was to create this brotherhood, to steal what he though was theirs, by right. And now that i said this, have anyone noticed that the most beloved "villians" in wow follow this sorta pattern? Illidan surely took on the demonic powers, but he been just fighting the legion in his way, for the sake of Azeroth, Arthas got controled by the LK and later fused with him, but, it's speculated what whatever remained of Arthas, in the mind of the LK was what hold the scourge from runing rampant on Azeroth. You can even argue that Kael'thas started as a good guy, trying to save his people, searching for power to feed them... Until he joined KJ. I think in his search of power, and because of the treatment he received from the humans (cough Garithos, cough) and of course the big lost his people suffered, he lost himself to the madness.
i been around since 03's secret developer island behind deadmines, creatred and found alot of these alongside noggaholic, only a few players remember us
Love the new video. Evolution ones are my favorite, because my favorite times in WoW were way back in the day. And I played the RTS games as well so that part is awesome too. You're in my thoughts and prayers, I hate to hear what you're going through. Hang in there buddy.
i miss the old Deadmines, i started playing WoW when i was 14 in vanilla, and i remember hanging out in the small village near the entrance being killed by the defias guards outside as i was trying to put a group together or find others to go into the dungeon with. it was really a strong memory of my early wow days so it was really nice walking down memory lane and watching this ! thanks Hayven, best wishes!
Excellent video. Great work :) I have fond memories of the deadmines, as it was my first dungeon in vanilla wow and it was a real event to run it back then. Since then I only came back for nostalgic reasons.
and now the defias sets is back in legion from unlocking as level outlaw rogue and need to be certain high level past 25, no need to spend your money anymore, I wish you can see it your self, rest in peace are lovable paladin
The heroic revamp of Deadmines was a huge pain in the ass -- particularly the final fight where you have run through an obstacle course to get back. It was one of those dungeons in LFG where people would drop instantly as soon as they saw it was Deadmines.
I remember back during vanilla I would on occassion, while in Orgrimmar, see a rogue wanting to run the deadmines just in order to get the red bandana and the blackened defias set. It was a journey just to get there and on occassion we would hunt down some lowbies who were questing nearby.
such a Legendary dungeon, the story of Vancleef's daughter witnessing us kill her father in the dungeon up until cataclysm, and then returning as a boss I think is amazing
The feels is strong with this one. I first ran DM in US beta and was blown away back then. Even though I think the original Defias quest line was one of the best continuous storylines in WoW I like the revamp too because the zone is the same but the NPCs and bosses make sense in the continuation of the story.
really love these videos. And yeah.. deadmines is definently a dungeon that holds a spot in my heart... i miss boosting new players.... seeing how happy they are when i help them. as they describe to me what they've experienced so far in this new magical huge world they had just entered. i also miss hearing "you there, check out that noise" when i blow open that door Q.Q
Out of all the videos i have on in the backround while i play wow .. Yours .. Are the only ones i will stop everything just so i don't miss any detail or content from your vidoes. :) You do a fantastic job and i'm always happy to see a new video out x Keep up the outstanding work you do and i look forward to your next video xx thumbs up :)
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy the videos. I am planning on doing a few How it really looks on some battlegrounds in the near future, and AV will be one of them. It might be bundled with other BGs or it will get its own video, we'll see :)
I started playing when BC came out and Deadmines was my first dungeon with my human mage. (who still exists to this day. She isn't my main anymore though.) I've liked this dungeon but I didn't mind that it changed with Cata. I liked the new version aswell, especially the fight with Vanessa Van Cleef. (The whole fight, including the poison part)
2:05 I just realized the non-instanced area of the Deadmines is built almost EXACTLY like it is in this Warcraft 1 map. That's actually pretty damn impressive.
You should make tactical guides to the current legion content in the same manner, with flowing though camera, pictures of mobs, music, etc. More entertaining and easy to watch than usual guides.
still giving me vietnam flashbacks after 14 years.tried to trio it so many times (low lvl priest+rogue+mage)...must have died like a 100 times.we didnt really know what a "tank" was back then.we ended up just camping outside the defias hideout and begged people to join in (like kids outside a 7/11 beggin people to buy em beer)
Ah looking at these old dungeons takes me back. Blizzard WILL release legacy servers eventually. Runescape did it twice and it turned them a profit. When is the real question. Still nice to see blizzard are using legion to bring back old ideas in new ways; like class quests now being weapon bound or returning to the failed idea of negative exp restore in cities (which was abandoned early into wow but was at release) as free talent swapping. Blizzard still care and do listen to their fans, but sometimes they refuse because they fear their fans will split and then fade. Something we need to show we won't. Anyway at least the movie is successful and their still thinking about warcraft 4; although only after the starcraft 2 expansions are done, will any progress be made.
Great video as always!! Your videos are very informative yet, funny aswell. I love them! Keep it up and beat cancers ass while your at it! Been subbed since 6k and im very glad i subbed indeed!
Those objects in the deadmines probably act as a "source file" in order for blizz to preserve and reduce how much system memory is required to be able to play in outlands. If I had to guess I would think that those objects that appear in outlands, or the Dalaran bubble for that matter, are pulled from that zone. So instead of having multiple high polycount designs (lets say one of those trees for instance) that all need to be individually loaded, they all load instantly because they pull from the same source that remains loaded off screen.
I loved the original Deadmines, but it seemed very random compared to the revamp which had more focus on challenging boss fights than the old one (which was more about enduring the endless waves of Defias). My only real complaint about the revamp was that Blizzard changed some of the weapon and armor skins when making the heroic version (like when Cookie's Tenderizer went from rolling pin to spiked club).
I honestly believe that the revamped Deadmines is one of the best dungeon experiences ever. I liked the original Deadmines, though I honestly ONLY liked it cause it was the very first Dungeon I ever did in the game back during Vanilla. However, it didn't really have much to the fights. The revamped version however had a lot more going on during the fights, making it seem like a "mini-raid" which I absolutely loved. Failing to move could get you killed, failing to dodge could get you killed, failing to control adds could get you killed. Cataclysm introduced some deadly dungeons and really made them impressive in difficulty. I also liked how Vanessa was a Heroic Only boss, something I only remember from Burning Crusade (though I honestly don't remember what boss, I am just 100% sure there was one (Not Anzu)). The Vanessa fight was also one of the fights I loved the most. More than a lot of Raid Boss Fights. It was unique, punishing and just downright fun to do :P
I had to look it up a bit to check, but Blood Guard Porung was the one I was talking about ;) And honestly, I forgot about the WotLK one but now that you mention it I do remember a Bog Creaper boss in the Mushroom part that was probably Heroic only (my groups always skipped him though)
That mushroom boss was exactly the one I was talking about. But I only killed him once or twice during Wrath and usually skipped him. But I totally forgot about the blood guard.
yeah i liked the deadmines revamp, I just wish they did more changes. Like oh hey we got to fight another ogre at first and another goblin. I wish they went more with making it all different. Other than that I thought it was fine. Only thing I would have changed was maybe have the ship actually get launched. Like instead of setting it on fire vanessa just leaves, you follow her, then the ship is launched, she swings back on, you fight your way to get to the ropes to just barley make it onto the ship and you have to stop it before it gets to stormwind. When you do Vanessa blows up the ship to try to kill you as well but luckily you were able to get off before and it's assumed she's dead but not. I felt it would have made a more epic dungeon for one of the most iconic parts of wow and a better end to vanessa's story if they wanted to bring her back like they did rather than she somehow survived after throwing a explosive at her feet. Could have said a story that Vanessa died with her father's plan and with that the end of the defias. Just would have felt it would have been better
Dear Hayve- why did i say dear? Anyways, +Hayven games i have a question that has been bugging me since cataclysm: At the end of the tunnel where the undead with blue campfires are there seems to be a continuation (sorry bad english) of the tunnel blocked off by stone rubble, do you know if there is something behind it? Or is it just smoke and mirror decoration thing?
I'm afraid thats all smoke and mirrors. The tunnel ends basically right behind the rubble and then there's nothing more to see. So its just decoration and a convenient way to cut off the mine shaft
the defias set being removed upsets me bc i had almost the full scarlet monestary set but i think i got rid of it eventually. actually, there's no way i did, but i think i somehow lost 1 of the pieces
I miss you
TheAlchemist :( It's so sad seeing his comments where he expects more great videos to be made only to die to cancer :(
We miss him

The vanilla dungeon should be accessable through caverns of time
Like all the other revamps
I don't see how bringing just the area back would make a difference, everything would die in seconds and it would be different thematically.
The way they are going the enviroment adjusts to the player so it would be essentially a timewalking dungeon. I doubt it would happen though for the simple reason the current developers are shit scared of going up against ten-year old content and potentially losing.
+Archvaldor's Warcraft Hacks Or they just dont have access to the content anymore and would have to re-create it = too much work

my first memories of wow are the wipes in dead mines during vanilla, it's where I met my best friend in wow

It's a matter of both nostalgia and allowing new players to see old content how it used to be which is a learning experience.

I started in WoD, so I never got to see the "old" WoW. Love seeing these evolution videos
Play private servers if you want to experience the old wow the reddit page wowservers is a good place to find out more information :)
Too bad they will shut every single one, so don't get too attached to any of those Private Servers.
Though, I preffer to not play on those.
lol they havent shut down any servers except WoWscape and i guess you can say "nost" though all blizzard did was send them a letter and they shit their pants >.>
You have servers like warmane who get over 30k players in the day playing on their realms and they have been around for YEARS! so the statement about blizzard shutting servers down is just plain wrong lol

These videos really bring the Nostalgia back from being 14 and playing my first time. Thanks for doing them.

I like the style you used to make this video, it's really well made.

When I saw these warcraft 1 footage, my mind just blew up realizing how the franchise evolved!
You've really out done yourself this time. Great job, Hayven!
You've really been pumping out these videos recently. It's always great to see them in my feed and the quality continues to improve. Thanks Hayven!
This video is so good man. you got such a pleasing voice! Please keep us coming and keep us updating about anything else :)
Gotta say, love the little Trivia boxes you spread out through the video, they're a really nice touch to an already awesome video! :)
Love the new video. Evolution ones are my favorite, because my favorite times in WoW were way back in the day.

That Warcraft 1 footage made me feel things dawg
THAT IS COOL, man. Best video you've ever done. Very good narration style and info. Keep up good work!
So since you did Deadmines which mainly alliance did until cataclysm, how about Ragefire Chasm since that's Horde's first dungeon.
Yeah, that is the plan :)
+Hayven Games I've known must of the stuff you say in your videos but I'm gonna sub and still watch em :)
Excellent video. Great work :)
I have fond memories of the deadmines, as it was my first dungeon in vanilla wow and it was a real event to run it back then.
Since then I only came back for nostalgic reasons.
I think alot of my fond memories are mainly to do with the challenge of this dungeon in vanilla. It's a shame that they hold little challenge now.
you are doing on one of the best warcraft related videos on you tube. well done man!
and now the defias sets is back in legion from unlocking as level outlaw rogue and need to be certain high level past 25, no need to spend your money anymore, I wish you can see it your self, rest in peace are lovable paladin

probably gonna play wow again just to see all the redone places
Your videos are only getting better and better, glad you've started narrating them too.

Can we figure out how to resurrect him? I still come back and watch these videos from time to time.
Awesome editing Hayven! I liked this video a lot :D
Ahh the memories this brings back! Great video once again!
P.S Hope you're feeling better and beat the shit out of that cancer, all the best man!
I like the trivia input. Great addition to your already great videos.
such a Legendary dungeon, the story of Vancleef's daughter witnessing us kill her father in the dungeon up until cataclysm, and then returning as a boss I think is amazing
I absolutey love this series, please keep it up! :)
Love this series! As I started in Wrath and kinda missed MoP entirely, I really enjoy these retrospectives!
Awesome video man! Keep up the good work.

Wish granted.
Out of all the videos i have on in the backround while i play wow .. Yours .. Are the only ones i will stop everything just so i don't miss any detail or content from your vidoes. :)

Very well done video. I enjoyed it immensely. I look forward to checking out more of your work, I ended up on this one through youtube randomness.
I love your videos, they're very informative! Thank you! :D

I know you never got to see this comment but we all loved you and you will live on in the Wow community
The voice acting from the RTS still cracks me up. Not sure which race is more ridiculous.
The last part of the Deadmines always reminded me of The Goonies.
Great video as always!! Your videos are very informative yet, funny aswell. I love them! Keep it up and beat cancers ass while your at it! Been subbed since 6k and im very glad i subbed indeed!
you can find the corpse of mr. smite in deadmines on the boat
So much nostalgia that it makes me wonder if anything will recapture my imagination like World of Warcraft did when it first launched...
Lmao, the way he pronounces "Rogue" but thanks for the video, the deadmines was my favorite dungeon before the revamp.
There was an optional boss in Ahn'Kahet who only spawned in the Heroic version. I don't remember his name though. But that was WotLK, not BC.
I had to look it up a bit to check, but Blood Guard Porung was the one I was talking about ;)
And honestly, I forgot about the WotLK one but now that you mention it I do remember a Bog Creaper boss in the Mushroom part that was probably Heroic only (my groups always skipped him though)
That mushroom boss was exactly the one I was talking about. But I only killed him once or twice during Wrath and usually skipped him. But I totally forgot about the blood guard.
Deadmines is still my favorite dungeon to this day
I like your videos because they bring me nostalgia, I'm going to subscribe to you.
yeah i liked the deadmines revamp, I just wish they did more changes.
Still missing you bud
by the way as a outlaw rogue you can get the defias brotherhood armor and it counts for every leather wearing class
Great video as always.
I remember back when I requested this and came true, still miss him tho.
+Hayven Games Thanks for finding out.
the defias set being removed upsets me bc i had almost the full scarlet monestary set but i think i got rid of it eventually. actually, there's no way i did, but i think i somehow lost 1 of the pieces
Great video! 👍🏼
I like the little trivia bits!
The EVOLUTION of Wailing Caverns or Shadowfang Keep?
Btw great video.
