I’m glad you were able to release this bonus footage. I’m still basking in the glow of such a great event. What a spectacular driveway to the property hey? Went on for miles. I was in the queue much further behind and it was a joy to be stuck in one of the best traffic jams ever! 😂
Still think with some nostalgia back, on my little Merc " box". The A170L CDI Lorinzer 125hp. Always quick and I could haul a lot in it. After 320.000km ( 2009)....I traded it in for a brand new Fiat 500. From Hero to zero...in no time😂
"Kadetts sold alongside Chevettes" Being a English bloke, when I first landed here (Perth, WA, March 1988) I saw many a car that I thought was either one or the other. It turned out I was wrong on both counts (it was the Holden Gemini). The things you learn etc.
Some great cars in the queue Ian. The one that took me back to my unexceptional years whilst on my quest to to find the ultimate in insignificance was the sight of the Comma pickup waiting behind your Corsa transport. It must be decades since I saw a Comma van with the inboard wheels, I never did try and find out why it was designed that way, maybe something to look up when it's raining so won't be too long now.
Who was to guess when you filmed the Applause it would be the most unexceptional winner. Great to see so many Foci or a group of Focus' still a great looking car today.
Was rooting for the MK1 Focuses, have had three and trying to find another good one, I am a big fan of them. Just a design that hasn’t aged and still brilliant To drive.
Interesting to see the Frontera. I owned its North American version, a 1991 Isuzu Rodeo with a 3.1L V6 sourced from GM. Bought it new in early '92, because being a manual, no one else wanted it. Those who passed it up don't know how big a bullet they dodged. It was hilariously unreliable (though that is not the adjective I would have used at the time). Maybe the British plant that assembled the Frontera had better quality control than the one in the US that built the Rodeo. Even the small sticker on one of the windows that proclaimed "proudly made in Indiana" was slapped on crooked, a harbinger of things to come.
Yes, I got a surprise at the Applause being a hatchback, I never knew that. I did very much like the beige Commer pick up parked behind you, I wonder what that's being powered by nowadays 🤔
I wouldn't call a Volga unexceptional. Ask anyone that lived in the Soviet Union at the time - if a Volga pulled in to your driveway, that was your queue to climb out the toilet window and escape into the woods.
Thinking back to the times of the serious fault that Focuses had back in the day (where they'd just lose all power and cut out for no apparent reason, often at speed) that ford kind of shrugged off for far too long, maybe a "Breakdown of Focuses"? :P
I'd not heard of that before - was it any particular models? I once drove a 2005 Mondeo diesel with a similar fault, where it would cut out if you put too much load on it. Hilarious when pulling out into a gap on a busy roundabout, or just after having overtaken a lorry on an uphill stretch of the A1.
@@scottishcarenthusiastsandtrain Mine was like that when I first got it. It drove a bit weird when the speedo wasn't working as well, I assume because the ECU was confused about what was happening. Cost less than £8 and took about 10 minutes to fix.
I'd have liked to have gone in my Mk1 Focus 1.6 Flight, but a friend bought the ticket so we went in his car. Regarding the question of it being a (future) classic car, there's one on the front cover of this month's Practical Classics magazine, and it's the same colour as mine.
A class with the guaranteed to leak tambour roof. Ex wife had one, was actually surprisingly good....... Well a lot better than what she replaced it with, megane convertible goldfish bowl
OK, clever Mr HubNut and clever HubNutters, I have a query. What would be a good Festival of the Unexceptional car, that would be reliable enough and not too high road tax, so I could daily drive it ( under 7000 miles a year) as my only car. No 2 seaters. Budget around £7500 max, perhaps a little more, if depreciation will be low.
Pre-2001 tax rules mean you'd have to go sub-1549cc for the cheaper road tax (still £200 a year). I'd probably go Japanese. A Mazda 323 1.5 would be ideal.
@@hubnotes - yeah, I do seem to remember seeing early 2000s stuff like Avantimes and such in the event reports. What an epic festival this is - I wish we had similar here in Sweden!
You answered a question that has been tormenting me for over a week now. What happens if I go next year in my 2021 Honda Jazz Hybrid? I now know there is a special area for newish cars so we don't pollute the unexceptional gene pool.
There is something immensely soothing about the rear end of a Mk1 Focus.
Absaloutly brilliant video Ian miss hubnut ❤👍 exceptional line up of classic cars brilliant
Nice queue. An early model HR-V is on my wishlist, I love that 80s style cubic styling.
That Daihatsu was really lovely.
A very interesting traffic jam. 😍
Plural of focus is foci. As an optometrist I really should have bought one.
🙂 A very nice way of spending 7 minutes and 54 seconds! Thank you!
Applause for anyone who noticed the applause won best in show👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What can I say but WOW, WHAT A LINE UP.🤩
Just fabulous.
Always love seeing these examples of our social mobility history.
Another fantastic Video of the UK's best car show from Mullet Man and the Pink Lady 🙂
Looks like a new T - Shirt on the way !!
Lovely, lovely, lovely. 😊
That's the best looking traffic jam I have seen in a while!
2:10 that BMW driver thought it was his moment to shine......and you walked straight past 😂😂😂
So nice. And quiet. And emmission free (for this moment). What a cool line of cars. Thanks for the bonus footage!

wow - that white Toledo was fantastic

Can't wait for my HubNut sticker . Molly my Renault Kangoo can't either. It's going to look awesome on her rear end. 🤣🥰😍
That Seat Toledo was unexpected and delightful

Nice bonus video 😎

I had 2 Peugeot 406 2.1TDs, which had very good engines, ride&handling then the 406 2.0 HDI all 110bhp&in Diablo Red.
Moments later you was pushing the alfa!! Great show.
Yes, I got a surprise at the Applause being a hatchback, I never knew that. I did very much like the beige Commer pick up parked behind you, I wonder what that's being powered by nowadays 🤔
Merc diesel. I sadly forget which one, but search for Commer Eileen and you might find it.
@@hubnotes Well that's two words I didn't expect to hear!! I certainly expected a petrol engine, thanks Ian
Opal cadet, holden gemini in Australia. You probably knew that Ian. Aussie Graham.
Love a HubNut walkabout even in a queue. That blue Cavalier 1.8 (LS I presume?) was tasty.
Some great cars there! I’d love to see a Peugeot 104 driven on the channel. That’d be a challenge for ya. They are so rare these days!
Loving the mullet hairdo Ian 😂
every year I just see complaints about about the queue in but i can't see anything can be done about it
It is tricky. It's a lot of cars, all trying to get through one entrance, all at once.
I wouldn't call a Volga unexceptional. Ask anyone that lived in the Soviet Union at the time - if a Volga pulled in to your driveway, that was your queue to climb out the toilet window and escape into the woods.

Vss sensor happened to me when I had mine, quite nerving when the Speedo dropped to 0 from 70mph.... And then come alive again.

A flock of Ford Focie. I hope that's a close spelling lol 😂
We should have gone in my wife’s mark one focus 1.6 ebony I keep telling her Its going to be a classic car and we should look after it

Marvellous!
Hi Ian. Is there any complete footage of your chat on stage with Steph and Matt. I’ve have a good look but can’t find any thus far.
Sadly, I don't think there is. Our quick chat ended up being 45 minutes...
@@hubnotes That’s such a shame. The bit you posted was fascinating. Have a lovely holiday 🙂
I missed it all too being on concours and prepping. Thankfully found this recording of the chat!

Blandness overload 🚗💥🚗💥🚗👍......!
A telescope of Focuses?
Once they let you in, did you all drive in together or was it constant stop/start? Only asking because my car doesn’t like too much stop and go
Queues did get pretty long later in the day. Gates open 9am and it pays to be early.

Does a Rover Streetwise share the same rear number plate shape as a 75/ZT - how did that happen?
Ooh, good question. It may well do - it'd be a clever move, no?
I can't believe you have been talking to other Talbot Express owners. I feel so cheated, was it me? 🤣
My heart wants that Alfa, my head wants the Bluebird estate.
We had to push the Alfa out of the way as it broke down...
Nice 😀
I feel like a number of these people have missed the point of Festival Of The *Unexceptional*
This was a mix of Unexceptional and folk for general parking.
another great 8 mins spent in the company of Ian and some pretty average cars that sum up my average life... thank god.
Oh - I have to ask: what is the age-minimum for the cars that are taking part in the event?
Roughly 1999 but they do let worth newer cars in.
@@hubnotes - yeah, I do seem to remember seeing early 2000s stuff like Avantimes and such in the event reports. What an epic festival this is - I wish we had similar here in Sweden!

AY UP MR HUBNUT

All very hubnut 🤓
Wonderful cars, from an era when cars had character. Everything is bland and soulless now
