Isamic while I agree with you that it works in the comics, the way they set it up in the show was a trainwreck. They get married with kids in the comics,so they set up the future newspaper to reflect that.
Then Eddie attempts to propose, finds out about the future, rescinds it, only for IRIS to say SCREW THE FUTURE.
Eddie dies to take out Thawne, and Iris finds out an ALTERNATE VERSION OF HER MARRIED AN ALTERNATE VERSION OF BARRY, so she's convinced they might be a thing.
Then Flashpoint resets things to comic continuity, only to reverse it two episodes later, with Barry STALKING HER the entire time it was happening.
Leaving him with NO WAY of knowing whether his feelings for her are from growing up with her, or something deeper.
Then Iris is destined to DIE, AND NOW THEY SAY "THE FUTURE CAN CHANGE."
BARRY on the other hand might have feelings for her in the beginning, yes, but every time he gets a chance with someone else, he sabotaged it.
Linda: I don't feel that way about you anymore, Iris...I'm happy. Oh wait, you like me? I like you.
*reverses time* DUMPS LINDA OUT OF NOWHERE, GOES AFTER IRIS WHO HASN'T DEVELOPED THE FEELINGS YET.

Arrow did just fine moving away from comic continuity, Flash is sticking too close for something that changed things so much in the beginning.
After Don is conceived they can go on to do what /who they like, but I refuse to accept any ship that deletes Bart from existence 😍

Nonsense techno babble, followed by annoying British television tropes, followed by annoying British mary sue Plot God bullshit, followed by fights that don't end in a clear winner meant not to piss off fans but ending up pissing off both cadres of fans, followed by more bullshit techno babble, followed by insipid speeches that wouldn't make their way onto the set of any Star Trek series (which is saying something), followed by no one from either series referencing the crossover casting the entire thing into likely non cannon status.
And I just saved you an hour or two of your life if this shit ever got green lit, which it won't for obvious studio company and executive related reasons even if it is a more plausible crossover than, say, MLP:FiM and fucking Halo.
