      Yes! The filmmakers for 2018 love to pat themselves on the back for how their film portrays “trauma” when Halloween H20 already did it and much better! Don’t hate H2018 but it’s a silly movie that isn’t aging well.

      There's no right way to portray trauma. It looks different for everyone. The F lol

      Totally agree that H20 feels more "real" and I feel like JLC is trying more even though she claims that movie was "just a paycheck" lol which is funny because to me 2018 feels like the just a paycheck performance

    It's good to hear your full thoughts, I was surprised at first at your Halloween franchise ranking. I feel with Halloween I kinda have to judge on a curve. As much as I love the franchise there are quite a few not good entries. Even the good sequels II, 4, H2O have flaws to them.
    I still feel the good far outweighs the bad in Halloween '18.

    Absolutely love and adore this movie. My favorite since the original & 81 sequel. The score is so badass. It’s amazing. The best Michael since the original and JLC kills it. Judy Greer redeems Karen in KILLS 100 percent. She was one of the best parts of that movie. Halloween is my favorite franchise after Scream so I can’t help but enjoy them all.

  • @Andothe1st

    I feel like Judy Greer's monotone performance might be a strange way of the film conveying that she - originally being a child psychologist - has gone through intense therapy and repeated this story to a dozen therapists a dozen times, as if she's almost sick of having to repeat the same traumatising story

    The curse of Michael Myers was the first horror movie I’d watched. I was 12 at my friends house and I remember being so scared i wouldn’t turn around. The couch at my friends house was infront of the back sliding door and it was like a lace curtain. I felt like MM was standing behind me. Then I saw the first Halloween and loved it so much. It was scary for me and it still have those vibes. I think this movie has some of it but there are things that do not work.

    Fun fact, the Jack-o-lantern was not CGI. They filmed a rotting Jack-o-lantern over the course of a week and added the candle light in post. But the actual Jack-o-lantern was all practical and then reversed with the candle light added later.

    Woah, the idea 50 minutes in about having Laurie crash the bus instead of Sartain...so true. I've always gone back and forth with the Blumhouse Halloween, but the more time passes I am pretty sure it won't be in my head canon

    I love this movie, yes this portrays Lauries trauma differently than she was in H20, but I just look at it as a completely different movie not connected to H20. I don't think the different ways Laurie is dealing with things in this movie is wrong because the way people handle traumatic events in their life is different, but it always makes sense to them. Maybe all my years of therapy just came out in this comment 🤷🏾‍♂️😂

      Dunno, seems a complete waste of her life to wait for Michael for 40 years, who then has zero interest in her. All she needed to do was move away and her life would have been sunshine and rainbows.
      It's not very satisfying to watch.

    I knew Eddie was still raw about the Thing Vicki’s BF said. Even though I agree. I see it both ways. Yes, she saw her dead friends and She got chased across a street and survived getting attacked. I guess 45 years ago that would have been considered Horrific.
    Meanwhile nowadays people are going into nightclubs and ends up texting goodbyes to their parents in a bathroom hiding out from a shooter who WILL FIND and kill them. There’s no plot armor to get that bathroom window open.
    some experiences are worse than others universally. But everyone’s trauma is their trauma.
    I also agree with Zack when he said, JLC Had a Idea and they just followed because she’s so headstrong and intimidating. I thought that whenever I saw interviews with everyone and JLC is stealing the show and DGG is squirming.
    Great discussion.

    The thing with Karen is I know that person. She’s my sister. They really got her right. She’s a counsellor, she blames her mother for all her issues etc. my sister would totally say I hate to say I told you so, I’m really glad you got to see that” so I honestly get her.

    2018 is a poor remake of H20. H20 did a far superior job with Laurie as a character and her trauma. Also, 2018 handles Laurie's trauma as if all of the sequels had happened, while asking us to ignore them. It makes no sense, it's very poorly written.

    Laurie's paranoia truly makes no sense in 2018 since he was captured and successfully kept in "jail" for 40 YEARS lol. If they kept Michael vanishing after the first movie, it would explain her mindset better. Also her 40 year plan for Michael is terrible ......just burn your house? Okay.....

    I've never been a big fan of the Halloween franchise. It's the franchise I enjoy the least (next to ANOES, Ft13th, Child's Play, and Scream). I don't like the original at all. I do enjoy some of the sequels. I prefer RZ's Halloween. I just prefer his style of filmmaking. I don't dislike these new movies, but what makes them enjoyable is the kills.
    Also, Eddie doesn't have to be sorry that I hate Jennifer. I only have to put up with her for one movie. Lol

    I understand Zack's issues with Halloween 2018, I kind of agree with many things he said.
    However I adore Halloween 2018 anyway, and am on Edward's side here :D
    It was my first Halloween theatre experience, and I celebrated that fact big time, so I am emotinally attached to the new trilogy.
    Besides that this movie (unlike many other big franchise sequles in the past) felt like a genuine product of passion and care.
    I know it's flawed, but what DGG and the crew nailed, they nailed big time!
    It's shot really well and has some incredible sequences, it has an epic score by Carpenter, it has very good casting of main protagnists, Myers portrayal is spectacular.
    I also love how they handle smaller/side characters, I loved and cared about all of them, the little ballet dancer boy, the baby sitter and her boyfriend, man, I felt really bad when they died...
    I even don't midn the weird off beat humor, peanutbutter on a cock included haha
    Another thing is some fans are waaaay over analysing this flick.
    They nitpick a lot, and in the same time they forgive the same bullshit stuff (or even worse) in the old sequels :)
    Great debate as always guys, thanks!

    I feel like Zach you’re undermining Laurie’s trauma. Everyone deals with their trauma differently. Laurie was a sheltered 17 year old who lost her only friends, then now forever haunted by finding their bodies, then was brutally attacked herself. She never got proper help to deal with her survivors guilt and what the attack has done to her emotionally. Her mental health slowly deteriorated throughout the 40 years because she never got proper help.
    Her story isn’t finished in 2018 because it’s still continuing. How she grows and deals and let’s go of Michael will be played out in Ends.

    • @meghan92385
      @meghan92385 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But, it is no one else's responsibility to help her. She has to want to help herself. She's had 40 years to get help and deal with her trauma and the movie gives the illusion that she hasn't even tried. She's let her trauma boil over onto her family and then expects them to understand and console her everytime she has a breakdown, when they need to have their own lives and take care of themselves. There comes a point where yeah, you kinda need to move on. Like he said, this didn't just happen to her. This affected the whole town.

    • @kirstenrox234
      @kirstenrox234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@meghan92385 I didn’t say it’s their responsibility. That’s why Karen doesn’t have a relationship with her. My point is that yes Michael’s attack affected the entire town, but everyone deals with trauma differently. She let hers consume her. It’s not unrealistic. While some move on others can’t. I mean look what it did to Tommy. Or even Dr Loomis on the original 5 movies.

    Did you guys ever see that movie Copycat? Would you say that Sigorney Weaver's trauma was valid? She just had a serial killer try to hang her and she ended up an agoraphobic. Just because Laurie was only chased and stalked, choked and assaulted by Michael; I mean, have you ever had a man in a mask kill your friends, stage them for you, slice your arm, chase you, try and stab you, break through a last to kill you then try and choke you to death all the while it's just this guy in a mask you have no idea about? People have been broken by less for the rest of their lives. 1 rape can destroy a person. I mean, it's just one rape, right? What's the big deal? I get that people love a triumphant "the victim pulled through and became president" success story but more often than not that's not how it works.

And no one is crying, babe, I tought your extreme example was hilariously out of place. • @Joker_JAK
      @Joker_JAK 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bluebox87 People (especially teenagers) have been seen to change their attitudes when faced with a serious situation. Him cheating and his attitude was BEFORE he knew about Michael. The whole situation with Michael put things into perspective for him and he changed his attitude. It literally happens in real life. Also, my example wasn't out of place at all. It was a perfect example. Not sure why you mentioned his suicide since that had absolutely nothing to do with point I was making. I used a real life example BECAUSE it's a real life example, but since you can't stop crying about it, "babe". I'll just say this: it's a movie. If you've known people with trauma it can go both ways. Laurie's behavior in H20 and 2018 are both valid and great. Me personally, seeing some messed up people with PTSD, I enjoyed 2018's portrayal of it more. It felt more grounded and not so Hollywood-ized. Oh wow, she wakes up screaming and closes her eyes to make him go away? Sorry, I'd rather have a paranoid recluse who told herself if she didn't become hardened and hone her grit shed die. And in H20 H2 happened too. She should be worse than 2018 lol The diner scene where she breaks down crying; if you've ever known someone with PTSD that hits hard.
