    Yes you can fix the blue-green tint of the Caddx SDR1 in settings. Also if you turn the sharpening down, it looks equally as detailed as the Micro Eagle. The Caddx SDR1 is now my preferred camera with the resolution of the Eagle and the HDR of the Predator but not so exaggerated.

    Doc you spew Soooo much valuable information that you make me glad for the Video speed setting in you tube ! I now have to rush to your channel and see what I can learn on PID tuning. Your choice of flight locations is inspiring. I am longing for the courage to get out of my open fields and hit a few select spots I have noticed. Thank you again for your contribution ! Seriously And Remember to floss kids !

Personally, I’m new to this, I’ve only been flying for a few months and you’re one of my top 3 sources for product review. And I love your prox flights. Please keep making videos, they’re greatly appreciated!! 🤙

    Those dodgy goggles are my daily driver. They are really comfortable and allow me to wear my prescription glasses inside. Reception is good, form factor is humongous. Other than that, I modified the power cord so I can stuff an old big 3s 4Ah battery in my pocket. Cheap and cheerful set of goggles.
    The dog charging the downed quad is hilarious. Thankfully the clueless dog and his owner were unharmed. These flying things are magnets for curious animals.

    Great video and I have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with. I'm used to editing footage from GoPro cameras but the new ones are too heavy so I've been looking into these smaller cams. First, when you're flying around at 14:00, which camera is that? I noticed you video on TH-cam is 720p (1280x720) and you're showing the actual size of the footage from the SDR1 at 18:00. I just got a Caddx SDR1 and I'm also impressed with it on my FPV monitor, but I'm not impressed once I upload it to TH-cam. Are you rendering the 720x480 footage from the SDR1 to 1280x720 before you upload to TH-cam? or something else? Thanks!!

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm using the crappy 640x480 footage from my DVR. Nothing special. I might enlarge it on the video before rendering the final video but that's all.

    • @rob215x
      @rob215x 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the quick reply! So the footage at 14:00 is originally from the 640x480 DVR? It seems like TH-cam likes video output at 1280x720 better than if you output it at 720x480.

    It's always nice to see, that the hobby gets more and more afordable everyday!!! And it's good to see, that you give it a try and test it, to underline, cheap products are good and worth the while (not perfect, but we all upgrade at one point in time anyway)
    While there is for quiet some time multiple professional racing leagues, we don't really see products, which are targeted for professionals. (The best of the best components) It still feels like, we are walking behind, using less quality components. We are still using analog video transmission (because it is cheap and light), even on the goggle side is not a "real professional" pair out... everything is more based towards hobbyist.
    Which is fine, but every hobbyist upgrades to more expensive stuff. It doesn't matter which hobby it is. If you really like your hobby, you spend more money, to bring your experience to the next level. Even if you are not a big racer or a social media freestyle guru.
    Thank you for your thoughts those components ;)

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude I'm with you 100000% and it's shocking that more people don't see it this way either. I dunno how the entire community just tolerates fatshark and nothing even remotely better or even comparable has come around. It's painful.

  • @luisrodrigues1630
    @luisrodrigues1630 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I loved this video primarily because I love good and cheap components. Im very happy you approve that 4in1 because many people say its crap and noisy and that's why I've never got one despite it being so cheap compared to anything with similar specs out there.
    For some reason I don't fancy them DYS motors, but I am very curious to see how the new RCX line of economy motors would compare. The RCX 2207's cost the same but look better quality. Please test them for us, sir.

  • @motormadness9975
    @motormadness9975 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey bob, when you say the esc's use recyled components, do you mean the ones that are rejected on smd pick and place machines or they are actually pulled off other non working products? cheers

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I mean they take old electronics, pull all the components off and reuse them. Literal recycling electronic waste. It's a huge industry in China. The processors on our FC's may have been from a toaster or refrigerator or something.

    • @motormadness9975
      @motormadness9975 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow i had no idea. I assumed that they were just using fakes with underrated specs. I wonder if passive components such as capacitors are recycled too, since they are pretty cheap as is.(tantulum caps probably recycled no doubt due to high cost).
      On another note, with the esc, did you get the inbuilt current sensor working, i have 2 racerstar versions of the esc and wondering if its worth setting up?

    what settings do you run on betaflight to gain tons of inverted time? when i put my drone on inverted is too short. my settings on betaflight is pt1 + stage 2 lowpass 150 + all notches off on pt1 + no dinamic filter and no antigravity... pid tuning stock

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol where? That has nothing to do with settings. It's just timing. Invert at the right time, let go of the sticks then revert at the right time...just experience.

    Have you tried the Runcam Micro Swift 3? I’d like to know your thoughts. I have dominator v3s and I’m using the micro Eagle right now bc I like the 16:9 format, but I’m having issues you mentioned with the predator and the cmos light handling as I go under trees.

      I used to use 16:9 cmaera for my Dom V3 too but I found that I greatly prefer 4:3 still. The new runcam Swift with the big lens is almost identical to the original one.

    I think you are the only person that hasn't had a unify die, besides me, but i've never used one. Did you bend that mmcx connector or did it come like that? If that dvr could save when you unplug the battery like the split, then i'd probably build it into my quads.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I told runcam they need to make it save all the time and then it'll sell well. I bent the mmcx wire. I know it's awful. Sorry.

    A video from you that I Like very much! :D Previously I "criticised" you for only using high grade stuff and I had the impression that you just didn't want to like the cheap (or cheapest) stuff. Of course more expensive stuff in general performs better but you can also have fun with for example the 7 dollar Racerstar motors. Love SDR1, only thing that sucked was the "fake" 16:9. I run at a 45-55 angle, and it was annoying how little I saw. Went to 4:3, and suddenly it was better. Camera Control works (on Radix at least), but only scrolling up. Unfortunately, sometimes saving settings causes it to reset...but there isn't much to change.

    Hey Kabab, I have some of the Hyperlite 2207 2522kv team edition motors, and whatever I run them on they all get hot. No matter whether I fly them, Idle them, connect them to butterflight and use the motors tab to run them, or use them on a completely different setup. I already tried using different motors on both setups and even though they are cheap, completely broken Racerstar motors, they don't even get warm vs the Hyperlites which get too hot to touch in 2 mins of "flight", they get hotter quicker on the bench. Do you know why this might be happening? (bad batch, winding coating problems, etc.)

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You likely have some weird vibration issues. And hot is a relative term. If it gets warm that's fine. It shouldn't be so hot that you can't grip the motor in hand after a flight. If it's 100deg out of course it'll get hotter. But anything less is fine.

    Hi kabab, I'm looking into upgrading my motors. I have a rooster with an all black scheme on it. As childish and dumb this sounds, I am looking at darker or silver colored motors. What's your thoughts on the hypetrain motors? Could you recommend other motors? Thank you!

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm generally not a fan of the 2306 size but the tmotor f40 pro (which is all the Hypetrain is) is known as a very good motor. I would sooner recommend the rcx 2207 2400kv motors however. They're also less than half the price and come in black.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would expect 2306 to be better but the best racers in the world prefer 2207. The taller stator has better throttle control and better high speed throttle management. 2306 is more efficient and better PID control. So it's really up to you.

    Hey Bob: Some of us in Northern climates have to use simulators such as Velocidrone to supplement our stick/flight times. If you ever get a chance to try the excellent Velocidrone, us fans of your build and flight styles would really appreciate your input on settings which most closely approximate your average builds with the Flosstyle frame. In particular, I would love to know what combo of predefined quad model and quad settings come closest. E.G., Mr Steele has put out his recommended settings which approximate his quad.

    fpv camera manufactures need to redesign that connector that sticks vertically out of the back of the camera. it's so dumb, and always gets in the way in tight builds. usually pushes against the flight controller and makes it hard to adjust. so much improvements can be done there

    FXT Viper Goggles in fact are a all-in-one nice solution for occasional fellow pilots like flying kids who came to fly with you at weekend and as demo thing for bystanders. can be transformed to small ground station monitor and have DVR built-in which is more than nice. Guys who require glasses told that thin glasses actually fits in Viper quite nice as well.
    DYS Samguk motors was the worst disappointment for me at this year. Very cheap and have a very nice performance when they are new. But crappy bearings and soft shaft turn using of these motors into a nightmare fast. Bearings became worn after 2 weeks of frequent flying. Deteriorating accelerates after first crashes. Falling upside down wit impact on shaft against hard surface will bend their thin shafts which actually happened with me: after a month of using Wei 2207 after Betaflight update during noise testing quad fell from 2 meter height upside down on laminated floor and Wei got a bent shaft. I threw those crap motors out without remorse.
    Airbot Titan v1 4-in-1 ESC seems cloned by a numerous manufacturers already. It is Ok, although must be used with caution. Using it without cooling at both sides ended with ESC fire which damaged other parts in quad in a bad way.
    Have an incoming Micro Eagle now and I'm eager to test it soon :) Want to see how good it is in sunset (yep, still have a free time for flying only at end of working days).

I'm particularly interested in the longevity of the DYS motors and the vtx component of the sakura FC.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The motors and FC are working fine. The 4in1 however went up in flames unfortunately. If you don't bang up the motors too much they'll hold up just fine. It was a pretty unusual crash that caused the 4in1 to light up...

    Your take on the SDR1 vs. the Micro Eagle roughly matches mine. One thing I noticed, though, is that I preferred the SDR1 with my HD3s but when I got my HDOs my opinion flipped. The SDR1 is actually *too* bright in the HDOs. This is on stock settings for both (except dropping sharpness a little on the Eagle). I need to play with settings a little, as I suspect some brightness tweaks will fix the issue with the SDR1.

    • @Kabab

      @hojen321 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Kabab. I'm a fan of your flight style, so I really appreciate your RECENT discussions on modern PID tuning. Going to try to emulate your build as close as possible, including the programming. As a fellow health professional, I'm guessing that some of your more practical approaches (PID tuning, hardware selection, etc) must partially come from your dentistry training and practice ?

    • @hojen321
      @hojen321 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      tried the 5143 props on the Hawk5, and didn't like the underpowered feeling. But tried these props again on this build (FlosStyle, DYS motors, cheap FC/vtx and cheap ESC), and now see why you like them. Thanks for the recommendation. Agree that you can really feel that extra resolution of stick movement with these lighter props. Are they still your favourite props for this specific build? Also, how far did you drop your Setpoint Weights for this build?

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ho Jen it's likely due to the low kv of the motors on that quad. I think they're 2300kv? These props are best on at least 2450kv up to 2600kv

    • @hojen321
      @hojen321 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      upped the min throttle % for this build to 6, from the default of 4.5. Also upped the default RC rates to somewhat match yours. WoW !. I feel what you mean by "butter..." My acro maneuvers still look amateurish and rough, but at least the quad doesn't feel like its going to crash or fall out of the sky, unless I REALLY screw up. Has so much more natural hang time...Thanks for all your suggestions, from the materials to the cheap motors, to the fine tuning. I owe you big time for all this fun....

      Kabab FPV i probably wasn't clear with my question, but my doubt is related with kV and how to pick "the right kV" - even though I understand that it's all preference. For example, 2300kV seems to be a common choice of kV for a lot of people.
      On the other hand, you decided to go with 2600kV, why? And what are the implications with choosing high kV?

      Haven't tried but would expect the SDR1 to perform well in low light too.
      They use the Sony starvis sensor advertised for ultra-low light use.

    • @Vaterraman
      @Vaterraman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is horrible in low light. Not counting noise that I have in my feed, of which I want to fix, night is VERY grainy. Lights seem to blind you out, at least in full BW mode, as my micro swift does okay transitioning to color when I fly around lights in the night. Lowering brightness makes a lighted night area flyable, but where there is no light at all, you can't see a thing

    The bell and shaft are more durable than you think kabab. Mine are 30 packs in with 2 big crashes and I have no run out on the shaft and the bells are still perfectly round

    I've noticed in many many motors I've used that curved magnets might be the weak point of a motor. The air gap it tighter throughout the whole magnet. But on a strait magnet the center of the magnet has a very small air gap. I just tried some new hawksky 1507's with curved magnets and they perform substantially worse in power and efficiency. I think that is due to the magnets being not as strong because a curved magnet in quite a bit smaller than the flat magnets.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The curve is just to get the magnets closer to the stator. It shouldn't do anything but increase power and efficiency

    I recently ordered a FlosStyle frame, looking forward to getting it on a new build, but I have a question. Has anybody tried using taller standoffs to accommodate a taller stack in this frame? I was thinking if I like the frame (I am sure I will) of upgrading some of my older builds to it, but some of them definitely won't fit the height. Since the standoff hardware looks somewhat specialized it would be a nice option to be able to buy taller ones separately.

    • @UnlimitedVertical
      @UnlimitedVertical 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      On second thought looking at it again maybe the standoffs themselves are not specialized (I was looking at the nuts below them)...so maybe I just need some taller m3 standoffs with 4 of them being 5mm taller than the other 4.

    • @UnlimitedVertical
      @UnlimitedVertical 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe instead I'll ask for opinions on where to buy decent quality bolts/standoffs.

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do my best to use nothing that's specialized. All my hardware is standard. 20mm and 15mm standoffs with flanged M3 locknuts.

    • @UnlimitedVertical
      @UnlimitedVertical 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would imagine that you are working with so many vendors that you don't end up buying your own separate hardware...so, if anyone else has a good suggestion for where to buy good quality frame hardware (standoffs/nuts/bolts/screws) I would appreciate it. I can always just order something from banggood, but you never know what you are really getting in terms of quality/hardness and I am getting tired of stripped heads.

    I've got that 4in1 ESC branded in the StackX package that I purchased as a stand alone unit and I have nothing but good things to say about it. No noise, i even removed my low ESR cap after mounting because I didn't notice it adding anything to the quality of the video. Didn't really have noise to begin with, but I had got a few caps in and thought i'd give 'em a try. The only thing I can say negative is I have not been able to make sense out of the sensor signal coming off the board. Have tried many settings in BF and haven't been able to get it to output valid numbers. Other than that, its a great board. $26 at time of purchase.

    Skyzone GS500 is the best box goggle IMHO. ~$125 diversity, good reception, DVR etc and supports 7-28V input. Just about the smallest and lightest too. I just put 20 packs through Commander V2's and sold them because I couldnt get them 100% focused. I now have HDO's and waiting for Rapidfire to test. But I have over 20 packs in the HDO's and I still like the GS500's better. HDO picture is very very good but for me box goggles put me in the cockpit while FS style, I feel like I'm looking at a monitor through binoculars. The picture is noticeably smaller and out in front of me. I still want to see Rapidfire for myself so Ill wait for my preorder to come in from Pyro and decide then but I'm 90% sure Ill be selling the HDO's too. I need SZ to update the GS500's with an OLED screen lol
    Have you tried adjusting the Micro Eagle WDR? Mine is fine on defaults but JB's video showed it can be adjusted.

    Even if that 4 in 1 is noisy you have ways to fix stop the noise going to fc and video. Individual esc, the most effective is cap on each is pain in the arse.

    Need parts advice/recommendation. This cheap build comes as you advertised: it really works. Problem is the consistency of the cheap parts: combo FC/VTX and ESC. Bought a pair of each, to build an IDENTICAL pair. The first build was flawless and straight forward: still my best performing drone. The second build gave me endless troubles, first with a defective ESC (one motor channel defective), then with a poor performing vtx. Remember, these are IDENTICAL builds. Motors are fine: sound terrible, but performs really well, even after some gross newbie crashes. So if you wanted do a comparable build using premium (or at least higher end) components with this flosstyle frame, what would be your recommended FC, VTX, AIO ESC combination?

    • @Kabab

      Just one quick question in the meantime. Are Spedix 4in1 ESCs OK, as far as you know?

      Have the Sakura FC with a Spedix ESC, on a malfunctioning third build. Think I'll swap out the Sakura FC first, with a better FC and dedicated VTx

    I've been flying the dys 2306 @2500 and have been blown away by their performance. I've also been interested in low light flying and have been pretty impressed with the foxeer night wolf using starlight. It's not bad in daylight either, however lacks a locking ring for the lens which I did have loosen on me on the 3rd flight. superglue put a stop to that.
    Anyways Great review, loving my cheap builds, makes me less afraid to fly hard and crash often.
    What are your feelings on flossing compared to using those plastic pics? Honestly I don't floss often enough, but do use those pic's often at my desk. Good enough?

      Floss picks are good because they get people to floss. You can do a better job with the actual string but doing any job is better than no job.

    Only time before that usb starts to fail on those fxt viper goggles. Maybe the makers should provided easily accessible solder pad to give the option to permanently fix your own cable to power the unit. Personally I'd like that on my fatsharks as I prefer to run a long cable rather than fix a lipo to my head.
