I do mostly buy more clasic items, they go better with my style but I do love to add some special ones. Great video Dayle! I definitelly stand behind: buy what makes you happy and don’t worry about what anybody else thinks! 🤗
Fabulous video. I think of all the people in the TH-cam luxury bag stratosphere you have inspired more people to buy what they love than anyone else has and we all love you for it. :)
I agree absolutely! The money is gone once you buy it! I enjoy putting together outfits to compliment my colorful bags. I have bought tan bags before and they are never used. You have taught me to buy what I love❤
I do agree with this, I remember the first time I scratched a bag I was gutted but then I thought if I have a bag for 10 years and it’s immaculate then I haven’t had much enjoyment out of it ❤
Dayle, your video was like a breath of fresh air in the luxury community! It's so refreshing to hear someone championing the joy and fun in fashion, rather than just sticking to the classics. I've always felt a bit guilty for gravitating towards the quirky and unique bags in my own collection, but your perspective really validated my choices. It's empowering to be reminded that our collections should reflect our personal joy and the stories we want to tell, not just potential investment returns. Thanks for encouraging us to embrace our individuality and find true value in what makes us smile. Can't wait to see what fun piece you'll introduce next!
What a great vid, great idea, & I completely agree! I’ve never considered the fact that when we buy anything else in our lives, do we think, I’m gonna get a lot of return if I sell this.” I love, love fun bags. I buy them for keeps. They bring me joy. They are an outlet for & accessory to my personality. You put into words things that I’ve felt but couldn’t articulate. And other ways of thinking about this in the broader context of what we spend our money on. Love this 😊
Couldn’t agree more. Worth and value are whatever they mean to each one of us. I use my bags - I look after them but I would hate to not dare use a bag in case it gets a scratch and then the resale value is affected. Doesn’t make sense to me to worry about that. I’ve never bought a bag with selling or resale value in mind. If it subsequently doesn’t work out for me or I evolve in my style then I will sell. My collection is timeless and more classic but not because they may hold value more - just because that’s what I love. Fab video love x
These are great points, Dayle, especially the one about being too worried to use our things. That one's gotten me lots of times, thinking about the environment I was going to or the weather. I think it's good to be aware of our mental health even when it's over something as frivolous as luxury goods. I have a good mix of practical and fun in my collection. Selling is never on my mind, I intend to keep my bags, use and enjoy them, and then pass them down to my daughters one day if they want them. 😊
Good food for thought, I think any bag that is used and loved and gives joy and makes me feel fancy/great when I use it is a fun bag! What I think is fascinating about your video is that you are encouraging others to value fun. When I think about that idea it's quite political with a small p. Imagine what could happen if we all start valuing fun more. 🤣💗
I was like that with my daughter's barbie collection my grandmother started. Now all boxes still sealed in boxes in my She Shed just hidden. So now, I open and display my Hot Rod box cars. Depending on time of year is what I pull out. My bags, another issue. Lol
Very interesting, you of course are the queen of the fun bags and I am finally starting to add some. You really changed my mind a long time ago when you said the money is gone once you pay. I too am trying to wear everything and am pausing shopping for a bit even though I don't have to. Trying to be more mindful as well. Very good points you made!
I think this video is a good reminder that I should keep.my hard earned money for luxury items I really want and not follow the trends. Thanks for a great video Dayle!
Super interesting conversation👏🏻 To be fair, I tend to be drawn to bags that would be considered boring or “classic”, so my risk profile (if there were such thing as a risk in buying fun bags) is on the lower end of the spectrum. But I absolutely agree with the points you made! Buying what you truly love, what brings you joy and works for your lifestyle and wardrobe is the least risky thing one could do - regardless of what the bag and it’s resale value looks like.
Hi Dayle, you always say the most logical points. It's so valid that we CHANGE. I used to buy my long awaited bags which I really love (pre internet days) and never thought bags were meant to be sold after they are used. I feel bags are bought to serve us for different occasions and that's why I love your bag diversity, be it classic or contemporary ❤ By the way, your intro look was lovely.
4 million percent agree!!!! I buy what I love and I use it. Period end. If I ever sell or give away I treat it as money gone was my opportunity cost and any extra is just that.
Hi Dayle! I loved this! I agree totally with you! Somehow just have to live life to the fullest and take joy from where you find it!! And if it's in bags, like we do, just go for it!!💕☺️🇨🇦
You are so right! I have never thought “your” way about my bags before. I tend to buy bags thinking about how much I will get back. In hindsight, that is so wrong, I am not enjoying the bags, I baby them just incase I do sell them. Thank you SO much for a different, much healthier perspective! I am going to really enjoy my bags and stop looking at each of them as Pound signs! Thanks lovely! And get well soon ❤❤❤❤
Great point for anyone how may be a bit nervous to use their pieces after purchasing but that's what they are meant for 😊😊 styling and wearing a new bag is so much fun that's the real joy i think ❤❤
I buy what I love and what makes me excited. I don’t care about resell value or if it’s classic or not. In fact I think it’s great that I love fun pieces because I can find them in excellent condition on the preloved market for half price. Great topic. I’ll check out the other TH-camrs video (I’m sorry I forgot her name but I’m sure it’s in your description box).
I agree! If you know your style, it’s the easiest way to get the wear out of your bags. I use my colorful bags like how some people use their neutrals.
Buy what you love and you are going to use and that’s it! Excellent point. We don’t purchase furniture thinking of making money … why are bags any different? Thank you for the video ❤
I watched Kat L's video and even commented, but my comment was deleted! Ha ha! I was hoping you'd do this video because I actually didn't agree with only being influenced to buy classics (maybe that's why my comment was deleted.) I say buy what you love, embrace your own personal style and not "influencers," and don't be afraid to not follow the masses. That's why I love your channel and am a subcriber of it and not too many other luxury channels though! Most of them are rather predictable, and this space is a lot more colorful--both literally and figuratively :) Love your channel, Dayle!
Deleted! 🤭 Well you must have made a compelling point 🤣 Thanks for all of the lovely comments here babe, what I’m learning is that we all buy for different reasons, I never realised it was so complicated- to me it’s like an adult treat not an investment that should be sensible.
Completely agree… I buy items to use and and I take care of them because they are valuable to me and don’t want to ruin them to buy another one.. anyway if you own it use it
I have a cream/ivory tweed Chanel bag and I admit SHE OWNS ME!!! She owns me big time!!! I love her so much and I can’t use her as much as I want not because I won’t be able to sell it but because if a drop of red wine or coffee gets on it, it won’t look the same! Even thinking about it makes me faint!!! 😅 😕
I have a black Chanel Diana bag that I lusted for ages. Safe to say I only got to wear it a few times cause it looks to posh for my daily life. I get to use my more trendy bags on the regular so idk if the bag owns me or not 😂
I guess one of the ways to reduce the risk of buying fun pieces is - once you get it, use it regularly as much as you can, in case/before your feelings for it change in future👜
I agree. I’m actually a bit disappointed in myself because the only 2 “luxury” bags I have are black and brown. Sadly (?), even among my contemporary bags, I have one black and one brown, and they are my most worn bags. I like the idea of fun bags, but I also like fun colored and patterned clothes, so sometimes the bag and clothes combo might be a bit much. Nevertheless, I am determined that if I ever spend the money on high end luxury again, it will only be for the fun bags I love looking at. My safe color bases are already covered!
That is a sound consideration. My initial thoughts were to buy "safe" classics for luxury bags, and buy fun contemporary. But on 2nd thought, since we spend so much on luxury, might as well buy the one that makes our heart sing
I commented on this video if I remember well. I’m very recalcitrant about buying IT bags. The reason is that, often times, they look very dated in 2-3 years and it’s a ton of money to sit on a shelf. I’m all about buying what I love, but I also really consider if said bag will past the test of time for me. For example, I love colors and I collect Hermès bags in less expected colors. I don’t care about the resell value because I think about my purchases truly and rarely sell anything. But I need fun in terms of long term bags not in term of short term! It needs to check many boxes before I buy something!
Oh lovely Dayle it saddens me to hear you are not well again. I truly hope you are feeling a lot better soon.🤗 You are not having a good run you poor thing. I don't know if I have any real "Dayle" fun bags in my collection. I'm probably boring compared to you any many others but I love my bags. I do have a few pops of colour. I don't buy my bags with the thought of how much am I likely to get back for them. I feel as though I would be too scared to use them if I did and they would just sit there. It was so good seeing your beautiful smiling face today. Just what I needed, a Dayle pick me up.😁 I am in bed struggling at the moment with so much pain in my spine, head and another health issue has arisen also that I had problems with some years ago. I must say I am sick of doctors and having surgeries. Like I always say though, I'm a tough old bird and I will get there in the end. I want to get out and really start enjoying my bags again. I have a birthday coming up and I want to be able to celebrate even in a small way, though I don't want to celebrate my age. 🤣 Take care lovely Dayle. Much love. Jenni. XX 💞💜
Use the bags, fun or classic! You’re right people need to detach their feelings about the past and future money of a bag. Be the vision of yourself you saw when you purchased the bag and then use it.
I enjoy carrying my fun bags more than I do my classic bags. My classic bags can be rather boring. I carry my classic bags when my outfit of the day is more quite luxury and my fun bags with my more colorful summer clothes. I don’t buy for resale I buy for using my luxury items. I bought a pair of Tiffany sunglasses about 8 years ago and I was so afraid I would scratch them that I only used them a few times and now they are out of style. I learned my lesson on that purchase.
i totallllllllly agree. People need to stop expecting or considering any sort of return. We dont do that for furniture or clothing or glassware. lets just buy and use it. And, if we have USED it, why are people expecting a return?
@@DaylesAddiction I know of someone who always wants to get her money back and more when she sells even contemporary bags. I dunno, annoys me no end. She DOES use them.
