Finding Franklin Bats: Protecting pekapeka long-tail bats in Franklin | Auckland Council

Join us on a journey to protect the endangered pekapeka (long-tailed bat) in Franklin! This project, funded by Auckland Council in collaboration with EcoQuest, mana whenua (local Māori authorities), and the community, aims to learn more about these fascinating creatures and their rural habitat.
Watch as we train volunteers in radio telemetry and track the bats using tiny transmitters. Discover how we're working alongside mana whenua to become kaitiaki (guardians) of their own rohe (tribal land).
