I like the "sick plugs" and my wife misses the "ooooOOOOOOOooooo's". She can imitate it perfectly and would use it on me whenever I said something I thought was clever, which in her estimate is never. The History Channel should give you your own show.

Thank you so much for this video and important history lesson. I just came back from a one week solo trip to NYC and am already planning a two week trip in September because I never even made it to Central Park, (among many other places I'd planned to visit)! I will definitely come to Seneca Village. :)

I'm so grateful for my parents both born into Jim crow who taught me actually American history. My parents banged black american history our achievements and lineage into my head. The amount of black history purposely erased to make it seem we didn't help litterally build an empire is sad. But we are resilient and we need to learn it.

IMPO, I think some people are really missing the point here.
This has absolutely nothing to do with a general displacement of people within just any community.
The primary targets were those of African ancestry & even the papers back in the day, wrote & had printed, some horrendous & shameful stories, regarding these innocent people living in Seneca Village.
This past displacement thrust upon persons of colour, was solely revolving around an underlying form of serious "systemic racism", specifically targeted @ & pertaining to people of African ancestry/people of colour.
This was certainly premeditated & carried out @ the time with absolute intent.
Many didn't want African-Americans to move up the corporate ladder & in fact, on the contrary, hence making things as hard as possible, for an African man to buy a house.
This is exactly why an African man couldn't buy land in Seneca Village unless he had enough money to do so.
Actually & funnily enough, much of NYC was built off the backbreaking work that African slaves carried out for over 400 years, to make many Caucasian/European men rich & with the free money they received, they had built for them, many super expensive architectural projects.
Many of these mansions & imposing buildings are still present for all to bear witness to, however, not too many know or are willing to fully accept & acknowledge, who were behind much of the funds created, to aid European men in having all of these buildings built.
History isn't always fully transparent or honest.
      Why?
Because in truth, the stories told, even the many fake ones/the false & misleading ones, were created to suit & fit in with the storytellers subjective narrative.
We must also remember, that @ that time, European men held most of the power & held most of the top jobs, so they were in the perfect position to tell a story in whichever way they saw fit, even if it was all lies and deception. And they did just that, as they knew very well, that they'd get away with whatever they were saying & doing.
Finally, I think that it's easy for many to show apathy, when the narrative isn't close to home/didn't affect their ancestors directly.

Just discovered this channel recently. Very funny and informative. From Dublin Ireland and regular traveler to NYC. Just a side note on the Irish potato famine, "The genocide of the Great Irish Famine is distinct in the fact that the British created the conditions of dire hopelessness, and desperate dependence on the potato crop through a series of sadistic, debasing, premeditated and barbarous Penal Laws, which deliberately and systematically stripped the Irish of even the least semblance of basic human freedom".... But we're all friends now, no big deal.

I know there is so much history over there , and it’s also the area I grew up in lol. But to see how it’s turning out now due to gentrification is heart breaking .
