What is the diffence between doing the L-step and simply moving the right foot to the right and then the left one? The end result seems to be the same.
your body moves back first outside range in a neutral 50/50 stance then takes a lateral position, rather than the other way around. Bringing in your feet together underneath your base raises your center of gravity as well and makes it easier to step in any direction.
The difference is that with the L- Step you don’t actually cover any ground, you’re basically in the same spot you were before, plus you took yourself out of your fighting stance by bringing your feet together.
