Appreciate the video and caht between you both. I think they key re: expectations, if this was at a small club that plies it's trade in LG1/2 then you don't get that expectation, fans are happy to attend and don't ask for much. I think sometimes people forget that we are a huge club with a storied history who should be middle of the road Championship club - our mean position in the ladder. Does that give us a divine right? Of course not. But certain standards should be upheld and the club have a philosophy on and off the pitch. Standards have slipped, and both on and off the pitch it's been very unprofessional. If we had both of those and clear direction we as fans would have patience and see what the plan and process is. The words, 'transition season' and 'luck' are lowering standards and settling for substandard levels. For a club like ours, we should never be talking about transition season - no clubs our size would ever say that - likes of Wolves, West Brom etc have been down the leagues and back and would never settle for second best. When Harry first took over in 2002, he brought in a brand new team and we had a winning mentality from the word go. I do think 'it's a new team' is one of those perennial excuses for teams that aren't that good. Plenty of teams at this level change their entire side year on year. It wouldn't matter who we signed (just look at the players we missed out on doing so well elsewhere and ex players performing so well after leaving us deemed 'not good enough'), there is something systematically wrong at the moment. Look at Scott Twine at MK and Michael Smith at Rotherham. One we missed out on, who if he was here would be in and out of the side or played out of position and be a shadow of what he is at MK, and Smith was never accepted but he has played week in week out at Rotherham and is scoring goals without threat of being dropped then put back in again. Also the owners painting over the cracks with concrete and cladding doesn't add to what is not a winning culture at the club. Substandard throughout all levels of the club and feel sorry for the manager who seems to want to bring that into things.

@@fortyyards1397 A lot of people are really fed up with League 1 aren't they. Lets face it its terrible. But we have got a club and that's the main thing. Some seem to think because ME is so wealthy he can just plow millions into a new ground and meteoric rise back to the promised land.

I agree with most of 40 yards comment. But the "glory days " under Harry and a succession of legally dubious owners resulted in the club bankrupt and nearly extinct. At least our present owners are being careful with money . I wonder if the team is over training they generally look tired , flat footed and lacking guile and concentration in the later stages of recent games.

His and yours are both good comments. I like what DC is trying to build and it shows in glimpses. I feel like he didn't get the players he wanted though. I'd like to think he can get a few more good ones in come January, I just hope by then we haven't been sucked into a relegation dogfight. I'm willing to give him a chance and call this a 'transition season' for want of a better word. But I want out of this league as much as anyone. We will get back to the upper echelons of English football one day. How do we get there, I don't know. How do we get there, I don't care. All I know is Pompeys on the way!

Yes of course, I agree we wouldn't want to see the financial turmoil return of course not. The promotion season in 2002/3 and the first few years in the Premiership we were run very well under Milan, then when Harry left and Milan sold up we were screwed. But we have a long storied tradition and history and shouldn't ever let our standards slip where we can say we are happy or settling for League 1 and no other club our size would. That's not DC's fault though, he seems to want to change the mindset into a winning culture. I don't think he was backed enough to bring in the players he really wanted and had to take risks instead. I think there is a fine line between being careful with money and not investing it intelligently. There is a middle ground. Being skint and spending unrealistically aren't the only two options. The owners may be careful but its at the detriment of our future at this moment. Case in point, if they were being shrewd, why woould they throw millions at tarting up the north stand when what we need is a brand new state of the art stand with boxes and non matchday event facilities. That would increase our revenue massively not to mention the new facilities.

@@fortyyards1397 Another top comment there mate. I'd say not going straight in for a brand new north stand is a case of being able maintaining a decent matchday attendance and revenue. The new north lower can still be used while a brand new larger upper section can be built behind it. The question is, do we want to climb the football ladder with a crumbling antiquated ground, or have the ground renovations' in place first? I would say to have the best chance of maintaining Championship football once achieved (and maybe pushing on toward the Prem) we need a bigger capacity and top notch facilities first.

@@mikey7278 Totally agree with this and see your point regarding north stand. I was hoping this was the idea a few years back, to get ourselves in position off the pitch and slow improvement every year. It just feels and I may be off the mark, that that progress seems to have gone out of the window and not seeing much longer term adjustments going on at the club to achieve that. Just feels we are treading water, but perhaps some of that is due to a whole year without fans. The whole off the pitch side needs overhauling. I thought with the Eisners and their business background and knowledge would mean they were the best people to sort out our matchday revenue, especially the fan experience and the ability to make more money through catering - whenever I try and usually give up on getting a half time cuppa, I always think they must be losing out on so much money. Just a wider product range, good drinks and more bars open would surely be a good start. Nothing has changed in that regard at all, it was better in the 80s and 90s! Pompey always seem very unprofessional and always have been and have seen no change. The shop is full of crap other than the shirts, there is hardly any merch available and what there is is second rate. You go to away games and see smaller clubs getting it right you are left wondering why we cannot. I did do a Business Degree but that doesnt make me an expert and even I can see so many ways we could generate more income.

@@fortyyards1397 Really valid points that I do agree with. I think we will get there, would have been nice to see more progress, but there are positives and I have a good feeling that the club is being looked after. Time will tell. If not for Covid and KJ the club could have been further along with its plans perhaps. Keep the faith! PUP!

wont get anything from Sunderland, forget this transition rubbish other teams change the squad without getting beat constantly. we are near bottom of the table will it need relegation to move forward? come on look at the facts and dont sugar coat failure.
