    I think that in addition to Optimus not selling as well as I would have expected, another difficulty comes in the fact that a lot of G1 Decepticons turn into things that Lego doesn't want to make (guns, fighter jets, etc.), so that would make Megatron and Starscream difficult to make. Of course, I'd be more than happy to get them as non-transforming models, although that would be pretty inconsistent. All in all though, I would love more Lego Transformers, and I really hope Optimus isn't a one and done deal.

    Crazy Optimus has been out for two years already. As an avid Lego and Transformers collector fan better grab one this year before I miss out like on the legendary Voltron set. If Lego were to move ahead with more 18+ TF sets the logical choice would be a transformable Megatron as fans and collectors would eat it up. Only problem other than his main aesthetic is what to do with him as he can't be presented as a realistic handgun or even a tank given Legos no war policies. Maybe a Cybertronian tank mode or vehicle though that probably won't go over well with long time fans who forever insist on him being a handgun. My personal picks would be either a Soundwave that turns into an IRL cassette play with his transformable cassette cons or if they wanted to be really ambition a Voltron scale Devastator consisting of 6 transformable construction vehicles. But the safest option would I guess to release Bumblebee.

    • @PenPlays
      @PenPlays  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Megatron has has some sci-fi tank designs that look nearly exact to G1 in Robot mode, so I know LEGO has options. They’ve done some fighter planes too, so Starscream isn’t out of the question either. They’d likely call his cannons “Starscream’s Blasters” or something to make it sound like it works. Also LEGO rules are very arbitrary when fan creations being turned into real products are involved. Lots to u pack regarding the possibilities, yet not all hope is lost

    As to whether prime has been selling well is unknown to me, since it's a big lego set after and those usually don't see many sales due to their prices.
    on another note, here's what i think think:
    Megatron: Obviously can't be a gun, but also may not be able to be a straight up tank either, i'm thinking making him some kind of "Drill-tank" may be the way to go with him.
    Bumblebee: Many of his various incarnations are already popular, my only worry is the volkswagen license and the shaping of the vehicle, i'm personally vouching for him to be made as a licensed vw beetle but i'm worried if the shaping can be done right with the pieces there are.
    Soundwave: He's already very simple, you move his arms back, fold his legs around the torso, tuck the head back, and there you have his alt mode. he also has the cassettes which may add a lot of play value but i'm not sure if they could all be done in the size it would be at, ravage and laserbeak probably but rumble and frenzy not so much. also i don't really know if he is popular enough to sell as a lego set, he maybe popular with Tf fans but idk if he'd sell well.
    Grimlock: I've never contemplated the possibility of a Grimlock for lego icons, i'm legit surprised i've never thought about that.

  • @Itransformit
    @Itransformit 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think there's definitely a market out there for Transformers as Lego, and for Lego robots that transform. They have already had a few of those, in the Ninjago theme. I think a problem is the scale. Optimus and many other robots have been quite big, which also raises the price a lot. If we could get robots in a smaller but yet detailed enough scale, the prices would be better and they would sell better too. In Sweden, Optimus cost about 150-190 dollars (with taxes included). That's a LOT. I was lucky and got it at secondary market for about 100 dollars. Even that was a lot for me. I think if they could produce deluxe Lego Transformers for 40 dollars, Voyagers for 60, and Leader for 80, it would sell decent enough. But since it's a licensing issue, it would of course cost more (most Star Wars sets seem to cost 20-30 dollars more than necessary). If we could keep it to around 50 dollars for deluxe, 70 dollars for voyager and 90 dollars for Leader class, it might still work, but higher than that is probably too much. And I realize dollars is not the best term to use here, because Americans seem to never include taxes in their prices, so it might not be the correct comparison, but I'm just trying to use a currency that many are accustomed with. I can only estimate prices based on how our Swedish system works, I can't say exact dollar prices when I don't know the US tax system. In Sweden, prices in stores and on websites are advertised with taxes included. I heard American stores show the prices without taxes and then they add tax at the cashier, which seems...fraudulent.

      @@PenPlays If that's the case I'm eating good but we NEED at least one Decepticon.
      Soundwave seems more likely and fits LEGO very well as the play feature and transformation G1 offers is a no brainer.

      We won’t sadly. Too detailed and LEGO sets can only get so big to manage that kind of detail anyways (we’d also have to pay like $2000 for every character at minimum)

    I think LEGO and Hasbro can make LEGO Transformers at a reasonable price, albeit at a simpler functionality and less detailed as the Icons Optimus Prime.

    • @PenPlays
      @PenPlays  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I worry whether they would be easy to recognize if they made them smaller. Especially if they’re meant to transform. Will be a lot harder

      @PenPlays While that is true, there's also LEGO Transformers MOCs by Studentscissors and Masterpiecebuilds that can both look familiar and function well while have a smaller piece count and at a migfig scale, too.

    I'm not personally a Transformer fan and maybe that affects my outlook on this, but to me the Optimus Prime set always felt like a one done with the chance of more 18+ Transformers sets being next to zero.

    My apologies to the fans, but in my opinion, WHO NEEDS THIS !@#$?! If there's one thing Lego doesn't need, it's ANOTHER licensed theme!

    • @PenPlays
      @PenPlays  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Without licensed themes, there are no non-licensed themes. Licensed themes bring in money, and helpful pieces that allow non-licensed themes to be developed, and perfected.
      Non-licensed themes are important too, because LEGO needs lines of product they don't have to rely on other brand for, in order to support their business and their partnerships.
      You can't have one without the other not matter which way you look at it.
      This isn't the 90's anymore, and the only reason why it was just non-licensed themes then was because they never considered it, until they were about to go bankrupt without them. Now we're here, the most successful they've ever been.
