- This week I have made my way to Royal Porthcawl to hopefully witness my Brother Paul Hendriksen qualify for the 151st Open Championship at Hoylakes Royal Liverpool.

Congrats to Paul for reaching the qualifying shame it wasn’t his day to get through to the open. Shame his putter let him down, has he tried a LAB putter? Changed my game and got my scores down.

Paul is one of my favorites on your channel. I have to admit it took me 3 times to finish this vlog. I have never seen such bad luck. Would he have qualified if every putt fell, who knows. I have never seen so many vicious lip outs. Chin up still will be cheering for y'all

Wow, a lot to unpack (as they say).Firstly, Paul was a super star in my eyes, keeping the bulk of his game under control while one element was so out of kilter with his standard and coming back with an improved second round. He really is a quality golfer. This video really highlighted for me the difficulty that a championship links course presents, the smallest error around the green can see your ball getting swept away off the green and worse still, into sand. So tough. A real eye opener.
Thank you for creating this for us and especially thank you to Paul for publicly sharing this difficult couple of rounds. Life is not all scrambles and PGA wins (unfortunately)
Well done Paul. Feel for you as we saw you try your hardest. A really tough course. Sometimes the putts just don’t drop. So many finished on the edge. Thanks for letting us share your experience.

What a privilege to be able to film this event. Kudos to Paul for getting to qualifying and giving it his all. You could see how much he was trying on every shot. Drove the ball so well but his putter was stone cold. Great SMS content 👏👏👏
The problem with all links golf, is that a one or two under, can so easily become a ten over. The key is putting that second shot on the right part of the green.
Heavens, quite exhausting just watching the qualifier - brutal greens! Loved Paul’s reaction at the end - classy player and top pro. Good to see Lester ‘helping’!

I lived in Porthcawl for 13 years, im back in Swansea now , so i know from experience just how tough those greens are , 1mm off line , short or too strong on pace and you can look like youve never been on a green before !

That's a tough course in the conditions but congratulations for getting there. There are many that aspire to it don't make it as far as you did. Best of luck next time and thanks for allowing us to share.
Well done to Paul (and team), he soldiered on didnt he. A good example in holding it together when things arent going your way. He was darned close on some of those putts though eh? They just didnt go his way on the day.

Much respect to Paul for getting to the finals, very few ever get that far. You battled like the champion you are, Paul. It was just a tough day reading the greens, and we all know what that is like. On the plus side, Paul’s balance and footwork in various lies and awkward positions was impeccable and he has one of the smoothest swings I’ve seen. So many people asking questions about Paul's putter or technique. From what I've seen of paul, he's about as professional and dedicated to the game as anyone and would have looked at all those things a thousand times over the years. Sometimes it just comes down to feel and confidence.
He left himself some tough putts and had a bad day on a top class course in top class company. I'm sure he is philosophical about it and won't make any knee-jerk reactions.

Another brilliant video Dan.... I was watching the score's on the R&a site had my fingers crossed for the Devon boys thought young jake burnagwas going to make it after the 1st round.... I can’t think of another channel providing such open and intimate access to the travails of being a professional golfer. Your sibling relationship and our extended exposure to it through your vlogs, really adds a unique touch of realism to seeing PGA Pros in action.

What a gent Paul is, even when losing he holds himself so well. Couldn't believe how well he played tee to green, just putting letting him down. I think we can all relate to those rounds and count how many shots should've dropped or those unlucky bounces. Fingers crossed for next year

I was at Royal Cinque Ports that day watching FQ, but following Paul and James progress via the Open app during the day. Gutted for both of them but having seen the vlog, I can see where the majority of Paul’s struggles came from! 🥴….. flat stick woes.
They both did brilliantly to reach FQ that said and hopefully they’ll both have another pop in ‘24. Nicely captured Dan and well done all for putting this together 👌
Thanks for the great stuff you present us again and again. I think that was one of these "used days" around the greens Paul had. But he never gave up and tried to score as well as possible. Maybe he should trust his normal putter instead of taking one he normally not sticks. But some such a change brings the success, nobody knows before. Paul will try it hope again and the day will come (soon!) a DHG player completes at their open an finishes in top 10....
Respect to Paul for hanging in there when the putting just wasn't there. On a bright note, after 3 days hanging at even par for the Women's US Open, Charley Hull caught fire on the final round to card the low round of the day and get to a T2 finish! Paul, you can do this. You're an amazing golfer who just didn't have all elements hitting on the same day. Next year!

What a tough place to play, think Paul handled himself well given the lack of good fortune with horrific lip outs and chip shots rolling yards back towards him, I’d have been in tatters. It shows you how good elite golfers like Paul need to be to qualify. Good very interesting video showing the reality of the competition at the top.
Fair play for paul coming on at the end. Id have told my brother to take a running jump!

What this really shows is the person that Paul is, putting is going south and he keeps grinding and staying calm. Not everyone has that attitude.

I really felt for Paul, he looked like he wasn’t too bad tee to green but couldn’t buy a putt. Still chin up Paul you had a great result at PGA so keep it going and onto the next one
Was lucky enough to follow James Ruth who played so well and was in the mix to qualify but sadly dropped a few shots when the weather turned. Shot of the day was on 17 out of a fairway bunker with a 5 iron which ended up on the green in 2 on a par 5. Great to see quality players up close.
