I'm building my own. For drawers, I bought a dresser at Ikea. This is my center piece that I am building around. It is then a lot easier. One thing they didn't mention, to make the closet look nicer, caulking is very important.
@@nczioox1116 That can be an issue with pre-build then. But you can have a look at either smaller dressers, or buy some the IKEA closet systems. They have some narrow baskets for example.
I opted to use solid pine. I wanted to fill all screw hole and prime and paint everything so I didn’t want melamine and I wanted stronger shelves that won’t have as much tendency to sag so that ruled out mdf for me. If you use solid wood make sure you look to find the straightest knot free boards you can. That can be pretty difficult depending on what your store has in stock.
Just wood alone, I would estimate maybe $100. Paint would be around $40. If you need to prime like I do, then the primer for MDF is about $75 Screws, another $20. Rod and brackets are not that expensive. I haven't bought mine yet, so I do not want to tell you the wrong pricing.
I am in the process of building this right now. Almost exactly like in the video with a similar sized closet. I spent about $250 for all lumber, hardware, primer, and paint at Lowe’s.
I was charged $13000 CAD which I can't afford. I really need this but not sure I can do it. Finding a stud is almost impossible for me even with a stud finder, it beeps but no stud after drilling. How will I then do this? 😮
I don't know what Canadian building codes require on stud centers but south of the border it's 16". If you measure from a corner 16" you might get close to finding a stud. Another way is driving a small diameter nail in a spot where you think one is until you hit one. Also tapping on the wall and listening to the sound difference.@@oluwaseyiatolagbe610
It’s technically a 1” but 1” in wood means 3/4 or 0.75” in a measuring tape. There is a reason for this but just remember that for when making a shelving
@@oaktutor1154thanks for the explanation, because I was wondering in @0:56 why he said deduct 1-1/2” because I assumed it should be 2” since the wood thickness is 1”.
they make it look so easy

@c-hd5696 what if the closet is wide but the opening is small so theres 2-3 fit on either side thats hidden?

I had my hubby do this in 1984!
SUGGESTION...and dont forget to shelac the pine boards b4 painting as tannins will leak through and cause yellowing.
What about the baseboards how did you account for those.
I would honestly remove them. It makes the job so much easier.
What electronic tape measure is he using?
Bosch laser.
Great question!
Nice Work👍👌🙌!
Brilliant omg.
What type of wood should I get?
I'm using Melamine for the verticals and MDF for the shelves.
Pine

How much does the materials cost?

If this is your first time, buy about 25% more materials than you need in case you mess up.

can we get the correct sizes cut at the homedepot?
i think you go with measurement and ask them to cut size they do, you have to pay for leftover plank from their standard size
You can, but honestly, all 4 HD near my house do not cut anymore....
What if the organizer and the wall are not square?
What type and thickness wood was used for this
3/4”

How many inches in height are the side panels?
You have 5 12x12" shelves in the middle, so that's 60" high, plus another 12" above that is where the top panel lies, so that's 72" roughly. 6'
Thank you very much! I wasn’t sure I would get an answer, I was pleasantly surprised 😊.
Don’t forget to spend $600 on a laser to get exact measurements lol
Nah those bosch ones are like $60 and you can use a $10 tape measure since all its doing is taking dimensions
Got the Bosch Blaze for $55
Bought a cignman for $150 off Amazon and it’s been amazing! Same laser that had 3 axis was like $400 this was definitely a deal.
i’d lose it from the first shelf
:)
